How do I stop iphoto from opening every time I connect my iphone to my computer?

I don't really want to sync my iphone with my iphoto. Whenever I plug my phone into my computer, iphoto automatically opens and asks if I want to sync. Is there a way to stop this from happening?
Thanks!

The RIGHT way is to copy photos from your phone to iPhoto and delete them from the Camera Roll. If you still want them on the iPhone add them back to the photo album app. The Camera Roll is a bad place to leave photos that are important, and a silly place to leave photos that are not. It is intended as temporary storage, jost like any digital camera.
iPhone will not open if the camera roll is empty.

• How do I stop iPhoto from launching every time I sync my iPhone?

I have looked for something in Preferences on both my iPhone's PHOTOS tab as well as in iPhoto but cannot find where to tell whatever I need to tell to stop iPhoto from launching automatically every time I hook up my iPhone to my Mac to sync. This is really annoying and I'd so much rather just handle anything like that via the iTunes interface vs. another window/program that has to operate to deal with stuff on the iPhone. It's INelegant at best and just simply a pain in the arse at worst.

You mean I can use this Image Capture thing for moving stuff from scanners as well?
You bet. Some don't prefer using iPhoto to store all imported digital camera photos or any such application (not sure why but to each his/her own) so Image Capture can be used instead which is a simple import/transfer application. Using Image Capture, you can download some or all, remove photos from the camera after the download process, select a default download location or create a new folder in the location of choice and use a chosen automatic task such as crop to a 4' x 6' which occurs after the download process is complete.
A nice simple little application which has some juice for those who don't like using iPhoto or similar type application.
I'm in the habit of rooting around the applications folder and utilities folder with a new Mac purchase so I was aware of Image Capture but I've always preferred using iPhoto for my digital camera import process.

• How do you stop iPhoto from loading every time you dock the iPhone?

I would like to NOT have iPhoto start up every time I plug in my iPhone. I am sure there must be an easy way to do this. Thanks!

There are two different topics in this thread, and two separate "sync photo" issues with iPhone.
1) Syncing photos to iPhone, similar to the process if you had an iPod. This is handled as mentioned above, from within iTunes.
2) Syncing photos from iPhone, as with any camera. This is handled from within iPhoto, also as mentioned above.
I just wanted to point out that these are two independent processes, able to be modified separately.
If you have cleared out the iPhone and/or not taken any more pictures, it will not cause iPhoto to pop up.

How do I stop Iphoto from opening when I plug in my Iphone?

Having the preference in iPhoto makes perfect sense to me. After all, iPhoto is the application that opens. You would expect that is where you should provide some guidance not to open.
What puzzles me much more is why you would post this comment more than 18 months after wjosten answered the original question.

• How do I stop apps from reloading every time I unlock my iPhone?

How do I stop apps from reloading every time I unlock my iPhone? I have an iPhone 4 and at least 95% of the time I unlock it, some apps act as though they are reinstalling. It only lasts for about 3 seconds if that but it makes me feel like something is wrong with it. Does anyone else have this problem??

Could you explain what you mean by this? What is happening that makes you think they're reinstalling?

Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) - In the preferences you can decide to 'Do Nothing' when a camera is connected.
Some versions also have this option in the iPhoto Preferences.

• How do I stop iPhoto from freezing every time I open it?

My O/S is Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
iPhoto version is 8.1.2
Does anyone know of a way to fix this so iPhoto will open without freezing?

Remember this was a test. It tells us that iPhoto is essentially sound and the issue is within your main library.
Let's try repair that:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

• How do I prevent iPhoto from starting every time I connect to a camera card?

Every time I put in a camera card iPhoto starts. Is there a way to prevent this short of deleting iPhoto from the applications?

In the iphoto Preferences disable "connecting Camera opens" - set it to "No application".
If that does not suffice, do the same in Image Capture:
In Image Capture - with your camera card inserted- click the disclosure triangle in the lower left corner of the window to reveal the menu to set the preferences for the device:
Then set the option to "Connectiong this ... opens" to "No application"

I tried changing the about:config line url:blank but that didn't work. Screw FunMoods.

Try to reset the funmoods prefs on the about:config page.
*Open the about:config page via the location bar and do a search for funmoods via the Search bar at the top of the about:config page.
*Reset all funmoods related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.

• Any way to stop iPhoto from launching every time iPhone syncs??

The subject posting says it all: Is there any way to stop iPhoto from launching every time I synch my iPhone? I've clicked this and that, checked this and that. I must be missing something so if someone could help, I thank you in advance.

OR ... delete the photos from the phone after they were imported. If you want those photos to be on the phone, set them to import during a sync. Getting them out of the iPhone's "camera roll" album is the key here.
An easy way is to set up a iPhoto album called "for iPhone" or something. When your new photos are initially imported into iPhoto they will be in the "last roll" smart album. Select them from there and drag them into your "for iPhone" album and make sure that album is selected to sync. Either check the "delete photos after importing" box in iPhoto or delete them manually from your "camera roll" album on your iPhone after the sync. iPhoto will not automatically open until you take new photos.
Remember ... setting Image capture to not open iPhoto, as well as the setting iPhoto to delete photos after importing ... will apply to your camera or memory card device as well.

How to stop iPhoto from opening each time I add a photo using Yosemite

Add image to iPhoto Library
From where. I don't think you can keep it mininmized when importing because if it runs into a duplicate it will present a warning window for you to make a decision in. Therefore, it will always be open when importing.

• How do I stop iPhoto from opening with an iPhone?

I tried to do this on Yosemite but these steps don't work. Is this a bug?
Step 1: Open iPhoto.
Step 2: In the Menu bar, go to iPhoto > Preferences…
Step 3: For the “Connecting camera opens” option, make sure to select “No application.”
Step 4: Close the Preferences window.
I want to have iPhoto not open every time I plug in my iPhone 6.

Image capture is a different application for "capturing images" - it is located in your applications folder - connect your phone and launh it and make this change while the phone is connected
