How do I sort by capture time?

I have a full day of clips from 2 cameras, how do I arrange by capture time within imovie...thanks

In iMovie's menu select View>Playhead Info. Now when you select a clip in the Event a black box with white text will appear above the playhead. This box shows the day, date and time recorded - it progressively updates as you skim through the clip. The same applies to Projects, with the addition of the elapsed time also appearing.
So, in the Event you should be able to quickly identify the chronological order of the clips from each camera. Each camera's clips should be in the correct order by default. Now simply drag the clips into your project in the correct order, based on the time code showing in the text box above the playhead.

I can sort by capture time in Lightroom 3, but when I export it puts the files back in original order....maybe I am doing something wrong....that would not surprise me.
I just tried sorting by Capture Time in LR3 and then exporting and renaming.... renamed but not in the capture time sort order....

How can I bulk rename music files in reverse order from artist - song name to songname - artist.
I actually dont need to rename the actual files.
Its just i have a huge txt list of 100,000 music names that are listed as so.
I wonder if we haven't misunderstood what you were asking for. Could it be that you have not a huge file, but just a huge list of names in many small files. If that's the case, you should rather use the following script instead of the previous one.
Since this script does not rename the files, make a backup of your files before running it.
set theFolder to choose folder -- the folder containing your text files
    tell application "Finder"
set theNames to name of files of theFolder whose name extension is "txt"
    end tell
    set theTextFiles to {}
set theFolderPath to POSIX path of theFolder
    repeat with thisName in theNames
copy theFolderPath & thisName to the end of theTextFiles
    end repeat
    repeat with thisFile in theTextFiles
set F1 to open for access thisFile
        set theText to read F1
        close access F1
set theParagraphs to paragraphs of theText
set bigList to (a reference to theParagraphs)
        set theNewParagraphs to {}
set bigNewList to (a reference to theNewParagraphs)
        repeat with X in bigList
            set P to offset of " - " in X
            if P = 0 then
                set Y to X
            else
                set Y to text (P + 3) through -1 of X & " - " & text 1 through (P - 1) of X
            end if
copy Y & return to the end of bigNewList
        end repeat
set theNewText to text 1 through -2 of (bigNewList as text)
set F2 to open for access thisFile with write permission

  • Sort by Capture Time doesn't work with Flags

Hi all, I hope someone can help me with this. Whenever I flag photos and close and reopen LR, all of the flagged photos go to the end of the series even if I have Sort By Capture Time selected. Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

  • LR3: sorting by capture time

Sorting by "Capture time" does not seem to work right in LR3.4.1. In Grid view, with compact cells, top label: capture date/time, and using Sort: Capture time, I see pictures from 2009, then 1900, 1910, 2010. The files are .jpg and .psd - no movies. Metadata -> Edit capture time... also shows the correct date/time. It's just the sorting that does not get things in the right order. Most of the files are imported from PSE6, which sorted correctly. For some JPGs, LR3 seems to show the windows file creation date (as can be seen in the Windows file properties), not anything in the metadata. For the PSD files, the correct date I want to sort by (the one PSE6 showed) is shown as Exif metadata "date time original" and "date time digitized".
This makes me wonder what date is actually used by LR3 for sorting by capture date?
Any suggestions for getting LR3 to sort the way I want?
    Tia,
    Alex

Interesting -- I was able to confirm the same thing.  It appears that if an image is missing metadata date/time fields, then LR uses the file date-modified for filtering and sorting, and it uses file date-created to display in the grid view.  Seems like a blantant bug to me -- you could report it at the new feedback site, http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/products/photoshop_family_photoshop_lightro om, where Adobe employees reguarly participate.  Adobe may not make this a priority to fix, since their priority is LR's focus on images taken with digital cameras (which always attach a date to the metadata), and those of us using LR to manage non-digital-camera images get lower priority.
    So there are two problems:
    1. You have images with metadata fields XMP:DateTimeOriginal that omit seconds, and when these were imported by a LR version earlier than 3.4, they produced corrupted catalog capture-date entries. You could try doing Metadata > Save Metadata To File followed by Read Metadata To File for these images -- that may clear the corrupted catalog dates and be a little bit easier than removing the images and reimporting them (which would lose your stacking and collections).
    2.  As described above, LR uses file date-created and date-modified inconsistently for images without metadata date/times.  A workaround is to make sure all your images have the field EXIF:DateTimeOriginal in their metadata.  You could do that one photo at a time using the Medata > Edit Capture command.  Alternatively, you could use Exiftool to copy the file date-modified or file date-created into the EXIF:DateTimeOriginal field for just those images that don't already have that field.  That will take some study of Exiftool documentation to come up with the precise command line -- it's a powerful tool but not easy to use at first.
You'll have to figure out whether the file date-modified or the date-created is the best date to use for your images.  Beware that on Windows, date-modified is generally preserved when a file is copied, whereas date-created is not, and some backup programs won't properly preserve date-created.

