  • How do I sort alphabetically?

I inadvertantly asked this in the iTunes for Windows community, so I'm reposting here.
When I select Genre, how do I sort the Album titles, or song titles, or artists alphabetically?
When I select the Albums view, how do I sort them alphabetically? They are all mixed up--hard to find what I want.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Just updated to iTunes 11

I posted this on a different discussion, and so here it is copied and pasted lol.
    Hope it helps ^.^
mmickeyfromfl--iTunes 11 is really, frustratingly different and won't let you do that ^.^"
Here is a step by step picture tutorial :
Step 1-Up thar in the top right corner, type in what artist you want (1). Or you can click "Music" at the top black bar, and then when scroll down to whatever genre you want (2).
    1.
    2.
Step 2-If you did the genre version, on the right sidebar area, there should be a "Top songs", click that, and there, you can sort however you want. It works like normal. Idk why.
If you searched artist, however, you can't just click "songs" or "see all" at the songs slidey area (really, anything you see at the top right side bar, don't click it, it won't let you sort because it's a search result list. IDK why Apple did this, but it did )
You have to click the artist's name, under the top part of the right sidebar, where it says "Artists and More" (SEE BELOW)
Once you click that, the artist page pops up:
There, click "see all" for songs:
    And then you can sort.
    I hope that helped!
LOL sorry, I just realized that I changed artists halfway. haha....^.^"

I've solved it. Turns out, some menu entries are stored in ~./local/share/applications. Removing it there solved the problem.

  • How can I sort alphabetically three columns?

    Hi to everybody!
I've got some problems sorting alphabetically three columns. If I try to sort one column it changes also the others. I want three independent columns and each of them must be sorted out alphabetically.
In Excel it's so easy: I just have to select the column and push the button "sort the column alphabetically". Why is that so difficult in numbers?
    Check it out: http://yfrog.com/j6screenshot01tj

    l,
What is the nature of the content in the three columns? If the content is just data, and not calculations or the input to calculations, you can easily accomplish a single column sort in Numbers.
I see from your screen shot that you are still in the Excel mindset. You have a large table with more rows and columns empty than occupied. To work most effectively in Numbers we usually use only as many rows and columns as necessary, and if we have data that is of another set and not related, we begin a new table.
So, if your data meets the requirements of the first paragraph and you have trimmed away the excess rows and columns we can do the following: Click once on the label of the column you wish to independently sort. Then click again on this label and drag it up and away from the table to a blank area of the canvas. Perform the sort on the separated column. Then grab the sorted column in the same way as before and move it over the original table, watching the borders between columns highlight as you move over them. The double line between columns identifies the insertion point. When you have your sorted column in the right place, drop it back into the original table.

  • How can I sort the bookmarks menu? Sorting only works in "organize bookmarks", doesn't apply to the menu.

I want my bookmarks to be listed alphabetically. I can select "sort by name" or "sort A-Z" under the Organize Bookmarks tab, but my choice applies to the Organize Bookmarks list only; when I open my Bookmarks menu, it remains unsorted. How can I apply my sorting preference to the actual Bookmarks list?

The Views menu in the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) is for displaying the bookmarks in different sorting orders (hence the name Views) and doesn't sort bookmarks permanently.
Right-click a folder to open the context menu and choose "Sort By Name" in the left pane of the Bookmarks Manager or in the side bar to sort the bookmarks alphabetically or drag bookmarks to the wanted position. If dragging doesn't work then use Cut and Paste instead.
You may have to close (Firefox> Quit) and restart Firefox to make changes appear in the Bookmarks menu because on Mac that menu is maintained by the OS and not by Firefox.

  • How do I sort alphabetically in Numbers

I just need to sort a simple column of names in alphabetical order.  There has to be a way to do this right/

    Taneria,
I am not sure why sort ascedning or descending is useless.  What other ways can you sort?  Then you sort alphbetical you are sorting ascending if you sort A > Z, but you are sorting descending if you sort Z > A.
I suggest converting the 1st row of your table to a header by clicking the contextual menu for the row and selecting "Convert to Header Row"
Then you should be able to change the sort by more than 1 column where the column selector is more meaningful.
If you are not really wanting to sort but, instead, filter.... you can use the "Show rows that match the following" by selecting the Choose a column, then check the box

  • Hi people, can anyone tell whether one has the possibility in numbers, the entries in the pop-up menu to sort alphabetically me

hi people, can anyone tell whether one has the possibility in numbers, the entries in the pop-up menu to sort alphabetically me

    Hi Dieter,
Your profile shows Mac OS X (10.6.8) so it seems you are using Numbers version 2.x
Numbers 2 does not have the ability to sort Pop-Up Menu entries (except by a painful process of adding or subtracting entries in Inspector).
Numbers 3 makes Pop-Up Menus a breeze. But it is your choice whether to update to OS X Mavericks and Numbers 3 . Some features have been lost, other features have been added, and there are some workarounds.

  • How can I sort the Finders Window menu Alphabetically ?

