I have to send some scanned documents to my work and the file is 17.6 mb. The maill service they use only accepts 9mb or smaller, How do I shrink it down?

Hold down Command and click on each in turn, then choose getInfo from the File menu. It will tell you the attributes of the "stuff" selected, in this case a group of files.
I may have spoken too quickly -- it does the individual files under 10.6.8

Open the file in Preview and select "Save as..." from the File menu. Select "Reduce File Size" from the Quartz Filter menu and save. The size probably won't be reduced enough, though. You may have to split the file into several parts and mail them separately. Or upload it to a web server and send the link.

Firefox doesn't display PDF files all by itself, it uses your PDF reader program which is also what handles the printing of that file type.
As far as the large printed font from Firefox, open File > Page Setup and see what the '''Scale''' is set to. 100% is usually the best setting, but you might need to use a smaller setting.

That's a bit excessive. The website http://convert.neevia.com/pdfcompress/ can compress files up to 5 MB in size. You may want to print to PDF single smaller pages, or print the document and scan it one page at a time to PDF, and then use the PDF compress tools to shrink it further.

By "Adobe file" you mean a PDF?
Acrobat can reduce (optimize) PDF file sizes, but only to a certain degree - depending on its contents.
But far better than sending PDFs or other e-documents as email attachments is using a file sharing service (like Acrobat.com Workspaces, Dropbox, Google Drive, ...), then share the file and send the download link by email.

How to NOT shrink on nUp pageHandling

You are making the printing process a bit difficult. You can simply go the the Adobe PDF printer properties and select to print 2-up. In Acrobat, there is an additional item in the print menu, but that shrinks the pages a bit further than using the 2-up process. Unfortunately, the 2-up process appears to put a border around the pages, though that is easy to remove with the object touchup tool. There is a slight reduction in size, but not bad. I know of no other way to do it with Acrobat. I did try one thing that might work for you. I printed with 2-up (under the printer properties) and also when into the advanced menu on the first tab and selected scaling to be 102%. That just about did the job of using the full size. The main thing that may happen there is that you will drop off some info at the sides if your original goes all the way to the edge of the A4 sheet.
Just as a relative figure of merit, I made measurements on the screen for the 2-up versions. The one on the print menu put 0.75 cm on each side, .35 cm between, with 17.7 cm wide print areas. The one in the properties menu gave 0.2 cm on each side, 0.4 cm between and 18.2 cm print areas. My measurements appear to differ by 5mm total, but that gives you a rough idea. The 2-up from the properties screen sized things the best, but I had to deal with the border in that case. With the print menu option you have a choice about the borders -- could not find an option for the properties menu selection. A scale of 102 % should be about right to use the full width, but you will likely lose a bit of the info in that 0.2 cm portion about your print. The print menu option scaling did not seem to work, but seems to autoscale.
I think this is about as close as you will come with Acrobat. If you have clear space around the outer edge of your document, then this 2-up property with scaling should do the job. I am not sure what scaling would work best for A4 to A5, I was using letter to letter. Guess you will have to play around a bit. If you have a lot, the border is going to be a pain.

I was delighted when I signed up for Pages. Clunky yes, but it worked. I've been a graphic designer on a Mac for 25 plus years and have logged too many horror stories of "upgrade" wars which cost me massive lost time, data and money forcibly extracted just so I could finish a project.
When I first used Pages in April of 2012? or there about, I was able to open Word documents exported to .pdf format, emailed to me, which I then dragged into Pages. I could make the changes I needed to make, export as a .pdf, return it back to my client which they could then edit on whatever it was they were using. I'm not a neophyte with this. I've had Original Photoshop as a stand alone, Quark (which locked users out 6 months after I purchased it.) Quark again, Freehand, Pagemaker, Illustrator, Photoshop again, Creative Suite for several upgrades, Acrobat Pro. 2 years ago I lost 6 years of Quicken data and had to and "upgrade" start over. This last go around I had to "upgrade" my Apple ID - yes I had 2 on purpose, lost my Pandora One and my ability to get into the Tulsa County Library website.
At this point, I'm retired and feel like what I've paid for in the past should WORK today. I have a 100+ page cookbook in Quark which I was able to export as a .pdf, that I've lost the tags too, Easier to start over. I have artwork that is hundreds of megs in Photoshop. Not the least bit interested in anybody's "cloud".
Thanks for letting me vent. I'm determined to keep my equipment and software up to date so I can enjoy the skills I've acquired, but I completely cringe at Apple's antics. I truly hate it when I have to respond to some new "tip" or product offer. BooHiss. Happy Turkey Day. Pages is a "turkey" program.

The environment is oracle 10gas + 10gdb.
On a specific event, a PL/SQL stored procedure is called to do some processing and at the end of the processing to generate report which has to be sent to the printer (and optionally previewed by the user).
Can anyone assist me with this?

One 'simple' way is by using the DBMS_SCHEDULER db package and the procedure CREATE_JOB(....) using as job_type the value 'EXECUTABLE'...
Read for further info in 'PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference'.
If you have access to OEM ... you can configure this there using wizard.....
Other way is to use the External Procedure call capabiblity of Oracle DB Server...:

I can't read an online ebook. asked me to how i wanted to open a pdf?

lets start from the beginning. i just recently (yesterday actually) erased everything from my macbook pro in order to install adobe creative suite. i reinstalled tiger on my computer. i'm a college student and i have been accessing a private online library for research. today i went to the same site to open an ebook and it opened up finder and asked me how i wanted to open the pdf. i hit 'cancel' and then the space where the book is usually opened just kept trying to load. it's never done this before. the information always pops up and i've never had to open any pdf files. what caused my mac to not open files properly and HOW CAN I FIX THIS?

How do I install a Adobe pdf printer?

Upgrade from Acrobat Pro X to Pro XI destroyed my prior Adobe pdf printer. How do I reinstall the printer instance without reinstalling Acrobat XI?
I found a reply for an earlier version of Acrobat, but I have no interest in installing the PDF printer into \Desktop or \Documents. Whatever it said to do didn't work and I've received no reply to my question posted on that old thread.
So, how do I recreate the Adobe PDF printer, and, how do I do so while selecting where I want the .pdf files to be located?

What OS are you running? If it is a version of Windows, is it 32 or 64 bit? Are you using 11.0.0? Did you reboot after the install? If you did not reboot, then do that first. The next step is to run a repair and then do the updates (XI is currently at 11.0.03). Both the Repair and the Updates can be run from the Help menu.

How do I create an interactive PDF file with variable data

We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer. Customizations would include different greetings (Dear Bob, Dear Dana, etc), as well as different charts based on data unique to the customer, different photographs, etc.
I've seen that InDesign and Acrobat Professional can be used to create an interactive PDF (such as from http://tv.adobe.com/watch/ask-the-adobe-ones/14-calling-rufus-about-interactive-pdf-making). However I don't understand how I can insert data from a database, csv file, excel file etc into the PDF file so that each page, or each set of pages, within the PDF can be customized.
Can anyone point me to a tool to use for this?

For that kind of volume and unattended operation, you want InDesign Server – which is the server/high volume edition of INDD.
