How do I slur midi notes?

I'm sort of a newbie here...

"Slurring notes together" is legato (covered above), & "gradually changing to another note" is glissando.
Glissando effects can only be achieved if the sound in question supports them. However, you can simulate the effect by using the pitch wheel to move the original note towards your intended destination, at which point you can simultaneously release the pitch wheel controller & play the destination note.
It might take a bit of practice, but essentially you are looking to insert pitch wheel events into your MIDI Regions. In fact, you can record them separately on another Track set to the same MIDI Channel, allowing you to record the note events separately, which gives you a slightly easier time of getting it just right!

  • How do i transpose midi notes but maintain the key?

I'd like to take a midi track and shift it up to the next mode (ie, ii instead of I) while following the key. What is the simplest way to do this? In other words, I'd like to "transpose" but maintain the key. C-E-G would become D-F-A (not D-F#-A, as just transposing would do). I see there's a "Diatonic Insert" for the Score mode, but I'd like "Diatonic Edit" or something like that.
    Using Logic 8.
Thanks in advance for any tips, and I apologize if I missed this answer somewhere in the forum already.

I found a contentious discussion from Feb 2010 that seemed to suggest this was not an available feature ("and why would you need it??!! Just play it again!!"). But if anyone knows a way, I'd be grateful.
For now I've just ended up dragging the notes up and then manually adjusting in Score mode the errant notes that went out of key.

  • Making a midi note play glissando

    Hi all,
does anybody know how to make a midi note play glissando??
i often write my music in sibelius and export it over as a midi file into logic and tweek it from there. the problem is if i write a glissando in sibelius from say A up to an E with a glissando line logic only reads the file as A held with a where the glissando line would be... so, how can i make a note play glissando in logic.
i know how to do this with key switiching( in somthing like Kontakt) but maybe there is another way?
    thanks
    Marc

I'd also thought that there was a pitch bend solution, but the problem is that a real glissando is not simply a pitch bend. There's an interesting discussion over on this board http://www.macjams.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=3;showtopic=151058
and this guy JONK came up with a great solution. Not the simplest thing, but definitely a solution.

  • How to program a midi foot controller on Mainstage? Does anyone knows how to program the foot controller with exclusive solo channel in order not to dance "tip tap" while from clean guitar I go to crunch or solo? How to do this programming on Mainstage?

How to program a midi foot controller on Mainstage? Does anyone knows how to program the foot controller with exclusive solo channel in order not to dance "tip tap" while from clean guitar I go to crunch or solo? How to do this programming on Mainstage?
I basically managed to learn how to invert parameters which allows me to be as default in the clean guitar channel and if I switch the first button on the midi foot controller I switch to crunch, but at this point I tryied so hard to programm the second and third button to switch, only through a button in one step, to a third channel for distorsion or a 4th channel for solo guitar but I couldn't figured out how this work can be done!
I would appreciate if anyone could help or share this experience with others who are experiencing the same problem.
    Cheers.

I cannot seem to get mainstage to recognize my FCB either. I am using IFCB. Anyone figure this out?

  • How to create a group of midi notes and...?

Hi, I was thinking about if it's possible to create for example a group of 32 nidi notes with a specific duration and a specific separation between them without painting them.
And then, I have a drum on the beat with its midi notes, now I want to have a sound wich midi note is off the beat at the first time but after a time it gets on the beat linearly, is it possible without painting the notes?Maybe with the transform window??
    Thanks a lot!

Is there a ny option in logic to create multiple midi notes at once?
In my comment here, I described how to use the Hyper Editor to create multiple midi notes at once. That was for the purpose of creating a drum roll, but the method can also be used in other situations.
the second is a little bit earlier, the third a little bit more
I'm not sure I understand, but I might. I think the easiest way to do this is to convert the midi to audio, and then use Flex to alter the length (i.e., tempo) of the region.

  • How do I move cc 64 (sustain) data in sync when I move midi notes?

In the matrix editor, when I 'Select All Following' in order to move everything that follows back a few ticks to get rid of a rythmic hesitation, the sustain pedal data doesn't move with the notes. Obviously, this messes up the piano pedaling. Is there a way to 'attach' the controller info to the notes when I move them, or is there a better view window in which to this sort of editing? Thanks!

