How do I show file extension in aperture ?

Is there a way ?
Thanks to all

What she said!
Even sticking to the car metaphor:  what if you actually want to look out through the entire windscreen and decide to clean it from edge to edge?  Where are the controls for that?  Why would a very expensive machine come with a giant viewing window and provide tools that clean 3/4 of it and no more?
OK -- trying to help manofdogz:  Aperture is big, complex, and present difficulties to the beginner.  As with any "well-stocked workshop with hundreds of tools", it takes weeks (if not years) to turn those tools into skills.  Imho, the learning curve is shallow -- but getting to where you can learn how to use Aperture requires either fording a moat or climbing a wall or both.  You have to get your feet wet and skin your palms -- but once you get over those initial difficulties, the walk throughout Aperture-land can be done in sneakers and a lightweight jacket.

  • How do I show file extensions

    Just upgraded.  My last iPhoto import left off the file extensions.  I would like to view them as part of the title, not in the info pane.

    Where were these photos imported from?
    iPhoto doesn't display the file extension of the photos but you can select one of the thumbnails and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original  menu option
    and be taken to the folder inside the library that contains the file and that file will be selected.  You'll be able to check the file extension that way unless it never had one in the first place.

  • Import images grid does not show file extension

    I use Aperture in a "referenced" mode. At times, I have jpeg files in the same folder as my nef files (which had already been imported into Aperture). The import images list does not have (or I cannot find out how to display) the file name that shows the file extension too. Of the data available, i can scroll to the right and see a lot of different metadata in the list, but not the file extension.
    Does anyone know how to have the file extension displayed in the list that is shown when trying to import?
    thanks

    Aperture can display just about anything you would like to display. The key is putting the correct field into the metadata set for that is being used for the browser or viewer that is active (you can have two ready to go and switch between them or none with a shortcut key)
    This should tell you everything you ever didn't want to know

  • How can you hide file extensions?

    Hello i have a ton of pictures in seperate folders with the extensions .JPEG and i really hate that it shows. I have tried going to the finder and unchecking the show all file extensions, but it does not fix that issue. I also saw this in another topic but i haven't been able to understand it.
    Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and paste in the following:
    tell application "Finder"
    set extension hidden of every file of entire contents of (selection as alias) to true
    end tell
    Select the folder enclosing the documents in the Finder, and press the Run button in the Script Editor. If they are enclosed by multiple folders or are at different levels in the folder structure, select the first folder which encloses all the documents.
    (22397)
    I don't know if it still works. Im also not sure where i put the folder. I have tried programs but they take away the extension and make the picture not open up then.
    Please if you can help

    yes i found it, but this is how i enter it i dont think its right:
    tell application "Finder"
    set extension hidden of every file of entire contents of (selection as alias) to true
    end tell
    /Users....
    then i get Syntax error "/"

  • How to set default file extension in the FileChooser?

    We are trying to use the FileChooser but for some reason, it doesn't have any file extensions in the drop down menu (like in windows). Does anyone know how to put this in?
    Also, how do we set the file name for the saving file, rather than typing the name in ourself?
    Also, how do we position the file chooser dialog in the middle of the screen? Right now, it's in the top left corner of the screen.
    Here's our piece of code, used for saving file.
    FileChooser fileChooser = new FileChooser();
            File file = fileChooser.showSaveDialog(stage);
            /*User might clicked on the cancel button*/
            if (file != null) {
                try {
                    Writer output = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(file));
                    output.write(text);
                    output.close();
                } catch (IOException ex) {
                    logger.error("save file error", ex);
            }Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • How do I delete file extensions on files in sub folders?

    I want to delete all file extensions on the files I have in several sub folders.
    If I highlight the files themselves in a folder and run "Get Selected Finder Items", then "Replace Text in Finder Item Names", then it works. However, how can I have Automator choose ALL files in ALL sub folders of a folder and then do it's magic on all those files at once?
    Thanks.

