How do I start Desktop Firefox in Offline Mode (if possible)?

Currently using Firefox 21* with 64-bit Windows 7 Pro SP1:
If I enable File > Work Offline, then Firefox will not retain the setting for the next launch. So it will always access the Internet (and complain if it can't) every time that it launches. There is no reason to do that, since security vulnerabilities in Firefox are ordinarily exploited only while it is accessing the Internet.
Although I am hesitant to edit about:config I can do that if I need to, but I don't know which line(s) I would need to change.
It would be best if I can launch Firefox with a command-line parameter to start with Work Offline. If so, I could launch it with a Windows shortcut which has that parameter in the Command field. However, Firefox command-line documentation ( https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options ) seems a bit outdated, and discloses that it is incomplete.
If memory serves, there used to be a way to do this, but I cannot recall the method. :-(
Thank-you for your time and attention to this matter.
* PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER TO TELL ME TO UPGRADE TO FIREFOX 22.!! As I have stated in other contexts, Firefox 22 requires me to spend far, far too much time and effort constantly "adjusting" the view and magnification of text and/or of images. IE 10 for Windows 7 has exactly the same problem and I returned to running MSIE 8. The Firefox workaround is a kludge that does not produce a satisfactory outcome. The assertion that we can continue using the Firefox 21 display by configuring that feature is either wrong, or the setting is broken. IT IS NOT A SOLUTION!! If the Mozilla developers refuse to allow us to *disable* this "improvement" and continue using the Firefox 21 display, then we will be looking for another browser that doesn't waste so much of our time just trying to get it to work right. THANK-YOU for respecting my point-of-view even if you cannot see it.

'''Update:''' I have found a command-line parameter which will do this:
(1) Create a Windows shortcut for firefox.exe. Right-click on the desktop, select New, then select Shortcut and Browse to the location of ''firefox.exe''.
(2) Save the shortcut to the desktop. Then right-click on it, and select Properties.
(3) In the Target field, add -offline after the closing quotation mark and separate the parameter from the end of the string in quotes with a space.
Example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -offline
When Firefox is launched with this shortcut, it displays a dialog to announce that it is offline and cannot access the Internet, and wants you to "Try Again". It would be nice if we could stop Firefox from displaying that dialog but I suppose that it will suffice to just close it.
Now if I can make that the *default* way to launch Firefox, that would be great!

In general, you are correct - but also your server does need to be properly configured (and those errors above lead me to think it may not be) to serve the file types that your uploading - but it could be something else entirely. Can you zip up your composition folder, upload it to your Creative Cloud files, set it to share, and then post a link here so I can download it? If you'd rather not share it publicly, can you PM me with a link to your composition files?

  • Firefox - Working offline mode

Can anyone explaine to me why Firefox occassionally switches to the working offline
mode while being connected to the internet (usually via Airport)?
Also, how do I stop this from happening?
    Thanks.

I notice this happen if my computer has lost connection with a wireless server at the moment I am making a request for a web page even if it automatically restores the connection.
As for stopping it, that's a question more readily answered on forum on Firefox's web site since it's not Apple software.

  • How to always start up in disk select mode?

How do I do that? Sometimes when I need to start my bootcamp partition to make some changes to Windows, and I just forgot to hold the Option key, I'll just have to wait for it to boot up in Mac OS, and then restart again. How do I just make the computer always start up in disk select mode, so I don't have to hold the Option key?

the only way to do that is by using rEFIt

  • How to access/open rpd files in offline mode from client desktop

    Hi All,
Please tell me what configuration settings I need to have on my desktop to access RPD files stored on BI server?
In our OBIEE environment, we have BI server installed on linux server, and I have installed BI admin tool on my desktop (Windows OS).
I need to know what settings I should configure in my NQSConfig.ini file on my desktop so that I can access rpd files stored on BI server...
I can access online RPD using BI server ODBC connectibity, but want to access other offline RPD files stored in repository directory on linux server where OBIEE 11g server installation is done.

    Saichand,
    Highly appreciate your response.
But wht I am looking for is how to access other RPD files stored in repository folder on server machine where BI server is running, from BI administration tool which is installed on my desktop
I am able to access default online repository on BI server using ODBC configuration from BI admin tool on my desktop, but want to access other rpd files (lets say sample rpd files which are installed on BI server machine) using (file->open-offline) option.
As per Jay, it seems it is not possible to access repositories other than online repository on BI server, and I will have to copy those rpd files on my desktop and then access using file->open->offline option in BI admin tool.
If you have any other way of doing this or have done this somehow , please let me know.
    Thanks and Regards

  • How do I start-up in Target Disk mode without a keyboard ....?

I am trying to start-up an iMac 700 G4 flatpanel in Target Disk mode without a USB keyboard ... the machine is running Mac OS X.3 Panther & the system prefernces do not include the start-up in Target mode feature that Mac OS X.4 Tiger has ...
Actually, I do have a bluetooth keyboard which works fine once I get to the desktop - but the keyboard will not pair quick enough to register the 'T' hold-down before the system boots up ...
Q: Is there another way I can get this machine to boot in Target mode ...?
    Maybe a terminal command ....?
    I am not so savvy with Terminal - but if someone can step me thru it (v e r y s l o w l y) - you will have my sincerest gratitude ...;-)

I can’t access my documents using Desktop App in offline mode.