I was trying to figure this out myself and didn't understand the previous reply at first. But after a few seconds playing around I got it. If you open the midi matrix editor (in the 'windows' menu) you can select the notes you desire to move. After selecting the notes go to the event list (in the 'windows' menu). You should see the notes you've already selected in the event list highlighted in gray.
The items listed as 'control' are the sustain pedal controls in the midi information. (you can tweak these number values here as well). Holding the 'shift' key down, click all of the sustain pedal control items that you want to move. They should be within and/or around the already highlighted notes (the list is in order of sequence of the song). Once all is selected you can switch back to the matrix editor and drag the notes where you want them like normal, but you will also be moving the sustain information since you selected it in the event list.
Also, within the matrix editor itself you can use the view menu and navigate to the hyper draw option and choose sustain pedal. Now you can see the sustain controls under the midi notes and edit the length, etc. You can use the little arrow on the left to change what the hyper draw editing will change as well (volume, sustain pedal, etc.). Hope that helps.

  • Logic randomly playing midi notes.  How do I turn it off?

When i solo a track logic triggers a midi note. same with mute and selecting and pretty much every button and menu in logic triggers a midi note or CC. What is going on here? My midi keyboard keeps playing notes cuz logic keep triggering them.
    Solo plays a F1
    Mute plays a E1
    Record plays a C2
    selecting a track plays a D4
Everything triggers a midi note or CC.  it's bugging me a messing up my sessions.  Pleases help me.

  • Locking midi controller expression data to midi note data.  How to do it?

I am recording some sax and trumpet lines into Logic using Samplemodeling software (The Trumpet, The Sax Brothers). The data goes into Logic on a midi channel.
At the same time as playing the notes, I am using an expression pedal to control different aspects of the sound (cc64, but it could be set to anything midi controller number, as long as I also set it in the Samplemodeling software and make sure that Logic receives and Samplemodeling sends on the same midi channel).
The midi note data and midi data record properly. However, I am having a problem with editing. If I move the note in time (i.e. shift it left or right in piano roll), the cc64 data does not move with it. I can see the data, and of course, could cut and paste it or hyper draw it, but that would be very time consuming. Is there a way to lock the expression data to the note data so that when you move the note the midi controller data moves as well. I assume the same question would apply to pitch/volume/pan or any other controller, but I have not tried that.
Alternately, is there another way to record the data, so it is locked to the midi notes?
    Many thanks
    Steven
If it is relevant, I am using:
    Logic 9 Studio
    Mac 2.93 Dual Quad
    Novation Keyboard

Well, I routed around in the manual and finally found the answer. There is a pull down menu which allows you to choose to tie together the non-note midi data to the note data.
"Turn on the Functions > Include Non-Note MIDI Events setting to tie other data (such as pitch-bend, modulation, aftertouch, or poly pressure) in a region to the region’s notes."
    Problem solved.

  • MIDI note input appears 1 octave lower when controller pads are hit

I can't figure this out and I've wasted 5 hours today trying to correct it....
I have recently noticed that midi input from my padKontrol is being transposed down 1 octave (ie I hit an A2, it appears and sounds in my midi applications as A1). This does not occur with midi data that comes direct from my Axiom 61 keyboard; however, it does happen with another device (MV8000) I have that uses the Axiom's Midi IN interface. I hit a pad on the Mv that is assigned to A2, it shows up as A1 in the Logic transport. In Battery it will trigger the cell assigned to A1 instead of A2.
I'm perplexed because it is happening with two different devices on two different interfaces, yet the Axiom doesn't do it on its own ouput, but it does occur on the data received at the midi in on its interface. Doesn't make sense and it occurs both in Logic and Battery. I'm thinking its an AMS/Core Midi issue since hte padKontrol is truly plugnd play (did not have to install drivers), but I dont have clue on how to get AMS to act right. I couldn't find another applicable forum to post this so I am asking here since Logic is the closest subject to my issue.
    Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for the response. I know the two pieces of hardware that are impacted pretty well and they have no setting to transpose outbound midi notes in realtime. I bellieve I found the problem to actually be software related, In Logic, somehow I had the middle C setting set to C3. When I switched it to Roland C4, which I think is the default, the notes I hit on my controller and the MV appeared in the transport as they were programmed. As far as Battery goes, I think it may default to midlle C at C3 (I'll have to check), but I set it to transpose midi input up 1 octave.

  • Recording 'Volume' with the midi notes??

