How do I stop FireFox from doing an auto update

I am running Linux Mint 15 and FireFox 23. When I click on preferences > advanced > update there are no checkboxs for how I want FireFox updated. I don't want anyone installing on my system without my knowledge. Where has this option been moved?

I keep getting popups to update to Firefox 3.6.18 for mac os x. The problem is that the newer version will not open when I try to preview a web page through Dreamweaver. Firefox didn't always have this problem. The last version of Firefox to work properly was 3.5.16 which I am still using only because it works. How can I stop the Firefox update popups because since Firefox seems to have no intention of addressing or fixing the Dreamweaver problem, I have no intention of upgrading.

How can i stop firefox from telling me to update it

every time i get on Firefox and try to watch a video at 2 min. and 30 sec. it sends me to a screen telling me to do a recommended update and erases the video. I've tried updating it and it still continues to do this, all that happens when i update it is it puts the weather channel and other apps i don't want on my laptop. I've even tried turning off updates all together but it still does nothing to stop the problem.

Relax, they weren't converted to PDF.
You can tell by right clicking ANY of them and choosing "Properties". You'll see there that they're STILL .xls or .xlsx files. The "association" has changed and Windows now indicates that they open with Reader, which isn't right.
Where it says "Open With" under the General tab, you can click "Change" and re-select Excel as the default app to open thim.

How do I stop Firefox from automatically placing the cursor in a text box? On certain pages such as Google.com the cursor will be moved to the search text box automatically after a couple seconds from the page loading. So I'll be typing in the address bar or something and then half of what I am typing in the address bar becomes cut off and starts being entered in the Google.com text box for search. The same happens on Facebook.com and the cursor is automatically moved to the Status Update text box. I assume this is a built in "feature" of the web page, but it's damn annoying. Especially when I start typing in my status update box on Facebook before the page completely loads and then halfway through typing (once the page is done loading) my cursor is moved to the starting position of the text area and my text is cut off.
Just the be clear the actual mouse pointer isn't being moved, just the prompt for entering text.
How can this be stopped?

Some pages use an onload event to set the focus to a text area or search field.
