How do I shutdown the "Downloading the latest applications" box?

The box is above the sites tabs and below the toolbars and is taking up a lot of space. There doesn't seem to be a place to close the box and it just sits there running.

Thank you.... I went to the <add-ons> and turned off the "MSN Toolbar" and after the restart the "Downloading" bar was gone.. I have found out my son was using Windows Internet Explorer for his facebook and it somehow activated the MSN toolbar here on Firefox.

That's down to the web site. If "Contact Us" links to a page with details, fine, but as you say, some sites make the link a mailto: link, which automatically opens your default Mail app.
I don't think there's a setting to change this, but TinkerTool (free) allows you to change some "under the hood" settings, and might help

  • I have a blue bar above the internet page tab that says "downloading the latest applications." It hasn't finished the downloading in the 2 weeks since I loaded Firefox. How do I get rid of it?

After I loaded Firefox and used it the 1st time, a blue bar appears above the internet page tab that says "Downloading the latest applications". No matter how long I leave the internet and compute on, it never finishes downloading. And every time I restart Firefox, the same blue bar appears. How do I get rid of this?

  • How do I get rid of the blue "downloading the latest applications" bar which won't go away even after uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox?

Can't get rid of the blue "downloading the latest applications" bar that seems to be just hanging and won't go away. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but the bar is still there after 2 days. I updated something (can't remember what!) on I.E., and it had the same blue bar, but it had a box I could x out of so it went away on I.E. I don't know why the blue bar is there on Firefox, as I did the update while on I.E.

    Annette,
#In the menu bar, at the top of the Firefox window, Go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions.
    # Locate ''each ''of the following extensions by name and click the disable button
#Restart Firefox as prompted and see if the undesired toolbar has been removed.
#The extensions to disable are: '''Crawler Toolbar''', '''MP3 Rocket Toolbar''', '''MSN Toolbar''', '''Search Helper Extension'''
If you don't need some / all of those toolbars, consider leaving them disabled.
You can probably remove these toolbars permanently from Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.

The spinning stopped after running my SuperAntispyware...but started up again when I tried to update my extensions on Firefox.
I think that the problem might be with Adobe and Shockwave. I tried to find updates for my plug-ins and extensions for those programs when prompted by Mozilla Firefox. However, the site I was sent to from Firefox concerning Adobe and Shockwave updates, wasn't helpful.
I tried installing, but it didn't work. I was prompted to look for instructions on Adobe by clicking on a link that didn't even lead me to anything regarding Mozilla Firefox. Finally, I clicked on the "still having problems" link, or something similar to that. It stored a file under "Downloads," which I opened and installed.
I was given the message that the installation was successful, but Mozilla Firefox still showed that my Adobe and Shockwave needed to be updated.
Anyone have any experience with installing Adobe and Shockwave with Mozilla Firefox?

  • How do i get the latest version of safari on my macbook pro? where is this in the apple store??

How do I get the latest version of safari on my macbook pro?

    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later

             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
