How do I stop iCal from changing my gCal events to UTC time zone when entering new events?

Within the last week, iCal has begun automatically changing the time zone of new events I enter via Calendar on my Google calendar to UTC. It does not do this for items entered on my iCal calendar.
I enter the date and time (Pacific Time)  and as soon as I add an invittee or click "Done" it changes the time zone to UTC.
Prefs:
iCal time zone support is on
Mac time zone is set automatically (and its correctly finding PDT)
gCal time zone is also set for Pacific
Calendar reads 11-1 pm...
Yes, one solution would be to not use Calendar. Barring that, what do you suggest?

I was having the same problem and spent some time on the phone with apple today.(new computer is under apple care). Tried a ton of stuff with different folks and ultimately I (well, me and 3 apple specialists) was able to solve this issue.
Here's the break down:
1. Quit Mail, Calendar and Messages.
2. Open: System Preference -> Mail, Contacts & Calendars
3. Delete all your google accounts (using the little minus button below your account list)
4. Restart your computer.
5. Re-add your google accounts. (Obviously, keep the calendar box checked).
6. Open calendar and wait for your google info to populate.
7. Attempt to add an event with correct time zone.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Events I created while I was having the problem still had the problem.
I simply deleted those broken events and recreated them with refreshed settings.
I've only had this working for a few hours so I'm not certain it will stay working forever.
But for now it is a relief.
I realize deleting and re-adding the accounts is annoying but it's a lot less frustrating than seeing UTC every time you add an event.
Hope that helps everyone else having this problem.

  • How do I stop iCal from changing my appointment times when traveling?

Once again I missed an important meeting as I had entered it into my iPhone so that event is to start at 10 AM. Last night I flew to this city which is two hours ahead of my town. So what again happened is that iCal just decided to change the time of my appointment to 12 AM.
Why on earth would iCal asume that I would eneter the event into it in my hometowns time? I mean, when agreeing on the phone with a client, you do not say I'll be there 10 AM my time. You obviously say "ok let us meet at 10 AM".
So how do I stop this from happening.

  • How do I stop Firefox from crashing? It crashes at various times, not when loading any specific pages.

My crash problem has been going on for week, now. I tried uninstalling FF and reinstalling it. I hoped that would fix the problem, but it didn't. Crashes occur randomly, when loading or reloading pages but they are NOT specific pages. The Report ID listed below is just 1 of several reports from the past week.

I am unwilling to attempt navigation away from these sites. The pop-ups that occur on the attempt to leave a site or to close the browser are exit traps offering incentive to stay.
Once upon a time, when the internet was less dangerous, I would be willing to close the exit pop-ups. Now, after twice being infected with malware trying to close the pop-ups, I now force close whichever browser I am using.
Recently, I clicked on the red X to close one pop-up, and it installed a trojan that I had to pay to be removed. When I clicked on 'Leave' in another exit pop, it didn't exit and it turned out I was giving permission to run a script file. Now that criminals have learned these exit pop-ups can be used to force a click action, the sites using them have become dangerous.
If I force the browser to close using Task manager, Please tell me how to stop FireFox from sending me directly back to the same site because it mistakenly believes it crashed when it did not. I forced it to close because I was on a site that had taken control of my browser and was not allowing me to leave the site.
No other browser sends me back to the potentially dangerous sites. I prefer Firefox, but the new version must have a setting that allows me to get safely away from a problem site?

  • How do I stop iCal from changing the server path of CalDAV accounts?

I'm using Davical as a calendar server for our family. Some may wonder why I use Davical and not iCloud. I do for one reason...there is no way to disable getting other users' alarms on the iPhone. I want to be able to view my wife's calendar but not get her alarms and have her be able to view my calendar and not get my alarms.
So, now onto the issue with server path setting changing in iCal. We each have our own calendar set up within our own accounts on our Davical server. We each have read access to the other's calendar. Within iCal account settings I have her account set up on my Mac with my username/password (jason/****) and, under server settings, the server path points to her calendar /caldav.php/juiper/). After a few days, sometimes just a few hours, suddenly I will have duplicate events throughout my calandar in iCal. Going to preferences I will see that the server path for her calendar will have been changed to the location of my calendar (/caldav.php/jason/). I'll correct the server path, restart iCal and then the calander will be correct for a while unitl the server path is automatically and incorrectly changed again and I must manually correct it again.
    Thanks!