    Does the Notebook software accept aliases? If so, you could rename aliases instead of the main file, so that the original extensions are preserved.
    For your original question, you can use an action to get the folder contents, and adding a filter action will just give you the file names - for example:
    1) *Get Selected Finder Items*
    2) *Get Folder Contents* (repeat for each subfolder found)
    3) *Filter Finder Items* -- remove items that are folders
    4) *Replace Text in Finder Item Names*

  • How to create encrypted File Extension??

    hi Folks
    i'd ilke to ask how to create file extension and how encrypt this extension??
    to make my question clear suppose we develop a word proceesing Application i would like this Application produce let say ".kad" when saving it and how to make this extension ".kad" encrypted meaning that we couldn't open the file unless my Application is existing.
    can anyone help me or give a tip to start of the way!!!!!!!!
    thnx

    Hi eng_kadry,
    if a little confusion is enough for you can use just a binary format, i.e. do not store readable text, but compacted binary information.
    If you really need to encrypt your data have a look at JCE (Java Crypto Extension) which provides various encryption algorithms.
    Note: You can't encrypt a file extension you encrypt the file. You can't prevent anybody opening the file with a hex-editor, but if you use binary or a really encrypted format he/she won't be able to make any sense out of it.
    Another note: Be aware that your program will always contain everything it needs to decrypt the files, so if anybody goes through the pain of decompiling your program he/she will be able to use the files and you can't prevent decompilation

  • How to remove a file extension?

    I know how to change the program that is associated with a file extension by navigating to a given file with such an extension in finder, clicking on command+i and changing the "open with" program, but I don't think that's going to fix this particular problem.
    You see somehow TextMate has associated itself with files that don't have any extension at all, so when I click on them in finder, even if the file is binary it comes up in TextMate. This is OK, if it where a script, but not ideal for binary files. What I would like to do is either remove the TextMate association altogether or fix it so that it just executes the file rather than try to open it with TextMate.
    Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks for the suggestion!
    However I tried it, but no luck
    Whenever I launch the application TextMate is still associated with it. In finder if I control+click and choose "open with" only TextMate and Other are listed. Under Other, I'm not sure what application I would choose such that a file without an extension would be executed as if I typed /path/to/app in a shell assuming app was an executable file.

  • How to create new file extension and associate an application with it?

    Hi,
    I want to create a new file extension named ".emsof" and
    associate any text editor with it like notepad++ in windows 8.1
    Moreover all of these files should be searched by having filter of "*.emsof" like any other ordinary files.
    Please guide me about hoe to do it?
    Thanks.

    Hi BurrWalnut,
    Thanks for the help.
    Will this command also allow me create and save file with .emsof extension and  to filter files through .emsof extension (Like we can filter through .doc or .txt extension)???
    1. I don’t know what you mean by ‘filter’. In your initial post you mentioned searching, if that’s what you mean, you can search for any extension.
    2. An easy to understand example of the assoc and ftype commands is a .txt file, which we all use in Notepad:
    Typing assoc .txt in a cmd prompt will return txtfile (the file type).
    Typing ftype txtfile will return %SystemRoot%\System32\notepad.exe %1 (the full path of the program and %1 representing a passed parameter).
    Alternatively, look in the registry hive HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT for .txt and further down for txtfile.
    3. If you add an entry that is later unwanted, you can easily delete it by typing assoc .emsof= and pressing Enter. Then delete the filetype by typing ftype myext= and pressing Enter. You can, of course, just delete the entries in the registry (nor recommended
    for beginners).
    4. Test it out now but be aware not to use extensions or filetypes that currently exist.
    5. Display all extensions and their associated file types by firstly copying the following 4 lines:
    assoc >"%userprofile%\desktop\assoc.txt
    start notepad "%userprofile%\desktop\assoc.txt
    exit
    cls
    Press the Windows Logo key+X (or right-click or press and hold the bottom left corner) and choose Command Prompt/Windows PowerShell (Admin). Using the mouse right-click, paste the 4 copied lines to the Command Prompt window. A .txt file is created on the Desktop
    and Notepad will open and display the list. The list represents the registry keys located in the merged HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. In the left pane, look for the extension, for example .txt. The (Default) field in the right pane contains the file type, e.g. txtfile.
    6. Now display all file types and their associated programs by substituting the above 4 lines with these:
    ftype >"%userprofile%\desktop\ftype.txt
    start notepad "%userprofile%\desktop\ftype.txt
    exit
    cls
    Another .txt file is created on the Desktop and Notepad will open and display it. This list represents the registry keys in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT further down beyond the extensions. Look for the file type, for example txtfile, then click or tap shell\open\command.
    In the right pane, the (Default) field shows the full path of the program that opens it, e.g. notepad.
    7. NOTE. In operation, any keys in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes (current user) take precedence over those in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes (all users) and both keys appear as the merged HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Any changes should be made to HKCU and
    HKLM. The HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT keys are intended to be read from, not written to.