  • Sorting by Capture Time in ACR 8.2

My System: Mac OS 10.9 Photoshop CS 6 ACR 8.2
    Hi,
since many, many versions I do miss the "sort by capture time" feature in ACR. Do I overlook something or is it just not possible?
    Thanks!

In Bridge sort by Date Created then select sorted images and open them all in ACR filmstrip view.  In ACR they should appear in your Bridge-sorted sequence.

  • Lightroom 5 will not sort images properly, either by file name or capture time.  How can I fix this issue?

I am using Lightroom 5 with OSX 10.9.2 and the sorting feature is not working properly.  When I try to sort my library by file name or capture time, it does not sort properly.  The order of images is mixed and stays that way, even after reboot.  The file information is correct, the sorting is the only issue.  The library is approximately 6,000 images and I am also using a plug in with the Publishing Service feature.  Any help on how to fix this issue without losing my editing work done on the library would be appreciated.  Thanks! Dan

Thanks! I'm trying to sort by capture time or file name, and neither sorts correctly.  file names 3450, 3451, etc. before files 0234, 0235, etc.  It makes no sense.  Same with capture time.  Times are accurate in meta data, but sorting is just wrong.  I'm using a ShootProof plug in that is only used for uploading files to the web. The issue is in the main library folder, so I'm not sure the plugin has anything to do with it.  Any sort I seem to choose: capture time ascending order, file name descending order, whatever, yields a different yet inaccurate sort.  The below sort is flagged, by file name ascending order.  This is the bottom of the list where it goes from file brigitte_terry_w6408... to brigitte_terry_film_0039... to brigitte_terry_w2825...  Regardless of the 'film' file, the w2825... files should be displayed above w6408.  Thanks for any help!

  • Lr no longer sorting images by capture time

    Good afternoon,
I've been using Adobe Lightroom 2 with Photoshop CS4 without any problems.
However, recently I've been having problems with the order in which LR is storing my images.
I work in Raw and always start from LR. From there I open my image in Photoshop before making any adjustments and then saving as a 16bit PSd or Tiff.
On the first save the psd/tiff file is stored as normal in LR - i.e next to the original raw and virtual copy. But now, when I return to make any alterations in Photoshop the re-saved psd file is moved to the very beginning of the Lightroom library. The box around the image is blacked out and against it it has a message '2 of 0' and the phrase 'photo is part of a stack'.
I don't understand why it's doing this and I don't use stacks purposely. I just want my images all on display, next to each other for ease of use.
All my photos are sorted by capture time and even though the files in question are of the correct time it still doesn't stop Lightroom from placing it at the top, well away from where it ought to be.
It's not a massive issue but it is quite annoying when you have thousands of images in your catalogue, and it's never done it before. I've restored LR to the default settings but it hasn't made any difference.
    Please can anyone help.

    Thank you very much.
    I tried as suggested
    > Stacking> Auto Stack By Capture Time
and that moved the psd file back into line.
I've tried opening up a few of the psd files into Photoshop and re-saving and so far so good! They're still alongside the original raw files.
The strange thing is that the sort order is/was set to capture date so I don't know why it moved it in the first place.
    Thank you again. Much appreciated.

  • Sorting combined photos from two cameras by capture time (chronologicaly)

I have a group of photos shot by two cameras (Nikon D2x + Nikon D200) and after import when I sort by capture time the photos are in about 75% the correct chronological order but at least 25% are out of order (when checking the metadata). This is a huge issue because I shoot weddings with multiple photographers but display/print all photos in chronological order. Why does the sort by capture time not work correctly?

It works correctly for me, but others have had similar trouble.
Do a search of the forum. Someone found that setting the time of one camera forward by 13 hours and then back fixed the problem for them.
It's unclear if the trouble is caused by daylight savings time, or a problem with the metadata or what. There are a few known bugs with the time system in LR. I have a 20D and 5D, and they always sort correctly when I remember to sync the in-camera clocks!

  • Lightroom 3 - Capture Time Sort Not Working

Sync of multi camera wedding shots not working. Camera's clocks are in sync. Files in folder will not sort using capture time. Any ideas on fix?

