How do I shuffle within a play list

If I have multiple playlists, how do I select a single playlist so that the songs shuffle within that playlist. It seems when I select a playlist, the same sequence of songs get played.

On the iPod, go to SETTINGS > SHUFFLE and set it to SONGS.
Then, go back, hightlight the name of the playlist and press PLAY.
It will play just that playlist and it will be shuffled.
Cheers!

  • I have my ipod backed up on multiple computers but only one recognizes all my playlists.  How can I get all my play lists to show up on multiple computers?

I have my ipod backed up on multiple computers but only one computershows all my playlists.  How can I get all my play lists to show up on multiple computers?

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply.
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting to a different computer if your current one is out of commission. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it.

  • How do you shuffle within a selected playlist?

That's all I need to know. We're trying to manage 2 iPods from one Itunes account on one laptop and my wife hates most of my music. This makes her shuffle of all songs not very good.

That section only discusses how to shuffle within entire playlist and by albums, which I already know. *I'm trying to figure out how to shuffle within a selected playlist. It isn't discussed within the manual.*
Have you tried doing the following in your *selected playlist?*
*Setting iPod nano to Shuffle Songs*
You can set iPod nano to play songs, albums, or your entire library in random order.
+To set iPod nano to shuffle and play all your songs:+
Choose Shuffle Songs from the iPod nano main menu.
iPod nano begins playing songs from your entire music library in random order,
    skipping audiobooks and podcasts.
+To set iPod nano to always shuffle songs or albums:+
1 Choose Settings from the iPod nano main menu.
2 Set Shuffle to either Songs or Albums.
When you set iPod nano to shuffle songs, iPod nano shuffles songs within whatever list
(for example, album or playlist) you choose to play.
When you set iPod nano to shuffle albums, it plays all the songs on an album in order,
and then randomly selects another album and plays through it in order.
You can also set iPod nano to shuffle songs directly from the Now Playing screen.
+To set iPod nano to shuffle songs from the Now Playing screen:+
1 From the Now Playing screen, press the Center button until the shuffle slider appears.
2 Use the Click Wheel to set iPod nano to shuffle songs or albums.
You can skip ahead to a random song by shaking iPod nano.
+To shuffle songs while a song is playing or paused:+
Shake iPod nano from side to side. A new song starts to play.

  • How Can I Shuffle Within a Fold

I made a few folders and when I try to shuffle the music within one folder, it never works...after a couple songs, it'll pull tracks out of another folder.
How can I contain shuffling to one folder?

When I search thru the settings, there's nothing that say Random shuffle...and if there was, how do I know it stays within the one folder? Seems to me "random" and "shuffle" are synonymous and redundant.
Doesn't ANYONE know how to shuffle songs within one folder?

  • How can I back up my play lists to DVD?

I would like to back up my ipod playlists to DVD. I have A DVD-RW which is external (i.e. not in built to my PC)
When I try to save the playlist to disk through itunes, it tries to save it to my internal CDRW - but as the playlist is quite large a CD will not have enough space. I want to send the data to the DVD?
How do I point itunes to the DVDRW and therefore save to DVD?

    have sorted it now

  • How can I put together a play list in a specific order - or reorder an existing one?

I'm putting together a playlist for my brother's 80 birthday - one top 10 song from each year from 1934 through 2013.  All songs have been assembled and put in a playlist, but because they may have been recorded, rerecorded or remastered at different times, a chronological sort doesn't work.  Is there any way to manually establish / reestablish the order of the playlist?

    Select the playlist.
iTunes menu View > View options.
Set Sort order to Manual then you can drag songs up/down in the playlist.

  • 2nd gen no longer shuffles by play list

Ever since I purchased my 2nd generation Nano years ago, I was able to shuffle my main play list independently from my holiday play list and vice-versa.  Lately, it's been shuffling a combination of both play lists.  If I start out by selecting shuffle and then go to my main play list, it plays the songs in order from A-Z, completely ignoring the fact that I selected to shuffle the songs.  In the past, it would always shuffle ONLY the play list that I selected at the time.  The only way I can get shuffle to work is if it plays both my main play list and my holiday play list.  I don't necessarily want to listen to holiday songs in the middle of July.    Any idea why shuffle all of the sudden stopped working the way it used to?

    Hi Kimberly3,
If you are having an issue with your iPod nano not performing its shuffle function as expected, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • I saved a play list on my iPad .. How can I get that list to my iPhone?

How can you get a saved Play List from the iPad to the iPhone?  It did not show up even after I synched both devices.

If you are using iTunes Match the playlist will be automatically be pushed to he cloud then other iOS devices. However if you are not using iTM then playlists do not sync between devices and you will need to create the playlist in iTunes to sync it to your iPod.

  • Unknown error code 13014 on iTunes 8.0.2-genius play list function is dead

After I upgraded my PC, I copied old libraries and music files from the old hard drive to the new one. I installed the newest version of iTunes (8.0.2) and when I plugged in my ipod, I saw something I had never seen. Guess what it is?
    'Unknown error code 13014!'
I had no problems for using every function that my iPod touch and iTunes have (including Genius play list) and of course, I've been updating every version of firmwares and iTunes programs. After I googled about this incident, I figured out this problem should not be seen on the newest version of iTunes but I'm still suffering from it.
Temporally, I turned off Genius Play List and now, that error code doesn't pop up but of course, I can not use Genius Play list because of it.
I *uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes*, *restored firmware*, *moved Library Extras & Genius.itdb* and *do them again and again*. Of course, *none of them worked*.
What shall I do? Is there anyone else who is experiencing same thing to me? How can I get my Genius Play List function back?
Please Help me. I'm desperate. :<
Any help would be really appreciated.

