How do I sort instances alphabetical?

Hi!
In a crew list I make, I have to sort all the crew members alphabetical on surname, or more precisely: the XML output has to be sorted this way. Of course it would be neat if the sort function, sorts the instances in the pdf form on the screen, but it is not necessary.
So far I have had success in making the form by using instance manager to add and remove crew members, but I don't have a clue what methods could be used to move records. I have tried different approaches to the
xfa.dataWindow.moveCurrentRecord(1)
but all I understand is that I do not really have any idea of how the it works.
Another question comes along when/if I manage to move a record; does Acrobat understand the alphabet as a sorting index, or would I have to make it understand?
Best regards
Håkon Helliesen

Yoy can read the contents to an array and then sort the array and put the contents back
function sort( {
namn=new Array(19);
namn[0]="[email protected]";
namn[1]="[email protected]";
sortednamn=namn.sort();
alert(sortednamn[0]+" "+sortednamn[1]);
I dont know what will happend with the national character i Norway
if it is a Jet db you also can use a index that is sorting the contents.

    You can't.

  • How can I sort songs alphabetically in iTunes?

It started with iPad and iPod-- suddenly I couldn't sort all songs a to z. They were sorted by group, then by song name. Now in iTunes its the same problem. How do I sort by song name only?

Yes you can just blank them all out. Select a bunch of tracks, get info. and place a tick against the empty sort name box on the sorting tab to erase all the current data in those fields. Oops, forgot it doesn't quite work like that, however I wrote a script called ClearSortName which will do the trick for you.

  • How do I sort alphabetically?

I inadvertantly asked this in the iTunes for Windows community, so I'm reposting here.
When I select Genre, how do I sort the Album titles, or song titles, or artists alphabetically?
When I select the Albums view, how do I sort them alphabetically? They are all mixed up--hard to find what I want.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Just updated to iTunes 11

I posted this on a different discussion, and so here it is copied and pasted lol.
    Hope it helps ^.^
mmickeyfromfl--iTunes 11 is really, frustratingly different and won't let you do that ^.^"
Here is a step by step picture tutorial :
Step 1-Up thar in the top right corner, type in what artist you want (1). Or you can click "Music" at the top black bar, and then when scroll down to whatever genre you want (2).
    1.
    2.
Step 2-If you did the genre version, on the right sidebar area, there should be a "Top songs", click that, and there, you can sort however you want. It works like normal. Idk why.
If you searched artist, however, you can't just click "songs" or "see all" at the songs slidey area (really, anything you see at the top right side bar, don't click it, it won't let you sort because it's a search result list. IDK why Apple did this, but it did )
You have to click the artist's name, under the top part of the right sidebar, where it says "Artists and More" (SEE BELOW)
Once you click that, the artist page pops up:
There, click "see all" for songs:
    And then you can sort.
    I hope that helped!
LOL sorry, I just realized that I changed artists halfway. haha....^.^"

  • Sorting in alphabetical order

How can I sort paragraphs alphabetically in Pages 09?

Inside the WordService 2.7 download folder is a file called ReadMe.rtf double click it and it should open in Text Edit and says:
    "Installation:
+Copy WordService into the directory "Services" (located in the Library folder of your home directory), then log out and log in again. If there's no such folder, just create one using the Finder."+
In the side bar on the lefthand side of every open Finder window should be a little house icon probably with your name next to it. This is your computer account.
Click on it and find the folder labeled Library which should contain another folder called Services. If you don't have a Services folder create one:
+Menu > New Folder > click on it and name it "Services"+
Drag WordService.service from your downloaded WordService folder into the above folder. +Do not+ drag the whole folder in.
Now you will find the contained services under every application (including Finder) menu (eg the Pages menu) in a submenu called Services. There are many services in the menu. The specific services you want are +Format > Sort Lines Ascending/Descending.+

  • How do I sort clips in the Project panel library (bin) alphabetically by file name?

