  • Airport - How Do I Start Installation From Scratch?

Here's the deal: After the most recent firmware update to airport extreme, it is totally hosed. I reset the airport but it isn't "broadcasting" so my computer doesn't see it even though it's only 2 feet away. Nothing works. If I reset the airport, go through the multitude of configuration menus, and finally get the airport to broadcast (indicator on top information bar full and in bold), after clicking on the update button after reconfiguring, the airport stops broadcasting and the process fails. So, I want to wipe the whole configuration out like I never installed it before - both on the computer and in the airport - and start all over again to hopefully get it working. Honestly, these firmware updates are not very intuitive and I'm to the point that if I ever get this thing working, I'm never going to update it ever again! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, Smokerz. If I understand your post, I should disconnect the Airport from the Ethernet, plug the Ethernet directly into the laptop and re-configure my network for the Airport? It's funny because I did that this morning before I read your post and I then couldn't access the Internet while being plugged directly into my DSL box. I had to reconfigure my network settings first. With network settings properly applied, should I be able to access the Internet either way - through the Airport or through a direct Ethernet connection to the laptop - or is it a one or the other scenario?
    Thanks,
    Karl

  • I recently purchased an IMac from ebay and the user claims they reset the entire thing before shipping. But when I got it, it has a password protected user on it. They say they didn't set a password up but they clearly did. What can I do to actually reset

I can't get this thing to actually reset it back to factory settings so that I can have my own personal login information on here?

The iMac may have had Mountain Lion installed, but if that was not its originally installed operating system you will not be able to reinstall it without the Apple ID and password used to purchase it. OS X upgrades purchased from the Mac App Store cannot be sold or transferred to any other Apple ID.
I presume the eBay seller did not also sell his or her Apple ID along with the iMac?
Start your iMac as Ralph Landry1 wrote, but add an option key to the ⌘ (command) and R keys when you start the iMac. In other words, with three fingers hold the ⌘, option, and R keys while you start the iMac with a fourth finger.
You will then see a grey "spinning globe" icon as the iMac downloads OS X from Apple's servers, after which you can release your three fingers. An Internet connection (wireless or Ethernet) will be required. After that, erase the internal disc by selecting Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities screen. Then, you will be able to install OS X and set up the iMac as your own.
If at any point during the above you are still asked for an Apple ID that you do not own, you will be unable to proceed without the iMac's original grey System Install DVD. If the seller did not include that, contact him and demand he send it forthwith.

  • How do i reformat imac hard drive and restore time machine backup?

How do I reformat my iMac internal hard drive and restore from a Time Machine backup?
I have an iMac 20" Mid 2007 with a problematic hard drive.
IntelCore 2 Duo, Processor speed 2 Ghz
    800 Mhz Bus speed
    4 GB RAM
250 GB Western Digital Hard Drive
    10.6.3
Was getting a question mark upon booting up, so I booted from a 10.6.3 Snow Leopard CD and ran disk utility. Repair disk was interrupted with an error message. 'Disk utility can't repair disk. Backup files, reformat disk and restore backed up files.'
    1. Should I select Erase, Mac OS Extended Journaled, Erase?
    2. If I do this, won't I lose my networkability, and therefore lose access to Time Machine backups?
    3. If it were you, would you go ahead and replace the hard drive? Not sure I should trust this hard drive!
    4. If I need to replace the hard drive, can you send instructions?
    Thanks!

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
If you have your Time Machine backup drive connected, then you can use Setup Assistant to migrate your Home folder, application support files, and third-party applications and system preference files. I recommend doing this via the Setup Assistant when the option appears.

  • To delete a song from itunes i right click on the song, delete, click on move file to recycle bin, clear the recycle bin but the music is still in my itunes music folder? how do i delete it from itunes and the folder?

Because when i back my computer up all of the music i have tried to delete hasnt been deleted properly so everything is backed up HELP!!!! Please

    Short answer:
Click Hide Song(s), it is what you wanted to do...
    Long answer:
iTunes in the Cloud is a feature of your iTunes store account that allows you to redownload or stream your past purchases. When you delete a purchased track that is downloaded to your computer (like the first one shown here) you are asked if you also want to hide the song from iCloud. This would remove it from the computer and also stop it showing up with the iCloud symbol as the other tracks from that album (which are not downloaded) do.
If a track shows with the cloud symbol you can play (stream) it by double-clicking the title, or click the cloud symbol to download a local copy to your library. If you try to delete one of these tracks you get a slightly different message confirming that you want to hide the track. Clicking hide will remove the listing from the library and any other device that shows your past purchases.
Should you want to retrieve any item hidden in this way at a later date use Store > View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Hidden Purchases > Manage.
To hide all your previous purchases that are not downloaded to your computer use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.

