How do I stop iphoto opening on start up of mac? (not when adding a device etc)

How do I stop iPhoto opening whenever I start up my mac? (not when adding a device etc) There are lots of answers for stopping it auto-opening when attaching a camera, iPod/Pad and I have 'no application' selected for those, I just cant pin-point how to change the basic start-up/loading setting. Thanks :-)

In iPhoto go to the General preference pane and set No Application as the option when a camera is connected
If that doesn't do the trick connect your device to the Mac and launch Image Capture.  In the lower left hand corner select No Application again:

  • How do I stop iPhoto opening when not wanted?

I don't use iPad - I prefer Lightroom.  So when my iMac was updated to Yosemite iPhoto started opening every time I plug a compact flash card into the iMac.  This is annoying to say the least as each time I have to close it making sure it doesn't start importing images into the wrong place.
How do I "turn off" this feature?  No is no help in the iPhoto "help" and online Apple isn't any better.

Changing this in iPhoto alone may not suffice. Then change the setting in Image Capture as well.
Insert your Compact Card reader with the card inserted.
    Then launch Image Capture.
Under "Devices" select your card reader. Then click the disclosure triangle in the lower left corner to reveal the ""Connecting this ... opens" and set this to Light Room or "No Application".
You will have to do this for each photo device (camera, iPhone, iPad, ...) you own.

  • How do I stop iphoto opening at startup?

    It is not listed as a startup item;
it is not listed in image capture as a startup item
I have checked all possible files and folders in User>Library and in System> Library but can find no item that would cause it to startup at restart.
I have read all the earlier posts going back to 2006 but nothing suggested seems to apply in my case.
Also, I notice that Image Capture does not have a Preferences setting in the drop down menu, as mentioned in much earlier posts.
    Any suggestions?

I disconnected the USB external drive but that did not make any difference.
Since iPhoto shows a connected device EasyShare Ai when it opens, I suspected that this was due to the Kodak printer, USB connected, which might cause iPhoto to open automatically.
Sure enough, when I disconnect the printer, iPhoto does not open at login.
Now, I have to find where in the printer preferences I can disable that particular action.

    .

    Depends
Do you have any FAT formatted storeage devices attached to your computer? - if so disconnect them of in the iPhoto preferences set action when a camera is connected to do nothing
Or right click on the iPhoto icon in the dock and under options uncheck launch at start up
or in the system preferences remove iPhtoo form the start up items
Or quit iPhoto before shutting down yoru system
    or provide more details

  • How to stop iphoto opening.

    Hi Everyone,
How do I stop iphoto opening every time I put a card in my card reader. I use Photo Elements and it is a nuisance having to quit iphoto each time. I have removed it from the dock but it still opens. I am new to Panther and iphoto so I am still feeling my way around.
    Regards from England,

Open the Application IMAGE CAPTURE. Go to preferences to select what if anything happens when you insert your card in the reader.
Image Capture preferences determine this setting. Don't ask me why

  • How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?

Hi, well as the title states:
How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?
    It's getting on my nerves...
    Thanks.

    This might also be helpful:
I wrote an AppleScript that asks me each time I connect the iPhone/camera/etc whether or not I want to open iPhoto. Usually I just hit return and it doesn't open, but once in a while I'll click Yes to open iPhoto and import videos from my phone. I just did it because it's nice to have a little reminder so I don't go for too too long without importing, but not have it slow things down each time I plug in.
Below is the script. Paste it into AppleScript Editor, then export it as an application. Then set Image Capture to open this app when you plug in your phone. Would love to hear if it's helpful for you or if you modify it to use other criteria to automatically import only at certain times or conditions.

set question to display dialog "Open iPhoto to import photos?" buttons {"Yes", "No"} default button 2
set answer to button returned of question
if answer is equal to "Yes" then
              tell application "iPhoto" to activate
    end if

  • How to stop iphoto opening automatically.

    Hi everyone,
I have forgotten how to stop iphoto opening up when I put my camera memory card in the reader.
I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I am now using Photoshop Elements 6 on my Macbook.
Thanks in advance and a happy and healthy New Year from England,
    Alan

    Hi,
Thanks for your quick answer but I managed to do it through Image Capture.
You have to have the camera or reader connected then open Image Capture.
I clicked on the device ( name of card reader ) and in the bottom left I could choose from a drop down menu where I wanted the card to open.
    Thanks again,
    Alan

How do I stop Iphoto from opening when I plug in my Iphone?

Having the preference in iPhoto makes perfect sense to me.  After all, iPhoto is the application that opens.  You would expect that is where you should provide some guidance not to open.
What puzzles me much more is why you would post this comment more than 18 months after wjosten answered the original question.

How do I stop iPhoto from launching?
I usually find it's much easier to just use Photoshop to edit my pictures... iPhoto is slow as molasses in January.
How do I stop iPhoto from launching everytime I connect my camera?
I looked everywhere and can't find anyplace to stop it...
    Thanks!

How do I stop iPhoto from launching?
The same way one starts it -- Launch Image Capture, open the application's Preferences (from the Image Capture menu) and change the settings associated with connecting your camera.

  • How do I stop iphoto from launching itself every time I use my laptop?

How do I stop Iphoto from launching itself every time I use my laptop?

    Some possibilities:
Right click on the iPhoto icon in the Dock. Is Open at Log In Selected?
Check your System Preferences -> Accounts -> Log In Items
Is there a camera or anything that your Mac might think is a camera (flash drive, USB Hard Disk formatted to a FAT format, phone) attached to your Mac. If so, disconnect it. If you don't want to disconnect it, set iPhoto to "Do Nothing" when a camera is attached. You do this in the iPhoto Preferences.

  • How do I stop iPhoto from repeatedly closing Event title boxes when I am in the middle of entering a title?

How do I stop iPhoto from repeatedly closing Event title boxes when I am in the middle of entering a title?
This problem started several months ago. I have tried typing more slowly and typing faster; neither help.
It now takes me about four attempts to complete a title of about twelve characters, achieving about three characters on each attempt.
    I am running iPhoto 9.4.3 on OS X 10.8.3 on a 2.93 GHz Intel Quad-Core i7 iMac with 12 GB of DDR3 memory.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