Two questions: How do I sort clip thumbnails in the Project Panel library (bin) alphabetically by file name?
How do I "select" a group of 25 consecutive clips on the time line to form a group without having to click on each individual clip one at a time. The method in the Help menu about "alt" click does nothing for me.

Sorry, I missed part 2. Unless CS4.2 has added a true "Group" function, like in InDesign, Illustrator, etc., there is not a direct way to keep Selected Clips together. However, you can put them on their own Sequence and then Nest that Sequence with others. This is often done, so that one can apply Effects "globally" to that Nested Sequence. [Note: there is no real Group function in Titler either, but for many operations, one can Select multiple Text Blocks, Shapes, Lines, etc., but there is no way to permanently "hold" that group.]
The Alt-click in the Project Panel, for instance, will allow one to drag all to the Timeline, and the Shift-click (or lasso w/ Cursor) in the Timeline will allow one to apply certain things to that group, but the moment that any other Clip is Selected, that "group," does not exist.
I can see a use for a real Group function, but for things like the application of Effects, one would still need to do the Nesting. Test this out by Selecting just two Clips, and go to apply an Effect - you cannot do that. OTOH, one can apply an Effect to one Clip, Rt-click it and choose Copy, then Select multiple Clips and Rt-click on those, where you would Paste Attributes. Not exactly what I think you are asking about, but the results, with just a few clicks, should be the same.
If I missed your intent and need, let me know where I went wrong.
    Good luck,

  • How can I sort lines of data (alphabetically) in the new pages 5.0?

How can I sort lines of data (alphabetically) in the new pages 5.0?
It was very simple to do in the previou version of pages.

I'm not sure why people are torturing themselves with Pages 5 given the nearly universal outcry on this forum and the incredibly negative reviews elswhere, such as the App Store.
Pages 4.3 should still be in an iWorks folder within your Applications folder.  Just use that.

  • Photos for iOS: How can i sort all of my albums automatically in alphabetical order

    Hey there,
first off, why isn't there a a community for the new Photos app?
    Anyway, here is my problem:
How can i sort my albums on the new Photos app on iOS?
I think it's not possible at the moment.
I am using the iCloud Photo library and uploadet all of my 15.000 photos from the last 15 years.
And because of that, i now have many many albums on Photos now.
Overall i love the new app and i love the iCloud Photo library, but i cannot sort my albums on the iOS app automatically in alphabetical order.
I can sort albums manual, but who wants that, when you have so many of them???
I have Photos on my Mac too and there i am able to do sort them in alphabetical order. But it is not adopted to iOS or the iCloud Web-App.
Because of that, i have a complete picture chaos on my iPhone and when i am looking for this one pic in that one album it takes me forever to find it.
So please Apple, fix this and we all can live happily ever after!
    Thank you!

here's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When the library was first migrated there was a folder created titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events are represented by an album in the folder. To open the sidebar if it's not open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window showing all of the albums.
The downside to this simulation is that the Album/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title while viewed in the Folder in the main window or in the sidebar. But they can be sorted manually.
Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

Copy the words to the Mac's clipboard (Edit menu> Copy)
    Paste into TextEdit
Next open the Edit > Find > Find window in Text Edit.
Highlight a space between two words and Edit menu > copy, paste into the Find field
Next create a return in the middle of your text and copy that and paste into the Replace field
    Click Replace All.
Now Edit > Select All and Edit > Copy
Open a Spreadsheet program with Sort ability and paste into the second column cell from the top
place a "a" into the top column cell, select the entire colum
    Sort desending order
Now if you need it out of spreadsheet format, then your going to need to copy just the data cells (not the entire column to avoid problems) and Paste "Special" as unformatted text into a word processing program
If you need to get rid of the Returns, do the opposite you did in Text Edit, replace the Returns with Spaces
A chore, but it's rare one needs to sort words into alaphabetical order.
FYI, I used TextEdit and the free LibreOffice (Spreadsheet and Word Processing) for the above effects.