  • How can I delete all of my calendars and start over from scratch?

I am sure this is an easy question because it seems that others before me have probably been in this situation. I wish to delete my calendars (and todo lists, etc) in iCal. In essence I want to start over from scratch as if I had not yet used iCal.
Do you have any advice on how I can go about doing so?
    Thanks!
    Rod

    Rod,
Select the calendar(s) you want to delete in the Calendars list on the left side of the iCal window. Then hit the delete key or select Delete from the Edit menu.

  • HT204053 How do I delete my existing iCloud account (on ALL my apple devices), and start over from scratch??

How do I delete my existing iCloud account (across ALL my apple devices), and start over from scratch??
(cant seem to get calendars to ever sync right, on my devices, and across to my wifes'....so want to start with a "clean installation")

Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account (this disconnects the device from icloud but doesn't delete any data on icloud or on other devices).
If you then want to sign back in using a different ID, do so on the same screen.
I also strongly suggest that you and your wife use different icloud accounts, otherwise all your devices will have the same data on them, same emails, reminders, etc.  Most likely not what you want.

  • I want to upgrade my old airport express to the new express. Can I just switch out the old for the new or must I delete the old network first and start from scratch with the new express?

I want to upgrade my old airport express to the new express. Can I just switch out the old for the new or must I delete the old network first and start from scratch with the new express?

It is not necessary to delete your old wireless networks first, but doing so may eliminate confusion. If you wish to do that, open System Preferences > Network, and select Wi-Fi from the left column. Click the Advanced... button, then select your old wireless networks and delete them with the "–" (minus) button. Make sure the "Remember networks this computer has joined" remains checked.
    OK then Apply.
This prevents your Mac from searching for your previous network which will no longer exist.
A new Express creates an open wireless network that you must select before you can configure it. It appears in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
Select it. AirPort Utility will load and walk you through its configuration.
Edit: If you are really using OS X 10.5.1 as shown in your profile, the above screenshot is not applicable. Instead, select the network called "Apple network nnnnnn" and then launch AirPort Utility.

  • Updating to FF 4 yesterday completely wiped out my entire browsing history -- and started again from scratch as of yesterday. This is an extremely alarming, disappointing, upsetting discovery!!! Is there any way to restore / recover what was lost?

I went to "History" & found EVERYTHING wiped out & started again from scratch after d/loading new FF version. Most people are rabid about CLEARING History, but I use mine extensively. Finding it gone was not welcome. Any way to fix / recover this?

I had this problem but when downgrading from FF4 to FF3.6. I was able to recover everything, so maybe the solution is the same.
    [[Profiles|Find your profile folder...]]<br/>
    Close FF
If there is a file called places.sqlite.corrupt:<br/>
    Rename places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old<br/>
    Rename places.sqlite.corrupt to places.sqlite<br/>
    Restart FF
And if there isn't well...sorry =/. You might want to save these files elsewhere too just in case before renaming them so they can be replaced.

  • How do I stop iMac from going to sleep automatically after 15minutes of inactivity

How do I stop imac from shutting down automatically after 15minutes of inactivity, trying to play music but the imac keeps going to sleep, tried changing power saving preferences to never shut down, never go to sleep, unticked put the hard disks to sleep, automatically reduce brightness, but still goes to sleep.

    Try a PRAM/NVRAM reset.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

  • Creating a Java content tree from scratch and then marshal it to XML data

    Hi,
After binding a schema using JAXB binding, I wrote a class to create a Java content tree from scratch and then marshal it to create an XML document. To see if the resulting xml document is correct, I opened it in XMLSpy and tried to validate it against the original schema.... I got the following error:
"Unable to locate a reference to a supported schema kind (DTD, DCD, W3C Schema, XML-Data, Biz Talk) within this document instance"
Then I realized that the generated xml document didnot contain the following for the root element:
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" and xsi:schemaLocation="....."
i.e, the XML Schema Instance namespace and the schema location.
How do I get these attributes incorporated into the XML document generated during the marshal process.
    Thanks.
