How do I stop a sync mucking about with my contacts list?

I have repeatedly set up the same contacts list in my computer and phone.
All are in the form: Marybeth @ M in the first name field - a habit from long ago!
Either the computer or the phone keeps trying to create surnames or dredge them out of some old historical file - to my eternal frustration!
To quote a highly regarded TV scientist of yesteryear - Why is this so?
Better still - How do I stop it???
I don't use or want surnames in my list and it seems I don't get to choose whether I'd like it as an optional field!
Thanks for any suggestions that will save my ever-thinning hair!

Question:  How do I stop the syncing of/get rid of MobileMe?

If you haven't yet signed out in System Preferences>MobileMe go there: go to the iDisk pane and if you have iDisk Syncing running, stop it. Go to the Sync pane and turn off all syncing. Then go to the Account pane and sign out.
Also go to iPhoto and/or Aperture if applicable and if they have an accounts section in Preferences remove MobileMe from it (not all versions do).
If you have already signed out you won't be able to sign back in to do this. In that event, or if the above doesn't work, go to (user)/Library/Preferences/ByHost and remove all .plist files beginning with com.apple.DotMac and com.apple.idisk.

  • How Do I sync my iPhone 4 Phone Contact List to my iPhone 4s?

I just recieved my new iPhone 4s and I was able to sync most of the stuff from my iPhone 4 to it. However when it came to my contact list we're having an issue. I have a MacBook Pro i5 Dual Core processor running OS Lion but can't seem to know how to get it to synce my adress book with my iPhone 4 so I can make the transfer to the 4s. When I try to sync the contacts it tells me that they are already on icloud but why synced the new phone the Contact list synced was the one on my MacBook which isn't complete...What do I need to do and how do I get access to my iCloud account?

You can backup to iCloud, and restore that backup to your new phone.  No requirement to use a PC anymore.

    Hi Klaus,
I have a problem.    I tried to send a screen shot but was told the image was not allowed!!!   So I'll describe it.
Selecting Glimmer blocker from Systems preferences I get a 5 X 8" rectangle.
At the top is a Safari like compass in orange.
Below it is script ..... Java is not installed.
Below that is more script .... Launch Java installer.
Below that is further script .... Please reopen this preference panel after you have installed Java

  • How can I broadcast a changed email address to my contacts list

how can I broadcast a changed email address to my contacts list?

There is one thing to be careful about though when using the "Send Updates" feature in Address book to notify your contacts about address/contact info changes.
Addressbook will automatically include your personal vCard at the end of the email message that goes out to your list.  I did not realize this at the time and it royally burned me.  My default address card had a lot of extra personal information contained within it that I did not want people to see.  There was no indication that the vCard would automatically be included nor any way to disable this feature just before sending the "update" email.  As a result, my list received my private information and the only thing I could do was to send a new email to the list manually, minus the vCard attachment, requesting that they please delete the first email in favor of this new one.  I'm hoping that most will disregard the vCard, though I fear the damage has been done.
I later discovered that the preferences now include a checkbox for enabling/disabling a "private me card", which allows you to control which content is included in your vCard information.  This is handy now, but I wished the default had been to have vCards turned off / not included automatically, since it was a feature I didn't discover until AFTER my updates had been sent!

  • How do I get a reminder for birthdays on my "Contact" list to pop up on my e-mail, like FaceBook does?

How do I get a reminder for birthdays from my "Contact" list to pop up on my g-mail, like FaceBook does? In other words, how can I set up a reminder for birthdays to come up on my g-mail from my Contact list, perhaps a few days before the birth date? I use e-mail more than FaceBook; and my Contact list is larger and more complete. Thank you. Please e-mail your answer to: [email protected]

Firefox does not have a contact list. Any contact list that you have will be part of the email service that you are using, you will need to check with the support for that email service to see if they offer such a feature.

  • Can I sync Outlook 2011 with Apple contacts in the latest Mavericks like I used to do in OSX 10.8.5?

Can I sync Outlook 2011 with Apple contacts in the latest Mavericks like I used to do in OSX 10.8.5?

I might suggest you send links to download the attachments via DropBox or other similar source rather than include in an email.
    Example:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/vqyrdv4zblhjt7o/ShowLibraryMavericks.png
Have you looked at adding the attachements at the end of the message. Under Edit in the Mail Menu bar select Attachments.
Attachment Tamer might be worth a look but attachements are always going to be in the body part of the message.

  • How do I stop facebook syncing back to iphoto?