  • How I can sort all columns alphabetically? in Itunes

How I can sort all columns alphabetically? in Itunes

    I have the same problem.
I've went through the pains of merging all chapters into one big file for each and every audiobook, so that at least the chapters don't get played in random order. Month and month of work….. In iTunes 12.01. I can now order my audiobooks by title or by author.
But once they're uploaded to my blo*dy expensive iPhone 6Plus 128 (which I bought especially to have all my music and my audiobooks on one device) my audiobooks are NOT sorted by author, but by Title.
So, let's say I have 15 books by Ken Follet, they don't appear as Ken Follet > Title of the book but they are sorted alphabetically with all the other titles of other authors.
iPods where originally designed for music and audiobooks, but each and every version of iOS makes handling your music and especially your audiobooks harder and harder….
I am very disappointed and after so many years of using apple, I am considering to move on to android devices.

  • How can I sort alphabetically three columns?

    Hi to everybody!
I've got some problems sorting alphabetically three columns. If I try to sort one column it changes also the others. I want three independent columns and each of them must be sorted out alphabetically.
In Excel it's so easy: I just have to select the column and push the button "sort the column alphabetically". Why is that so difficult in numbers?
    Check it out: http://yfrog.com/j6screenshot01tj

    l,
What is the nature of the content in the three columns? If the content is just data, and not calculations or the input to calculations, you can easily accomplish a single column sort in Numbers.
I see from your screen shot that you are still in the Excel mindset. You have a large table with more rows and columns empty than occupied. To work most effectively in Numbers we usually use only as many rows and columns as necessary, and if we have data that is of another set and not related, we begin a new table.
So, if your data meets the requirements of the first paragraph and you have trimmed away the excess rows and columns we can do the following: Click once on the label of the column you wish to independently sort. Then click again on this label and drag it up and away from the table to a blank area of the canvas. Perform the sort on the separated column. Then grab the sorted column in the same way as before and move it over the original table, watching the borders between columns highlight as you move over them. The double line between columns identifies the insertion point. When you have your sorted column in the right place, drop it back into the original table.

  • Playlist sorting not alphabetical?

Can someone explain to me the method the iPod uses to sort a list of playlists? I can't make any sense of it, and I'm trying to name them so they show in a particular order.
For instance, here's the list of playlists, and how they are sorted in iTunes:
Apparently some characters in my playlist names won't appear in the apple forums(some asterisks), so here's a screenshot of the rest:
    http://homepage.mac.com/ltcarter47/images/playlistsorting.png
Message was edited by: Sean C. Carter

As I found, playlists are sorted in their creation order within iTunes. I use iTunes on Mac, though my iPod is Windows formatted. I'm adding a new folder within another (existing) folder. Then I create subfolders and playlists within these newly created subfolders.
As a result, new folder in iTunes is positioned alphabetically within other peer-nested folders, but in my iPod (Classic 160G) this newly created folder appears as last. As for inner subfolders they are positioned just as in iTunes!
So, I can conclude, that the wrong positioning appears ONLY when there are EXISTING (and already alphabetically sorted) folders, and we add A NEW folder to the same nesting level.
I see the only possible reason -- the iTunes software has a bug -- while synching it should INSERT a new folder BETWEEN other existing folders but it only ADDS it to the folders list end.
As a solution I'll try to uncheck a root-level folder during synchronisation, then synch, then check it back and synch again and then look at the results. I yet not tried to do it, but I'll try today. I think it should resolve the issue.
If I'll have success then what wee need are two things:
-- uncheck all checks at the level, where a new folder has been added besides the first (in alphabetic order) folder, and synch (so we get a folder with the only "first" subfolder) , then check them back as you need and synch again. Now all other folders should be added in proper alphabetic order.
-- wait for a iTunes update, resolving this pretty obvious bug.
The only question appears -- do Apple coders themself use iPods or not??? I beleave they use iRiver :)))
