How do I speed up an audio only clip in iMovie?

How do I speed up an audio only clip in iMovie?  I've added a song to a video clip and I'd like to speed up the song.  I already sped up the video clip.

iM08 didn't have that feature.
• purchase iM09 (Disks) or iM11 (only avail via  download/AppStore, you'd need MacOS10.6 doing so)
• or use a  free 3rd party tool, workflow described on my website:

My connected audio only clips moved from below to above the timeline. What happened? And how do I get them below the timeline again?

Repeatedly crashes. What I ended up doing was using a backup Final Cut Projects file and jettisoning this one with the glitch. Luckily, nada much lost. I've had a couple of these weird glitches happen in the Timeline, esp. when dealing with compound audio-only clips & some fx's and rather than spending mega time trying to fix the problem, I bail and start again, and try to be more methodical in my approach.

  • Final Cut Pro X 10.0.5 Create Storyline with Audio-Only Clips in order to add crossfade transition.

Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.5 – How to Create Storyline with audio-only clips. I'm following exercises in Diana Weynand's Pro Training Series, and this function is greyed out. Trying to create crossfade transition. New Compound Clip can be activated however.

Chapter 7. Page 269. Exploring Audio Transitions. Selecting two audio clips, then control-clicking the clips. The dropdown menu to Create Storyline or (Command G) is greyed out. The function no longer seems to be available. I've found other functions that no longer apply with the latest version in relation to the book, and I assume that this is another one. But I'm trying to follow the book the best I can. I know there's a workaround. I can simply select an edit point and add the cross dissolve (Command T), but I wonder if this accomplishes the requested exercise from the book.

  • How can I reinsert the deleted audio from clips in my sequence?

How can I reinsert the deleted audio from clips in my sequence?

I can tell you a work around to get you going in the meantime, just may be time consuming if you have a lot of clips in the timeline.
double click a clip missing audio
press the go to in point and copy the timecode to notepad
press the go to end point and copy timecode
right click clip, and reveal in project
double click the original in project
paste in timecode and set in & out points again
    drag audio
As I said not the quickest way, but it works, and won't actually take as long as you'd think, 30 secs or so per clip, i just hope you don't have over 100 clips without audio

  • How can I change the duration for all clips in iMovie 10.2

How can I change the duration for all clips in iMovie 10.2?  I'm used to working in the older version of iMovie where all I had to do was click on the gear on the clip and change the duration. ALso could use the tool bar to set the duration for all clips. Can't figure out how to do that in this new version. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In the timeline select the clip whose duration you want to change. Click the adjust button at the top of the viewer and then click the i button and you can set the duration. For multiple clips select them all and in the i button type in the duration you want and it will be applied to all the selected clips. You can also change the duration of a clip in the timeline by putting the cursor over the beginning or end of a clip and dragging. A popup will show the new duration.

  • Align a video only clip to an audio only clip

I recorded a wedding with my good camera and also with another OK camera.  The external mic on the good camera failed so the good video has no audio.
The other camera has audio and the video is OK (good enough to use for other angles, etc.)
I've seen articles on how to synchronize two clips automatically, but I think it requires both to have audio...that's how it synchronizes them.
I can break apart the audio and add it below the video only clip, but I can't figure out how to line it up so it doesn't look like a bad lip-sync foreign film.
I'm thinking I could align both clips with a marker on the photographer's flash...maybe that will work.
Can anyone suggest how to do this?
    Thanks in advance
    iMac (Mid 2009) 8GB RAM 8TB Storage (G-Drive), OSX 10.9.3, Final Cut Pro X 10.1.2

Find a well defined peak in the audio (hand clap, sharp noise, etc.) if you can. Select the detached audio, place the playhead over that peak and type M to set a marker. Find the corresponding point in the video — select that clip, place the playhead over the frame where that sound should start and type M to set another marker. Turn snapping in (or hold down the N key and slide the audio until the markers snap together.  If you missed, you can right click on one or the other marker and select Edit Marker, then nudge  left by typing Control - , (comma) or nudge it right by Control - . (period) then snap to the new position.  If you need to align an audio subframe to a discreet video frame, you can nudge audio by subframes left or right with Option -comma or -period. There are 80 audio subframes per video frame, so holding down the shift key as well will advance the audio by 10 frames at a time.
It just takes a little patience, but it's not all that difficult to do.

