How do I stop download of website images?

It's the first time I've installed Firefox for Android. Don't see how I can block web page images and just grab the text content. Thanks for your time.

You actually can set the same preference under the covers that you would use on Firefox for desktop: permissions.default.image. Here's where/how:
(1) Open a new tab to '''about:config''' (type about:config in the Awesomebar and tap the go arrow or tap Enter).
''You may want to bookmark this for easier future access.''
(2) In the search box, type '''perm''' and pause while Firefox filters the list
(3) Scroll down to '''permissions.default.image''' and tap it, then use the up arrow icon (^) to change the value from 1 to 2 (from "allow all" to "block all").
If you switch back to your other tab and load a new page, the images should be missing (assuming they are not cached).
Success?
If there is an add-on for this (I haven't checked) that might be easier in case you find a site where you want the images because it's a hassle to switch back and forth using about:config.

Cell data is turned off but it is still downloading.

When you initially enable iTunes Match on any iDevice it is wise to let it operate for a good period docked or with good WiFi.
Best route to stop it if essential is to switch off iTunes Match.

First of all, that sounds like your computer is not secured from other users. Make sure to have the login page come up on startup and set a password for your computer to wake from sleep, etc.
In your Dictation & Speech panel, select the Text to Speech section and in the Voice drop-down, choose Customize...
In there find the voices that have been added to your listing and uncheck them. Hopefully, that will stop any further downloading.
The voice currently downloading is grayed out, meaning you can't stop it directly.
HOWEVER, if you find it in Activity Monitor you can. Open Activity Monitor and go to the Network tab.
Sort the activity by Received Bytes and your culprit should show at the top, with the name softwareupdates or something like that. Force quit that and you will get a notice that your voice download was interrupted. It will be unchecked in Dictation & Speech.
    Hope this helps.

I don't know of a way to stop the download, but when it finishes it will run automatically. Simply quit the installer. You can then delete it from the Applications folder like any other file.

It is Kaspersky that is doing that. It intercepts the content and passes that image to Firefox instead of the real content. You should complain on the Kaspersky forum about this if you disagree with the decision made by Kaspersky to send such an image in this case.

  • How do I stop pop-up websites in Safari?

While using Safari random web-sites open new windows in my browser. How do I stop these sites from popping up?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • How do you stop adjustments to the image when importing pictures?

When I import pictures into Lightroom 1.1 they all automatically get adjusted to be much brighter. How do I stop this? The DEVELOP SETTINGS DIALOG in the IMPORT PHOTOS pop up box is set to NONE. I don't think it's a color management issue as the images are imported with a normal brightness/color balance and then get their settings changed one by one. Opening an image in Photoshop CS3 with the EDIT A COPY WITH LIGHTROOM ADJUSTMENTS radio selected opens up the modified brightened image. Opening that same image in Photoshop CS3 with the EDIT ORIGINAL radio selected opens a normal image with correct brightness/color balance.
This is driving me mad! I don't want these adjustments. Please help!

It's not turned on by default, that I know of. Somehow, yours got that way.
As to where it's located, I would like the preferences to be distributed around the application rather than concentrated in one place. I agree with you that this one should be in the import dialog.

        Pita56,
Let's put a stop to this unwanted subscription. Does your mom receive messages (text) each month about this service? If so, have her text stop to put an end to the messages. Is the charge showing up on the monthly bill? As suggested by tikibar1 you can also try signing into her My Verizon account and check under here features to make sure not subscriptions are listed there.

  • How do I stop downloaded MP3s playing in the QuickTime Browser Plugin?

I have a number of websites created in Flash, which are used to promote musicians and bands in Bristol, UK. I use Flash because it allows animations, music players, background music, and all the other features ideal for promotional websites.
We offer MP3s for free download so our fans and followers can own some of our tracks.
Up until last week, a link directly to an MP3 would launch the "Save As..." download dialogue, allowing users to save the files to their PC.
However, since installing QuickTime 7, when you click on a link to an MP3 it now launches a nasty little embedded Quicktime player, which you can't save from or do anything useful with.
This is absolutely useless as I already have streaming audio and a built-in music player in my site, and I can now no longer offer MP3 downloads. I don't want to have to start zipping my MP3s or anything hideous like that, does anyone know a way that I can stop this happening?
I can't expect visitors to my sites to do anything, so I need some way of changing the URL so that it doesn't trigger the QT plugin.
Would really appreciate some assistance as this has effectively ruined the most significant part of most of our websites.
    Thanks

Ah, well, it was worth a try, but since you're clearly not actually reading my post - I'm using FLASH, as I clearly stated so you cannot right click.
As for the QT Mime settings, what you are saying is woefully inaccurate, and once again you aren't reading what I am writing. Quicktime is not the default player for MP3s on my PC. And as of two days ago there was no QT MP3 browser plugin either. I installed Quicktime because I have to have it to play MOV files.
By installing QT the program arbitrarily (that means it did it without any involvement or permission from me) took ownership of MP3s in the browser only. I know how MIME settings work, and I made absolutely sure that QT did not get it's hands on any of my filetypes. However, there is NOT an option to stop it playing MP3s in a browser, and it most definitely happened without my say so.
There clearly isn't an answer to this, I'll either have to put my MP3s in Zips or use some elaborate code to generate a nasty HTML page so that you can (retch) Right Click, Save As. All this because the QuickTime player has made changes that it had absolutely no right to.
Never mind, I'll find another way. But first, I'm uninstalling Quicktime forever.

