How do I sort songs in a cetain order in a playlist?

I am trying to make a CD for a bachelorette party and we would like the songs in a certain order?? Is this possible?

This can be done by sorting on the leftmost column (with the numbers).
Then you can drag them at any position you want.
Shuffling for that playlist has to be off.

It seems this is a "backwards" upgrade from Apple in their iTunes 11 release....like you, I used to use that function in the iTunes store to sort through and decide which song version to purchase. (For a large returned list of songs...see all...then sort by any of the headers, including Popularity...this functionality is now gone.)
The iPad always suffered from this...was never able to sort on those same column headers with an iPad. It seems, this new iTunes release killed that functionality on the Mac as well.
Just one of the few things that went wrong with number 11!

How do I sort songs by artist by album using iTunes 10.5.0.142

Hello,
In earlier iTunes versions there used to be a drop down at the top left corner of the music window that I could use to sort the songs. What happened to that drop down in 10.5.0.142?
Can I make this drop down come back?
If noy, how will I sort my songs so that all the songs are listed by artists having the albums together: For example Artist 1 has Album 1, Album 2 and Album 3 together, and then Artist 2 has Album 1, Album 2 and Album 3 together after Artist 1, and Artist 3 has Album 1, Album 2 and Album 3 together coming after Artist 2?

I can agree and see your point. Just wish there was a better way other than "lying" about the album artist info. I'm sure its doable but don't expect it would ever happen. Software is too "mature" now.
And actually, I'd rather see what your suggesting - it would be a great clue to "fix" the art to the same inamge!

After updating my iPad, I lost the ability to sort songs by song title. How can I get this back? Also, when synching not all of my Playlists are exported to my iPad. Is there also a fix for this?

I tried both things suggested and neither worked. This just happened after updating.
Like thousands of others, I got an error message MSVCR80, and had to delete all Apple programs from my desktop and re-load iTunes. Since updating, nothing iTunes related has operated properly on my iPad, or Desktop.
Very frustrating. A service request to Apple results in a charge for service. Very unfair since it is their own update that is causing the issues.

Yes you can just blank them all out. Select a bunch of tracks, get info. and place a tick against the empty sort name box on the sorting tab to erase all the current data in those fields. Oops, forgot it doesn't quite work like that, however I wrote a script called ClearSortName which will do the trick for you.

one way to can simply do this (if dragging and dropping won't work), is to simply put the songs that you would like in the playlist into the On-The-Go playlist in your iPod. Once you have put these songs into the On-The-Go folder (by highlighting the song and holding down the center button), simply plug the ipod back into your computer, and rename the folder with the songs in it. You can change the track numbers.
Or if the songs are in a playlist, click the very first column header and turn off Shuffle for that playlist then you can drag the songs up/down as you want.

Back up your iTunes before doing any sorting. If you remove something you didn't intend to then a backup is the best way to get it back.

How can I sort songs on my iPad by "most popular"

I am in the iTunes store from my iPad 2. I got the group I wanted and now just want to sort all their songs by "most popular". However, I am only able to sort each album this way.

Don't Worry, as long as your music is consolidated in your library, then your information (ie alb. art lyrics blah) will be saved! Just don't delete your music in your iTunes folder!

My photo albums used to be date sorted but after selecting Sort albums, they are now in alphabetic order. How do I undo that, please?

I am sorry that I ran afoul of the user guidelines, I'll remove the rant if I can. I certainly did not intend my gripe to target the helpful responder. And yes, I did provide the feedback to Apple. I'm just used to such feedback going into a "black hole". Which this almost certainly does because this problem has existed for years (I Googled for an answer first.) However, it should be noted that company's tend to respond to feedback that is very public if they want to keep a good name in the business. The private feedback through the program is like a quiet whisper, only the two parties involved know about it, so there is no real incentive for prompt action.

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible.
If you dragged any store tunes into a playlist with an older version of iTunes, they will still be in that list, but you can't drag in any new ones.

For some reason I cannot move them around in my Playlist to play in a particular order say for instance a Wedding or Funeral. itunes only has default orders that I can see. I'm with you verm71; it's not entirely clear how Apple is expecting you to manage this. I'm going on vacation soon and want to clean up my phone so that it's nice and empty for the new pictures. There doesn't seem to be a way to do this without losing your pictures in the new Photos as well. If imported, it's impossible to see which is the Cloud version and which is the Local version. It's very annoying.
I've also noticed in iPhoto you used to have the ability to locate the original of the picture inside the photo database. That option is not provided in Photos, making finding the original extremely difficult.
It seems to be a great, well-oiled system. But I would love to know how Apple envisions the typical workflow for archiving...