  • How can I fade in/out audio only below a certain frequency?

I have an MP3 made from a MIDI file in which all instruments are unfortunately in a single track. I want to fade the tom part in because I thought it would be easy considering its obvious separation from the marimba part in the Spectral Pitch Display. How can I fade in these lower sounds only without affecting the higher marimba sound?

You need to go back to the MIDI file and adjust the level there - you can't do this after the event unless you use something like the incredibly expensive Melodyne. This can achieve harmonically related event isolation, which Audition doesn't do. Toms don't just exist at one frequency; they have a harmonic spectrum and if you don't capture all of the harmonics, you won't be able to alter the relative level of all of them - which is what you'd need to do. Otherwise it will sound completely wrong.

  • Re-enable video for audio only clips in sequence

    Hi all,
I've been an editor for quite sometime now, but I'm new to Premiere Pro CS5.
I have a dozen or so clips in my sequence that I used only the audio from a video/audio source file.
I now want to re-enable the video for these clips.
If I double click on them in the sequence it only opens up the audio element in the source window and I cannot re-enable the video to pull it down onto the sequence.
How can I bring the video back without having to go back to the original clip in the bin and re-marking the in and out points and overlaying it?
    Many thanks in advance

Make sure the track that contains the clip you want is targetted; that means clicking the Audio buttons in the track headers. Park the CTI at the beginning of the clip you want, and hit the "M" key; this will match frame the original clip and load it into the Source Monitor. From there, you can add/refine your in and out points, and then drag or insert the video into the sequence. Finally, you can relink the video and the audio; be sure to unlink the audio tracks first, then select the audio and video and relink. That will keep the video and audio as a single element.

  • I need to save the audio only from an imovie

For grad school I had to videotape myself counseling a client.  I did this for 8 projects and now my start up disk is FULL from the imovies.  I would like to just save the audio from when I recorded my session in iMovie and disregard the actual video part.  Each session was an hour long.

I'm not quite clear what you are trying to achieve.  If you have created  projects in iMovie, when you have finished them you can share to file then delete the corresponding iMovie event.  (The movie file will be much smaller than the iMovie event).  If you want to save just the audio for some future purpose you can strip the video from the finished movie files with third party apps.
The alternative is to use an external hard drive for your files.

  • How can I speed up loading of video clips in Elements 9.0?

    Hi,
I upgraded from 7.0 to 8.0 and was unhappy with the product, so upgraded again to 9.0 (Elements and Premiere). Right now the problem is that it takes 20-25 seconds to load a short video clip, i.e. to play it.
I am running with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.20 Ghz/2.20+GHz with 3 GB of ram.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

As a practical example it originally took 3 min to load a 1 hour 29 minute wedding & reception I shot in ACVHD 1080x1900. This was using one disk for all PE9 functions.
I defraged my drives and arranged the program and pagefile on one disk (C:), the project on another and recaptured the media onto the third drive
The same project then  took 1 minute to load or if I do it seperately, 20 seconds loading the program and 40 seconds the media
I can move up and down the full length of the long timeline quite quickly.
I have 2.4g core duo and 2mb ram
This is discussed to in many posts in this forum
So you know what to do!