  • How do I stop iWeb outputting multiple image files? It makes my site slow!

I'm a professional web designer (but don't let that put you off) who uses Dreamweaver and also handcodes HTML & CSS websites at work on a PC, but having got a new Mac for home use I thought I'd give iWeb a go for a personal site hosted on .Mac, showcasing my music and film efforts, that I didn't want to have to think about coding.
I've built a short little site using the attractive 'Travel' theme, just 5 or 6 pages so far, and have not yet added any multimedia content. However, it seemed to take ages to upload it when I published it to .Mac. So then I went to view it, and it was soooo sloooow to download each page, even on my 4mb cable connection. I know it's a fairly graphically-rich theme, but still!
I noticed that it was redrawing the navigation menu each time... and upon close inspection of the HTML code using Safari's 'View Source' to my horror I found out that that each page has a seperate '_files' folder that contains multiple versions of files that are also used in other pages - including navigation buttons and background images. I also saw that every element has styling applied to it 'inline' in the code, rather than in a single seperate style-sheet.
To confirm this I published it to a folder on my hard drive and checked it all out. What a mess!
As a WYSIWYG web page editor iWeb is great but it's an undisputable fact that the HTML markup and CSS code it produces is absolutely appaling. What's worse though is that it also renders whole swaithes of text as images and that it does create seperate folders for each pages content including images, CSS code and navigation buttons - so even though the same images and code are used throughout the site for the background and buttons and layout, they are written out as seperate files and have to be reloaded with every page!!!
This means that the .Mac server must be getting hammered and webpages are very slow to download and slow to render in Safari - it's almost like dialup when I'm viewing my iWebsite, and like I said, I've got a 4mb cable connection!
Looking at the code iWeb produces, it is good to see that tables are not used for layout, and that's one thing in its favour. But surely the whole point of providing 'themed' templates for users is that the same content is used across the site and therefore doesn't need to be created multiple times - one of the benefits of using CSS stylesheets. Why doesn't iWeb create a single stylesheet and make efficient use of repeated images instead of creating multiple instances of the same file for each page?
Perhaps there is a setting somewhere I've missed. If so, let me know someone!
It is a great WYSIWYG editor, but behind the scenes it's not efficient, it's not clean and simple and it's certainly not attractive - and I'm surprised at that coming from Apple! I know iWeb is a great tool for beginners and I'm a picky professional, but if I was Joe Public First Time Web Designer I'd be very annoyed by this.
Clean it up and sort it out Mr Jobs!
PS: Also, where does iWeb store the website whilst it's in production? I can't find it anywhere?

Your iWeb Site is stored not on your iDisk, but on a file named Domain.sites in your ~/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ Folder.
If , for whatever reason, you wipe your HD and/or lose this file (Get a new computer, Re-Install your OS, Stolen Laptop, Crashed HD, Etc.) without backing-up your Domain.sites file then you will have to re-build your iWeb sites from scratch again.
Of course you can edit your Published HTML files in a different program such as Dreamweaver or even Text Edit. You just can't edit Published HTML files in iWeb. Not at this time at least.
Use iWebBackup to backup your Domain file to a Blank CD or DVD. Backing up your Domain file to another folder on your computer is not fully backing it up. If your computer gets stolen you still lost the file but if you have your Domain file burned onto a CD you have a backup!
    Download iWebBackup Here
You can use iWebExtender to automatically consolidate your files into one folder and delete multiple images.

  • How do you stop downloading file from hyperlinks

Sometimes I click a hyperlink and a file starts to download.  Is there a way to have a confirmation screen ask if I would like to download this file.
I hate that is just does it. It would stop a a lot of garbage in my download folder too.

    Thomas A Reed wrote:
which might lead to much worse future exploitation where installation would proceed without requiring any password or user action.
No, that's not currently possible.  A .mpkg installer package can be opened automatically, because it is just a document opened by Apple's installer.  As such, it cannot run any third-party code without user intervention.  It's possible an installer might not require a password (though then it wouldn't be able to install in Applications), but would still require the user to follow through.
Didn't mean to restrict what I was saying only to an .mpkg installer package (the current avenue of attack this current Trojan is using.) Just meant that it seems to me that where a download of any kind automatically follows from clicking a link, this might be an exploitable first level of weakness for someone who finds a way to write code that bypasses quarantine, admin authentication and elevates to root. Of course, would hope that would be very difficult. But Apple seems constantly to be patching against this kind of possibility, so it doesn't seem completely out of the question. I don't know enough to know how completely out of the question it is.
And, those still using Safari with Tiger, unsupported going on two years, would seem especially vulnerable.
At least, Firefox alerts you to a download and gives you the option to cancel.

Now evey **** time I start it up it starts downloading the whole season in normal and high def with all the fricking previews and comantaries in both normal and high def. that's a lot of memory it's eating up and I can not figgure out how to make it stop. the user interface is user hostile and it's starting to **** me off.

In the upper right hand corner there should be an ARROW DOWN looking circle/icon... click on that.

If you worked on the new version, PLEASE STOP FIXING something that ISNT broke... and BEFOER you redesign something THAT DRASTIC.. ASK YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS for Feedback first.
