Hi out there! I have an I pod classic 80gb. New as of the last 3-4 months. My question is...How do I get it to shuffle "songs" within a playlist? It seems to only give me the option in the settings to set the shuffle to "albums" within a playlist. Am I missing some software update? iTunes on my computer has the option to shuffle songs in a playlist so why doesnt my ipod have the same option? HELP!! Thanks!!

In the settings menu, make sure that shuffle is set to "songs". Then select any playlist, then press play (not select). The songs within that playlist will be shuffled.

Shuffle songs when selecting playlist by genre

When I choose to listen to songs by "genre" on my iPhone, the new OS seems to not allow me to shuffle all sings within that genre, only songs within an artist or album. Am I missing something?

Under the Settings menu, select Shuffle. Try setting the shuffle to to "Songs" rather than "Albums". That's what worked for me. Also works to shuffle songs from your entire library under Music/Songs. If you have it set to album, it will shuffle the albums but not the songs within the album. Hope this helps!

You can set any song to Skip when shuffling.
In your iTunes Library, highlight the song and right-click/Get Info. On the Options tab is the Skip when shuffling box. Select that and then Sync the iPod with your Library.

The shuffle setting in the main menu will shuffle through the entire library as you have found out.
You need to go to settings>shuffle this will toggle through off/song/album. Once you have set this it will stay the same until you change the setting.
Now when you start playing a song in a playlist the iPod will shuffle through that playlist (or if you select your song through artist then it will shuffle through all the songs for that artist etc)

Besides using "View Options", how do you arrange songs within a playlist into a personal preference sequence?
I've tried dragging songs around within a playlist to put them in an order that I prefer, but they wont move outside an order combination defined in "View Options". I've also tried turning off the shuffle option as suggested in a separate post, but this did not work.

OK, just click on the first unnamed column where it shows 1,2,3,etc.
Now you should be able to drag them around how you want.

Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.

I noticed this was missing too- I use some apps on my iPhone for running and when synced over bluetooth in my car, where the new "random button" and "up next" isn't a viable solution. I have to save a randomized playlist ahead of time since those uses don't support randomization through iTunes- they can only play in the playlist order.
I like to have 5 copies of the same playlist each randomized weekly ahead of time and synced so that each time I go running, it's not the exact same order. Can't find how to do this in iTunes 11.

you have to convert it to a ringtone first. searching google will give you many ways to do it. also, there are some ringtone apps with pros and cons to each one. you cannot just pick a song on your phone and make it a ringtone unfourtunately.