  • How do I start up in safe mode

I have a message saying I have no start up disk space and it won't let me gain access to all of my apps and programs.  How can I start my computer in safe mode so that it can run a disk utility, delete, or transfer files to an external hard drive?

To start up in safe mode, hold down shift at the chime.

  • Firefox goes into offline mode for no reason

Periodically, with no consistency I can detect, Firefox puts itself into offline mode. After clicking the "try again" button from one to several times, it finally recognizes that there is in fact an Internet, and deigns to connect with it. I have never manually put Firefox into offline mode.

You can try to create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.
You can right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
    Name: network.manage-offline-status<br />
    Value: false<br />

  • Firefox sleeps and wakes up in offline mode.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything different that I've done that has led to this problem. Same sites, same habits.
At any rate, I always leave FF running. I'm using Windows Vista, and all I do is close the lid on my laptop, it shuts everything down into Sleep Mode. I come back to it, *boom* everything comes back to life.
Recently however, after closing and reopening the lid, FF tells me that it has gone into Offline Mode. I haven't found anything in the Tools/Options to fix the problem, so I have to close and restart. Granted, this isn't a major problem, but it's an annoyance.
Any ideas of what has happened and how to fix it from going to Offline Mode?
    Thanks much.

  • Offline Mode - command line

    Hi,
How can i launch my app in offline mode from a command line ? I have added
<offline-allowed/> to my Jnlp and use the following
    java -Djnlpx.home="c:/program files/java web start" -cp "c:\program files\java web start\javaws.jar" com.sun.javaws.Main http://localhost/tech/tech.jnlp
The application gets downloaded and runs fine. Now if i turn of the Web Server (IIS), then try the above command it won't work. Shoudn't it work as the offline tag is present in local jnlp ? I thought webstart would be using its local cache if the web server is down, as long as the offline tag is present.
With the Offline tag, Offline mode does work fine from webstart application manager even when the Web server is down. Is there a switch to do the same using the above command line ?
    Any response is much appreciated.
    Best regards,
    zap

Marc, thanks for the prompt reply.
I guess its a subtle confusion on my part with the use of offline-mode. From the webstart app manager, i did click the connector plug-icon and the application got launched from the local cache correctly. The scenario is that the the web server is down but the machine still connected to the network and hence my program even does network stuff. Now when i tried to launch the application from command line and still providing a URL argument instead of a path of the Jnlp in the cache, it didn't work. I had thought that either there might be an offline switch in the command line or javaws would automatically launch the jnlp from the local cache even when provided with a bad Url argument. But in the absence of the above, i have now explicitly indicated the local Jnlp path and the following is working fine from the command line in the above context (web server down).
    java -Djnlpx.home="c:/program files/java web start" -cp "c:\program files\java web start\javaws.jar" com.sun.javaws.Main "file:///C:/Program Files/Java Web Start/.javaws/cache/http/Dlocalhost/P80/DMtech/AMTechClient.jnlp"
    Thanks again.
    Best,

  • Every time I reboot my computer, I lose Firefox. Safe mode window won't stay up, after a half hour or so, I usually find a way to open it, but what's causing it

When I reboot my computer, the Firefox icon is still sitting there, but will not open the program. I sometimes have luck opening from a link from another software program, but there is no logic. When I try to "Start/Run" firefox in safe mode, it still will not stay on the screen - just a brief flash. This is frustrating! This has been going on for at least a couple of months, help!

Thanks, that may be the problem ... I just have Windows Firewall, but have recently trialed Norton for about a month ... did not buy it, but it caused other issues with my computer, as well. I uninstalled it, but (for instance) my Flash kept crashing, etc.

  • REBUILD INDEXES IN OFFLINE MODE

    hi all
we got SQL 2012 enterprise edition on our production server, As our frag levels are more we are planning to do defragmentation but when we scheduled rebuild indexs last time this ran for 7-8hrs and drive spaces decreased rapidly so we have killed
the process in the middle. I heard that offline indexes will be the better solution as it will be done quickly and keeping in simple recovery prevents the log file increase. could some one tell me how to schedule maintenance plan  for rebuild  with
offline mode in sql 2012 enterprise edtion or some other efficient way.
proposed plan for rebuilding->take full backup for DB
    change recovery model to simple
configure m plan with offline mode
change to full after the plan finished
    run dbcc update usage
take full backup after all done
could you please help me in this by letting me know is this correct way to do and how to configure plan which rebuils in offline mode
    with regards,
    ram.

->setting recovery model from full to simple is to save the disk space, as log will not increase
->As of now we are not taking any T-log backup due to some internal issues so there will be no issue with log chain break
Frankly, I get scared. OK, I don't know what your system is doing, and what your SLA is saying, but someone is paying a lot of money to use Enterprise Edition. But you are not taking log backups? I can only hope that your system does not have a disaster,
because if you have and you are not able to restart the business, you need to be in a country with very high labour security to not lose your job.
->won't the DB files size increase wen we do this bulk logged
Obviously, if you are not taking log backups, the log file file will keep growing, but it will grow less in bulk-logged recovery. On the other hand, the log backups - had you taken any - will be larger.
Please correct me If iam wrong, could you please tell me the procedure for REBUILD IN OFFLINE MODE through maintenance plan.
If you are talking about the maintenance plans you see in SSMS, I only have one advice: don't use them. Instead go to
    http://ola.hallengren.com
    for an enterprise solution.