What sort do you see when choosing "by capture time"? Do you see sorted by capture time within the individual cameras?
A common problem causing this is having the clocks synchronized between several cameras, but being off by days, months or even years on one of the cameras.

  • Capture time sort problem

I noticed when I was playing with the many new ways to filter photos in LR that one folder from last November had the creation date incorrectly set in metadata panel. I had 2 sequences of photos, one set shot on Thanksgiving morning and the other shoot that night in a completely different location. When I show all pics in that folder and select sort by Capture time the two sequences are all mixed together.
I examined the dates in the Metadata panel and they were all off by 12 hours. Except that sort by Capture time should still have put them in the correct order.
Am I doing something stupid here or is there something I don't know about what capture time means?
Also, I did have these files in beta 4.1 win XP. And I seem to remember there was some problem with incorrect capture time.
    Dorian

The problem with "Sort by Capture Time" is a known bug, previously reported. Not sure what circumstances cause it, but I see it when selecting "All Photographs". I have a mixture of Canon 10D, 1DS, and 5D files.
Hopefully it will be fixed in a future release.

  • Lightroom 2.0 Sorting Problem after Adjusting Capture Time

    Lightroom 2.0
    OS X 10.5.5, iMac 24", 4 gb ram, >500gb disk space free
I import with Organize: By date: yyyy/yyyy-mm-dd
and File Naming: Date - Filename
After returning from a trip to Australia, I adjusted the capture time on my photos (I hadn't adjusted the time in the cameras). This caused the date on some of them to change.
Now *some* of them are sorting by capture time incorrectly. Ones where the capture date went from Sep 30 to Oct 1 are now sorting *before* before the rest of the Sept and Oct photos.
This means that some of the photos are in the "wrong" folder since their capture date changed. This doesn't seem to be the problem since it's only the ones where the *month* changed that are sorting wrong. Is there any easy way to get these into the right folders? (Other than manually.)

there is a 2.0 Beta forum for this.

  • Canon S100 Photo Capture Time Correct, but Video Capture Time Is Wrong

I have a Canon S100 and just started importing photos and video into my LR 4.3 catalog. I convert RAW to DNG, and the Capture Time on the photos in LR is correct. However, the video Capture Time is shifted forward exactly 8 hours. I know how to correct the video Capture Time, but is there anything I can do to stop this from happening in the first place?
I looked at what the metadata looks like in Bridge.
    PHOTO:
Date Created = Correct Capture Time
Date File Modified = The time I imported the file into LR.
    VIDEO:
Date Created = Capture Time + 8 hours
Date File Modified = Correct Capture Time
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

In general, LR doesn't know how to read video metadata.  It uses the file's date-modified (as set by the operating system) for filtering, sorting, and pre-populating the Metadata > Edit Capture Time dialog, but it uses the file's date-created (as set by the operating system) to display in the grid view.
So you might look for a file utility that lets you set the file's date-created to be the same as the file's date-modified (note that on Windows, at least, copying a file changes the date-created but preserves the date-modified).

  • Capture time as default in LR catalog

Currently added order is the default - always when opening a catalog or LR, added order is selected.
I would prefer capture time as default sorting order and not having to select it each time.
Is there something I have missed?
    Micha

    This is is strange.
I close Lightroom, after closing I looked thru the Prefernces file, and it says clearly default sort order Capture Time. (maybe because it closed when having changed recently used folder sort order to Capture Time)
My import process is as follows:
I copy files into a manually created new folder. (in Windows Explorer)
After this, I import the files at their current location into LR.
When staring to browse thru the files, the sort order is "Added Order"
I change the sort order to "Capture time"
After this procedure, the folder is "always" Capture Time sorted just as I want.
But why is the Preferences file default Capture time and still all new imported folders are Added order?

  • Edits overwriting jpeg capture time

Sometimes, but not always, when I edit a jpeg (it may be as simple as changing a keyword or rating), Lightroom will clobber the capture time and overwrite it with the current time. After this happens, the original capture time can't be found anywhere in the EXIF data, except in the GPS timestamp (it's always happened to me with iPhone images, but I don't edit any other jpegs regularly). Strangely, those images still sort in the correct spot when sorted by capture time, so the original timestamp must still be in there somewhere.
    Has anyone seen this before?

The only way I can think of troubleshooting that is to save the original .jpg before you import it, and then save a copy of the .jpg after the problem occurs.  Then we can compare the metadata of the two files to see what might be going wrong.