Currently my windows menu in the Finder is sorted by the order that my windows were opened at the start of the day, what I would like to have is it sorted Alphabetically.
Is there a process to do this? I have done many searches but with no success
    Thanks

I don't know of any preference setting to make that happen. Interestingly, other programs like Safari do sort that windows list alphabetically. I never noticed because I like to use Exposé to find the right window.

  • Photos for iOS: How can i sort all of my albums automatically in alphabetical order

    Hey there,
first off, why isn't there a a community for the new Photos app?
    Anyway, here is my problem:
How can i sort my albums on the new Photos app on iOS?
I think it's not possible at the moment.
I am using the iCloud Photo library and uploadet all of my 15.000 photos from the last 15 years.
And because of that, i now have many many albums on Photos now.
Overall i love the new app and i love the iCloud Photo library, but i cannot sort my albums on the iOS app automatically in alphabetical order.
I can sort albums manual, but who wants that, when you have so many of them???
I have Photos on my Mac too and there i am able to do sort them in alphabetical order. But it is not adopted to iOS or the iCloud Web-App.
Because of that, i have a complete picture chaos on my iPhone and when i am looking for this one pic in that one album it takes me forever to find it.
So please Apple, fix this and we all can live happily ever after!
    Thank you!

Moments in Photo are the new Events.  T
here's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When the library was first migrated there was a folder created titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events are represented by an album in the folder. To open the sidebar if it's not open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window showing all of the albums.
The downside to this simulation is that the Album/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title while viewed in the Folder in the main window or in the sidebar. But they can be sorted manually.
Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

  • How can I sort the words in a document into an alphabetical list?

How can I sort the words in a document into an alphabetical list? Thanks!

    writer888 wrote:

Copy the words to the Mac's clipboard (Edit menu> Copy)
    Paste into TextEdit
Next open the Edit > Find > Find window in Text Edit.
Highlight a space between two words and Edit menu > copy, paste into the Find field
Next create a return in the middle of your text and copy that and paste into the Replace field
    Click Replace All.
Now Edit > Select All and Edit > Copy
Open a Spreadsheet program with Sort ability and paste into the second column cell from the top
place a "a" into the top column cell, select the entire colum
    Sort desending order
Now if you need it out of spreadsheet format, then your going to need to copy just the data cells (not the entire column to avoid problems) and Paste "Special" as unformatted text into a word processing program
If you need to get rid of the Returns, do the opposite you did in Text Edit, replace the Returns with Spaces
A chore, but it's rare one needs to sort words into alaphabetical order.
FYI, I used TextEdit and the free LibreOffice (Spreadsheet and Word Processing) for the above effects.

  • How do I sort clips in the Project panel library (bin) alphabetically by file name?

Two questions: How do I sort clip thumbnails in the Project Panel library (bin) alphabetically by file name?
How do I "select" a group of 25 consecutive clips on the time line to form a group without having to click on each individual clip one at a time. The method in the Help menu about "alt" click does nothing for me.

Sorry, I missed part 2. Unless CS4.2 has added a true "Group" function, like in InDesign, Illustrator, etc., there is not a direct way to keep Selected Clips together. However, you can put them on their own Sequence and then Nest that Sequence with others. This is often done, so that one can apply Effects "globally" to that Nested Sequence. [Note: there is no real Group function in Titler either, but for many operations, one can Select multiple Text Blocks, Shapes, Lines, etc., but there is no way to permanently "hold" that group.]
The Alt-click in the Project Panel, for instance, will allow one to drag all to the Timeline, and the Shift-click (or lasso w/ Cursor) in the Timeline will allow one to apply certain things to that group, but the moment that any other Clip is Selected, that "group," does not exist.
I can see a use for a real Group function, but for things like the application of Effects, one would still need to do the Nesting. Test this out by Selecting just two Clips, and go to apply an Effect - you cannot do that. OTOH, one can apply an Effect to one Clip, Rt-click it and choose Copy, then Select multiple Clips and Rt-click on those, where you would Paste Attributes. Not exactly what I think you are asking about, but the results, with just a few clicks, should be the same.
If I missed your intent and need, let me know where I went wrong.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How can I sort lines of data (alphabetically) in the new pages 5.0?

How can I sort lines of data (alphabetically) in the new pages 5.0?
It was very simple to do in the previou version of pages.

I'm not sure why people are torturing themselves with Pages 5 given the nearly universal outcry on this forum and the incredibly negative reviews elswhere, such as the App Store.
Pages 4.3 should still be in an iWorks folder within your Applications folder.  Just use that.
Please remember to tell Apple what we need from them at:

  • How to add a new right-click menu entry in Nautilus file browser?

I want to add a couple of new context menu entries to Nautilus File Browser.
So when I e.g. right-click in View Pane on a file "foobar.conf" an menu entry "edit with gedit" should appear (among the other default entries).
When clicked the file "foobar.conf" should be passed to gedit (and gedit editor opened).
    How can I achieve this?
Under Ubuntu there are nautilus-actions but when I try to install them in Solaris with
    pkg install nautilus-actions
then this package is not found.
How else can I create my own context menues?
I would appreciate to have one script with all my context menus, which when run add them all in one step.

To manage selected files or directories, you can use specific Nautilus variables like NAUTILUS_SCRIPT_SELECTED_FILE_PATHS.