  • How can i organise my home movie video clips in iMovie in chronological order

    Hello,
    Can anyone help please?
I have masses of home movies that were taken on VHS, transferred them onto DVDs, then loaded these and put them onto imovies.  Perfect so far!
But now stuck, as they have been imported in reverse order into the Event Library, and I'd like them to be show in chronological order with the earliest taken showing up first, so I can use them for other projects easily without a huge amount of working out what happened, when!
    Many thanks,

If you import from a digital camera or camcorder, iMovie will automatically store your events in date order.
However, if you imported clips from an analog camcorder, like VHS or 8MM or Hi8, iMovie does not have any metadata to work with.
In this case, there are two ways to add back this metadata.
The simplest way is to right click on your Event clip and select Adjust Clip Date And Time. Do this for all clips in the event.
The other way is to name your clips before importing to imovie in this format:
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where hh is hours in 24 hour time, and ext is the current file extension. If you name your clips this way, and then import to iMovie through FILE/IMPORT MOVIE then the clips will sort into the proper year.
Sometimes, when you import from a VHS tape ( or DVD of a VHS tape), you get one long clip for several events.
I have found I get good results by chopping up this clip into shorter clips corresponding to real world events (like birthday party, for example) so that the whole clip has the same date.
To do this I use a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5.
I first will find the long clip in the Finder. From iMovie, right-click on the long clip and select Reveal in Finder)
Then drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip.
Move the playhead to the beginning of the first short clip you want to make, and click I for in point. Then move the playhead to the end of the first short clip you want to make, and press O for outpoint. (i and o do not have to be capitalized).  Then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME in Apple Intermediate Codec. Name it as I mentioned above. (clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext)
Then repeat for all additional shorter clips you need from that long clip.

  • Trying to Paste Attributes - AUDIO ONLY. I copy the clip I want - then click Paste Attributes - previously a box appeared with options - now nothing appears.  Only happening with AUDIO attributes.  Anyone else experiencing this?

I am trying to Paste Attributes of AUDIO ONLY - from one clip to another audio clip.  These are the settings for the VOICE OVER on my 15 minute project.  This has worked before.  However now I copy the clip I want o use the attributes from - then I selct PASTE ATTRIBUTES. In the past a new dialogue box would appear and offer me the opportunity to select the attributes or effects I wanted to COPY and PASTE.  Hoever now - there is NOTHING.
I also want to REMOVE the ATTRIBUTES from 287 clips - but apparently I can only do this one at a time?  That seems like the most ridiculous thing in the world.  Certainly this can't be true?  Is there no way to remove ALL Attrributes from all of the clips at the same time?
    Anyone?  Anyone?

I cannot reproduce this. It is working as expected here: select a clip, copy, select another clip (or clips), paste attributes, and I get the usual window - this works for audio only clips as well as other clips.
I suggest you try deleting FCP X preferences with Preference Manager and try again.

Select the clips you want, and delete the effects in the Inspector by selecting and hitting the delete key.

  • Really stuck with speeding up and slowing down clips

    Hi gang,
I have been reading the Final Cut manual for the last hour and fooling around with my clips, but I can't get the effect that I want.
I have a clip (CGI of a star field moving towards the observer) that I want initially to be frozen, then I want the clip to accelerate rapidly, and then end at about double normal speed. I thought I would be able to use keyframes and specify the playback rate at given points, but that option doesn't seem to exist. I have been playing with variable and constant speed settings, but these don't seem to work either.
Ideally, the clip would go like this:
    1) first frame of original footage is frozen for 2 seconds.
    2) the original footage then begins playing, accelerating rapidly from frozen to double speed over 2 seconds.
    3) remainder of original footage plays at double speed until complete.
I feel like I am missing something obvious, but I can't get it to work!
    Any suggestions appreciated.
    Cheers!

Dude, I have the same problem. I found a picture/text tutorial on how to slow down, speed up and reverse all in one clip w/o chopping it up, but it was for FCP 4. I have 5 and when I ramp the green line down it speeds up, doesn't slow down. Is it just me or is the effect changed from FC4 to FC5.
I'm looking for a great video tutorial for FC5 or similar on how to slow, speed up and reverse a clip using the Time Remap Tool in FC.
If it's a DVD I have to buy so be it.
    Thanks everyone.