My coworkers and I use DavMail to share access to a shared Exchange calendar, authenticating with our own ADS credentials. We also see the behavior where iCal will reset the CalDav calendar path to the username (our own) that is authenticating to the CalDav service. In Lion this wasn't a deal breaker for us. While very annoying, the work around was simple. Update the path via preferences, and restart iCal. However in Mountain Lion, the issue has become a lot more difficult to fix. It's no longer a matter of updating the path via preferences and restarting.
In Mountain Lion the solution to change the CalDav path back to the original path requires you to edit the file ~/Library/Calendars/<somehash>.caldav/Info.plist
Contained within this file is a value "CalendarHomePath", simply update the string to your desired path, clear out the 'Calendar Cache' file for good measure, then restart iCal.

  • How can I STOP ical from deleting all my events after a month or so

No matter how I set the preferences/settings it always keeps deleting all events after 30 to 40 days.
I have gone into preferences and checked off the
    "DELETE EVENTS AFTER...
and put 99 or 999 days and it doens make a difference
If Ileave the box unchecked - it STILL doesn't make difference
    Anyone has a suggestion?
as I keep loosing all the important info/phone numbers I enter.
    Thanks
    Bruno

    Bruno,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Are you using any sync software?
The easiest thing to try is to refresh the the com.apple.iCal.plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Quit iCal, drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart, and make sure the deletion preference is not checked.

  • How do I stop GoLive from changing the location of my CSScriptLib.js file?

How do I stop GoLive from changing the location of my CSScriptLib.js file?
I am making rollovers and want my CSScriptLib.js to be in the same folder as my HTML files.
Every time I edit the rollovers GoLIve recreates the path of the CSScriptLib.js to file:///Users/xxx/Library/Preferences/Adobe/GoLive/Settings8/JScripts/GlobalScripts/CSScr iptLib.js so it won't work when uploaded. I always need to edit my HTML before uploading. All I want it to say is src="CSScriptLib.js" as the default.

The site file is a database that keeps track of all your assets (and much more), including the scriptLib file. As soon as the page is saved (when you use the site file and it's open) the link will be change to the correct path that will work on the server.
If you're not using the site file you might as well use a text editor, since most of GL functionality is gone.

  • How can I stop iCal from popping up for no reason ?

Since today, my iCal is popping up as an opened application for no reason and I've had, up to now, to quit it 3 times. It's really annoying. I don't even use iCal anymore since I have BusyCal, which is a better version of iCal, but a totally different application.
How can I stop iCal from popping up for no reason like that. Please, anyone, help me.

What exactly is triggering this, are you clicking on some kind of file?

  • How do I stop AE from changing my workspace when loading a project?

How do I stop AE from changing my workspace when loading a project?  I've looked everywhere and can't find it.  I work on a lot of projects that a peer works on and his screen size is smaller and his workspace is different than mine.  Is there a setting I can change so that when I open one of his projects my AE window doesn't change?

No. That behavior is intended. The problem is probably that your colleague uses the "Standard" workspace in a custom configuration and since it is matched by name, it emsses up your "Standard" workspace as well. Therefore advise your colleague to create his own workspace with a custom name and/or create your own custom workspace to be able to more quickly reset things.

  • Why does the Date Created metadata change when images are exported? How do I stop it from changing?

why does the Date Created metadata change when images are exported?  How do I stop it from changing? I must have a prefernce set up wrong.

I don't know what OS you are using, or what application you are using to view the data about your exported files, but on Windows and using Windows Explorer the "Date Created" field relates only to the date that the exported file was created, i.e. if viewed immediately after export it will show the date created as being the same date. In order to view "Capture Date" in something like Explorer, you first have to ensure you have included the Metadata as Conrad outlined above, then you have to adjust the display properties of Explorer to show the "Date Taken" field. Here is an example, part of a folder I exported back on March 3rd, note the difference between that last two dates:

How can I STOP iTunes from automatically trying to add podcasts to my iPod when I plug it in and sync it, so I can manage the files? I have already unchecked "Sync Podcasts" and "Automatically include,"yet EVERY time I sync it,it still transfers podcasts as the last step, and at other times randomly, when trying to just add some MP3's to a playlist, for example.  I can't seem to find any other option to uncheck, and can't find an answer from my so-far internet searching.

erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.