Everytime I open iphoto the photos seem to go in both directions ie: they are re-loaded to FB and everyone gets spammed with tags but also all the dates change in iphoto like they are freshly downloaded, not just in the FB album but in the event as well. I thought I had fixed it by having a different event name to FB album name but even if the FB album has pics from a bunch of events the issue still happens.
Is it possible to stop the sync and just have iphoto upload to FB?...I feel like the program is outsmarting itself!!...and me
    Thanks
    Erikka

iPhoto syncs to Facebook (and Flickr, MobileMe). So, make a change on one place it changes the other.
You want an uploader, not a sync, so forget about using iPhoto for the job - it's just not the tool you want for the job.

  • How to stop to sync ipad apps with itunes without loosing everything?

My iPad is synching it's apps with itunes. Now that we have icloud, my ipad already has a backup in the cloud, and the PC backup of my apps is no longer useful. My goal is to stop my apps to sync with itunes on my PC because it is useless, it takes a lot of space on my hard drive (with many apps other 1-2GB each), because it drains my network bandwidth when it syncs, and finally because it makes my music synching with itunes extremely long (because it needs to sync all apps when it sync the music), and all of that without any use.
I tryed to simply uncheck "sync my apps" , but itunes wants to delete all my app and app data if I do so. I searched online and found out that some tryed to let itunes erase them, then use the icloud backup, but it seems that the icloud backup also backup the "sync my apps is checked", so it is not working. I tryed contacting Apple directly but for itunes they say we have to use the Fast Land, which cost money, which is conter logic (why should we pay to report bugs and get support for an unworking product that should work properly in the first place?), and also very frustrating.
I got poor support by Apple over the years, but I now that the best support often comes from the people that uses the product itself, and that is why I am trying to get the answer from you guys over the support communities.
None of us is paid to help each other, so thank you in advance for your time!
PS: Apple; fast lane needs to be free, it's not normal to have to pay to get the service every company in the world gives freely...

How do I keep these computers in sync in iTunes without iTunes re-arranging my iPhone home screen and corresponding app icons?
You don't.  Each sync-able item (apps, music, contacts, calendar, etc) can only have one source.  You don't see it because all of the iTunes libraries have the same apps, but if they didn't, it'd be adding and deleting apps too.  So each type you sync, the one you're currently syncing with becomes the authority.
Since you state that your goal is for all the libraries to match, there's no reason to be syncing them all.  Pick one, designate it as the authority, and on the other two, don't sync apps.

  • How do I stop auto-sync?

I need to get my Mac to stop auto-syncing my Address Book (so that you don't see those arrows spinning up on my menu bar). Any ideas?
    Thanks,

Ok, ever since I plugged my new iPad into my MacBook, my MacBook kept popping up messages about merging my Yahoo contacts with Address Book. I resisted these constant pop up messages for over a week and then I finally gave in and said "Fine, do it!" So then I checked Address Book on the MacBook and it's duplicated most of my contacts many times over. Around 10 times each. I figured it was an error so I went and deleted all of the copies. I noticed this arrow thing spinning on my menu bar later on that day (syncing MobileMe) and so I canceled the sync. After that I checked Address Book and all those contacts were copied all over again. Now it's been about two weeks and each of those contacts has 94 copies each(!!!). I don't have MobileMe so when I go into my System Prefs I can't edit it to stop doing this syncing process since it's asking me for my member name and password. So frustrating!
I hope that made some sense to you.
    Thanks,
    Raymond

  • How do I stop a synced iPad from adding play counts to my iTunes?

I organise my parents' iPad 3 with iTunes, they're playing music on it and their plays are automatically added to my iTunes play count. For several reasons, I don't want this to happen. I can't find any setting to disable it though. Can anyone help?
    OS: Windows 7
    iTunes version: 10.6.3.25
    The new iPad, iOS 5.1.1
    Thanks!

My girfriend and I used to share a desktop. What we had to remind ourselves to do, was to make sure the correct AppleID is being used when we'd each sync. In other words, this was the best way to keep our music seperate.
    Now, for your play counts...
Get on the desktop with your AppleID being used on iTunes. Right-click on each song your parents have 'overplayed' (or just which songs you don't want reflected as your plays)... scroll down on that right-click menu to "Reset Plays". This will set the songs recent play count to zero.
Once you've done this to all the songs necessary, sync your device with your AppleID.
Now, from now on... DO NOT let your parents sync their iPad on your AppleID. Make sure they use their own.
If your parents are anything like mine... but its best to keep our music libraries segregated.