Has anyone figured out how to get GB-09' to record:
-midi volume at the same time your playing the actual midi notes in? ( all at once )
+maybe expression pedal or volume pedal? or re-mapping sysex, or....
    GB 9' version 5.1 (398)

GB doesn't record volume changes in Real Time, it does, however record velocity (which may appear as volume changes, depending on the instrument)

Just to be clear.. no plugins anywhere in the project, including the master bus?
If you select a software instrument track and play a few notes/chords before recording on that track you get the 1st note problem?  What is your Preferences/Audio "I/O Buffer Size" set at?
Logic X does have considerably more overhead than Logic 9 but I don't think this is the problem.
    For testing:
    Preferences/Audio/Devices  I/O Buffer = 128
"                                  "     Recording Delay = 0 (this setting should always be zero)
    "                                  "    Software Monitoring = Off
    Preferences/Audio/General Tab   Track/Mute = Slow Response-CPU Saving)
"                                          "   Sample Accurate Automation = Volume, Pan Sends
"                                          "   Recording File Type = Wave (BWF) or AIFF
"                                          "   Plugin Latencey Compensation = Audio & Software Instrument Tracks.
    Reboot the computer before testing.

  • Set up midi notes input for plugin like Harmony engine evo

    Hi!
Can anyone tell me how to set up for midi notes input to a plugin. Lets say you have a keyboard that sends notes info and it works fine to run an instrument in a instrument  channel with it. Now, if you want to send this notes to a audio plugin like Harmony engine Evo from Antares that resides in a audio channel, how do you do it? It seems like the only midi you can get thru is controller messenges and thats not of any help to create harmonies from midi chord.

I think this is the standard chat about getting those tracks in the autoload to get the instrument to sound, as in getting the QT instruments to sound when they play MIDI on those tracks...
For those who posted.. A couple of tips -
    1) Read the manual about audio instruments
    2) Check out David's thread called Troubleshooting tips for new users or something like that. I'm sure he will correct me.
If you still can't get it to happen, let us know. In general, the Logic EXS sounds will be better that the QT sounds, so you might as well ignore them really.

  • HT5147 How do I assign a NOTE to a button?

    Hello,
I want to assign a note to a button.  I would like to set it up where I press a button and it plays the note B on the Cello Tremello sound that will continue until I stop it by pressing the button again (toggle).  This will free me up to use both hands to play a piano part underneath the "hum" of the cello.
I have gotten as far as assigning the button to the cello sound I want.  But I can't figure out how to assign the B note to the button.  I have spent about two hours trying to figure this out, with no avail.
I have an Oxygen 49 midi controller and a notebook air running the MainStage 2.
    Thanks,

no that does not work. All that allows me to do is chang tracking speed, scrolling speed, double click speed, and primary mouse button (left or right). Any other ideas?

  • Getting external software to trigger midi notes in a logic project

    Happy new years guys,
I've recently figured out how to use a 3rd party software (e.g. ableton live) to input midi notes into logic.
so i can set up an ES2 in logic, and use the software (ableton) as the source of midi info. great.
however, when i press the "spacebar" (i.e. play) to kick off my logic project, ableton is not playing as well.
ableton would play synced if logic was opened 1st, and ableton was the re-wire slave. but in re-wire slave mode, ableton has no midi outs !!
so on the 1 hand, i can open ableton 1st, then logic - which would give me the ability to use midi events in ableton to trigger ES2, but then I can't sync the playback of logic + ableton.
on the 2nd hand, i can open logic 1st, then ableton - which would let me press spacebar in logic, and ableton would then run synced as the slave. but this way, ableton has no midi outs, as its runnin in re-wire slave mode !!
what i really want to do is just use ableton as the midi sequencer / trigger, and use logic for everything else (mixing, effects, ES2 synth, ESM etc.)
i just want to use ableton to edit / create my midi info etc.
anybody have suggestions on how I can achieve this?
i appreciate your time / responses. this forum has been a great help for me.
    ian

There's a couple of things to try...
If you're only using Ableton as the MIDI sequencer...
See if Ableton has the ability to sync to "MIDI Clock" and MIDI Song Pointer if possible.
Go into Logic's synchronization and enable MIDI Clock Out.
I don't know if the current IAC bus will do ot if you have to crteate a second.
The second way would invlove MTC (Midi Time Code) over a second IAC bus.

  • Midi not working at all.

Hi I have a RME hammerfall multiface soundcard plugged into a G5 dual 2.3
I load up different AU instruments in logic 7.1 and no sound. I look at the transport panel and no midi notes are registering.
I thought maybe it was logic, but then I loaded up different native instrument standalones which used to work and they also do not work.
I get audio to work fine... just midi suddenly has stopped working
Any idea how to fix it?, any preferences that I need to trash etc... i'm totally lost as to what to do....
    thanks heaps.
    Prahlad.

If oyur MIDI interface shows activity when you send data check your audio Midi setup. Check if your interface has a thru or bypass mode. Verify it gets as far as Audio MIDI setup or not.