  • How do I stop iCal from sending notifications everytime I change a shared calendar or event?

iCal sends a notification (not an email) to all users of a shared calendar whenever an event is added or edited. How do I stop that?

as far as i understand iCal it is on the "receivers/subscribers" side to deal with email-updates (and not on the "senders/changers" side):
snippet from my Re: How do you stop receiving notifications about updated calendar events? (there is a screenshot as well):
to NOT get email notification about updated events from a shared calendar you subscribed to you have to uncheck "events affect availability" in that calendars "info" (mac os X.7 and X.8: iCal —> calendars dropdown —> right click on the subscribed calendar —> choose "get info" from the context-menu —> uncheck "events affect availability")

  • How do I stop Ical from stealing focus?

Is anyone aware of a way to stop ical from stealing focus when events are created or modified?  I do not want to lose the ability to fast switch to the app when it is in another space.
I have some individuals on my team at work who tend to edit multiple events on my calendar multiple times a day.  It makes me nuts that when I am in the middle of some serious debugging or in a groove jamming out some decent code, I get stopped constantly by iCal.

I had exactly the same problem. A quick google search presented this:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20085680-263/keep-applications-from-stealin g-focus-when-opening-in-os-x/
I've tried it - editing the Info.plist - and it works a treat. Note - it appears you can no longer cmd-tab to the app once you make this change. But I can live with that
iCal developers - please, for the love of God and all things UX - please change this default behaviour. Or at least provide an option to make iCal less obnoxious. It was the focus stealing behaviour of Windows 95 that moved me away from Windows.

  • How do I stop iCal from ever changing the time zones of my appointments?

I cannot figure out time zone support in iCal, and just want it never to move the time of an appointment when I change time zones. I have tried switching time zone support on and off, and it makes no difference, the appointment times change when the time zone changes. It's infuriating! How do I make it stop?
    Thanks!

    Whitecity,
According to iCal Help...Changing the time zone for an event: Choose iCal > Preferences, click Advanced, and select the "Turn on time zone support" checkbox...To change the event's time zone, choose a time zone from the pop-up menu in the Info drawer. To make the event appear at the same time no matter what time zone the main calendar view is in, choose Floating..;~)

  • How do I stop QuickTime from changing music files to movie files?

I use iTunes exclusively for music & have recently noticed that downloaded files (usually midi files) are showing up in my iTunes library as QuickTime movie files. I usually use Firefox for music downloads but occasionally use AOL, which uses IE. To the best of my knowledge everything to do with music is set to use iTunes, not QuickTime. Now that it's happened I have to go to each & every file & have iTunes convert it to an mp3 when I own a converter that can change all midi files to mp3s at once but can't change QuickTime movie files to mp3s. Why is this happening & how can I stop it?

I have the same issue with Safari opening Web PDF links in Quicktime.  When I click on a PDF URL the Quicktime logo will display in Safari, then the first page of the PDF will come up, and only the first page will be available, there is no way to scroll to subsequent pages.  I have not found any settings in Safari, Quicktime, or Adobe Reader to turn that off.  How can I get Quicktime to not be the default imbedded reader for PDF in Safari.

  • How can I stop iCal from trying to connect to the server during corrections?

Recently, my iCal lost the connection to my gmail calendar (and my wife's), and as I was trying to fix it (by replacing the @ in the server address with a &40-something), it turned out that iCal started trying to connect again - but this time it had lost the proper password.
Now, it says something like "Server connection error: make sure you have the right password" - and then I'm supposed to click OK. When I do that, iCal immediately starts trying to reconnect, and I simply didn't have time to change my password or anything. Back to square one.
I figured I should reboot, but the iMac won't let me shut down before I've shut down iCal, which again can't be done before the "Server connection.."-dialog is closed. Back to square one.
My system is OS X 10.6.7, on a 2011 iMac.

Quit iCal from the dock.   To do this, click and hold on the iCal icon (in the dock), and select Quit from the pop-up menu and release the click to Quit the app.
If that fails, then click on the icon in the dock again (and while still holding the click on the icon ) press the Option key, and select Force Quit from the pop-up and release to Force Quit the app.
I'd go after the iCal server setting via the iCal > Preferences > Accounts panel, if that's not what you're trying here.
And if that fails, then reboot (probably unnecessary, but...), disconnect from the WiFi, launch iCal, and clean up the configuration error that way.  iCal should get a different error on a network disconnect, and should then let you access the preferences.
    The AppleScript category?  Eh?