We have the same problem! i just purchased an ipod touch and that same error kept popping up. so i searched, and disabled the Genius, and now i can't use it. im really mad. and sad.
im thinking about going to the apple store to fix this problem.. but i dont know if theyll help me.. plus, do i have to bring my laptop with me to the apple store? OMG. apple is so frustrating!!! i feel your pain !!!!!!

If you go to the Now Playing screen, the Repeat control is the the arrowed racetrack icon on the left side right below the scrubber bar. Tap the icon to change. It is white when Repeat is off.

When I import my music files to iTunes will I be creating new files for every file I import? If the answer is YES; where are those files going to be stored and how much space will they use?
To begin with you can't manage FLAC in iTunes. The use of iTunes is at this moment limited to WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, AAC and MP3. But that's not a problem because if I understand you correctly you want to organize the MP3-files in iTunes.
When you import music files you can let iTunes copy all files and put it in an iTunes-media-Folder. You can make the choice in preferences-->tab advanced.
If you deselect the second blue checkbox (sorry, in Dutch) iTunes won't copy files as you import the files in your library. It will use the files from the place they are on the disk now. So you have a choice. But if you want iTunes to copy them, they will be placed in a folder called iTunesMedia. This is how it placed on your disk.
All files will be put in one music folder well ordered by artist and albums. If you want to make a backup of all your music you just have to copy the iTunes folder to another disk. You can backup all music at once. How much space they will use depends on the bitrate of the MP3 and whether you add more tagging to it. You can have iTunes add album artwork. That means adding gif or jpg files to your library. Are you using bitrate 320 for your MP3?
If you tell me I can give you estimates on the disk-space you will need.

  • HT1655 i have bought a i pod shuffle 3 gen but still has song on it how do i reset and wipe contents so and own play list

how do you re set an ipod 3 generation i bought one and it has old play list on and i want to wipe it so i can upload my own music

Connect the shuffle and select it the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
With the shuffle selected, the shuffle's Summary screen appears to the right.  There is a button there, to Restore the shuffle.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.
After the Restore complete, you can sync it to your iTunes library.  If you want tips on loading content to the shuffle, please post back.

  • Some how my IPOD Shuffle play list got changed to genres, I can't get it back listed as I added each song?

My play list for my I POD Shuffle somehow got changed to genres. I can't find a place to help me return it to it's original version of 1st song, followed by second
etc: I have 169 songs, and need help?

Well, shut my mouth!  There was a similar question over to the right about a 6th generation nano repeating over and over again -- I read the answer to that one, followed the instructions, and holy crap, it's back to normal.
Is there a name for this when you end up replying to your own aggravating question?  That's what I did.  Now I can go out and listen.  It's only 91 degrees.  Heaven. Thanks, Apple.

  • How do I get iTunes songs which were downloaded from external back-up drive to play on new computer and is there a way to get my play lists back?

When I try to play a song from my re-installed iTunes library, I get the error message:  "Song xxx could not be played because original file could not be found.  Would you like to locate it?" > "Locate" or "Cancel."  When I click on "Locate" I can't figure out how to get the song to play from any of the places that were "located."  The path is C:\users\Janet\libraries\music\iTunes
However, iTunes songs chosen from my library will play in iTunes (current version) when I have the external back-up drive plugged in!  I recently copied my backed-up iTunes library from my external back-up drive to a new computer.
Most of the songs, but not all, magically appear in Windows Media Player and I can play those just fine.
I can see my iTunes library in the newest version of iTunes, recently downloaded to new computer, but can't play songs without connecting to the external back-up drive - so maybe there is something else on that external drive that needs to be on my C: drive?
I am using an HP Pavillion Notebook, Windows 7, 64-bit.  My previous computer was Windows Vista.  Before Vista, I had XP.
Back when I had XP, I wanted to purchase some songs to download to my computer. Because iTunes had the ability, I used it to create a massive library of songs, most of which were ripped from my CDs.  I don't have an iPod and iTunes worked fine for creating playlists and then burning them to CDs.
Also, I'd like to know if there is a way to get back my playlists.
And another thing - in the older version of iTunes, there was a folder in the lists on the left-hand side of the screen where I could click to see all the songs I had purchased.  I'd like to get that ability back if possible.
In hindsight, iTunes was probably not the best choice for me to build my music library in a Windows operating system, but it seemed to be the best choice at the time.  I really wish I could convert all the songs to mp3 format.
I have been working with computers since the days of DOS, black and white screens, and no mice.  The first computer I bought for my own use at home was a Mac and it had "Flying Toasters" as a screensaver.  (I miss that screensaver.)  It did not have a tower and I believe they called it a laptop, even though the thing was as big as a suitcase and probably weighed around 30 pounds.  However, I am by no means a computer expert.  In other words, pretend you're trying to tell your mother how to do what I am asking. =)
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"