  • How to associate other file extension with text/xml

    Hi,
    I found that I could only load files into XDB via ftp when they had the file extension ".xml". Why is this?
    Thanks
    Pete

    The information as to which file extensions are associated with which mime-types is stored in the xdbconfig.file. You can add an entry using the following code
    connect system/oracle as sysdba
    call dbms_xdb.cfg_update
           updatexml
             dbms_xdb.cfg_get(),
             '/xdbconfig/sysconfig/protocolconfig/common/extension-mappings/mime-mappings',
             xmlelement
               "mime-mappings",
               xmlconcat
                 extract
                   dbms_xdb.cfg_get(),
                   '/xdbconfig/sysconfig/protocolconfig/common/extension-mappings/mime-mappings/mime-mapping'
                 xmltype
                   '<mime-mapping xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb/xdbconfig.xsd">
                <extension>rdf</extension>
                <mime-type>text/xml</mime-type>
                </mime-mapping>'
    commit
    call dbms_xdb.cfg_refresh()
    set long 1000000
    set pagesize 0
    select dbms_xdb.cfg_get() from dual

  • How to resolve same file extensions conflict using LabVIEW ?

    All,
    Let's say I have two files withe the same file extension. One of the files opens only with one particular program whereas another file opens only with another program.
    So I was wondering, by using LabVIEW , if there is a way to tell (programatically) to which program are each of these files assigned to.
    I am not quite sure if there is something that can be done by using WINAPI or .NET?
    Please help
    Thank you

    The only way you are going to be able to do that is if there is something within the file itself that gives an indication what program might have saved it.
    For example, in the header for an .xls file, there is probably something that describes it as Microsoft Excel, perhaps even the version of Excel, that was put there when Excel saved it.  But if you have another program save the file, let's say notepad was used and the user picked .xls as the file extension, then there is nothing that will describe that Notepad saved it.
    But all of this is basically what ToeCutter was already telling you.
    If you need more help, then you will have to provide more information such as what types of files and what programs were used that got their file extensions mixed up.

  • How can I show files in table from BlobDomain(image,Doc,pdf etc) with icons

    Hi,
    i need to display collection of files in a table, the files have been saved as BlobDomain. Db contains different types of files (like jpg,pdf,doc etc), all files should come inside the table regardless of its types,if the file type is image then the file column will show thumb icon of the same. otherwise some other icon should come.

    Vipin,
    We need more information...
    What version of JDeveloper/ADF?
    How do you tell what the file type is - do you store it in another column or something?
    What technologies are you using as the view layer (ADF Faces, Trinidad, Swing, etc)?
    What exactly does "all files should come inside the table" mean - I assume you want to use a table (in whatever view technology you are using) to display the file names (I guess) and further if the file type is an image type, you want to display a thumbnail? If you are using JSF/JSP as your view technology - you can easily write a servlet to stream the image files and use an image component (again in whatever view technology you are using) to display the images (search the forum for an example).
    But, in general, you need to spend a few minutes to phrase a proper question - much like the respondents on this forum will take a few minutes to provide a helpful answer (when enough information is given in the question).
    Best,
    john
