How do I stop iSync from attempting to sync to a phone that no longer exists?

I recently graduated to an iPhone 4S. I use iTunes excusively for syncing to that phone.
My previous phone was a Sony Ericsson k850 (very similar to W850) and I was able to use iSync somewhat successfully.
Now, whenever I do a sync through iTunes for the 4S, iSync starts up and says it can't locate the k850.
If I go to the option and Uncheck "Enable Syncing on this computer" under iSync/Preferences/General, iTunes get all upset that synchronization has been turned off. I do not have the option to Remove the one andonly device - that choice is grayed out.

I don't know if this helps much, but Address Book was basically the same application in a previous version of the Mac OS. Folks still seem to use the terms interchangably though. Similarly, Calendar used to be "iCal."
I believe syncing contacts with Google or iCloud is an either/or proposition - you can't do both. When you sync with either, a copy is saved to your Mac for faster access (like a web browser's cache). I believe there's still an option to save contacts exclusively to your Mac (HD), but I don't think it's either preferred or occurs by default if you have an account such as Gmail/google or iCloud already set up.
I've never played with preferences in Contacts (Address Book), but I do have both google and iCloud accounts associated with my Mac. Under System Preferences:Mail, Contacts & Calendars, you can specify what accounts do on your Mac. If you have multiple accounts set up, a list will appear on the left side. As you select each one, a list of check boxes appear to the right for each service you want to associate with that account. For example, I have an iCloud account for mail, calendars, contacts, and Safari (among others). I have a Gmail account for mail, although it gives me the option of using this account for calendars, etc. For Gmail, the only item I have checked is mail. It's never asked me if I wanted to sync my addresses with Google.
I hope this helps... at least a little. If nothing else, I hope I've solved the "Address Book" mystery ;-)

Hey folks, i'm new to Mac and keep getting this annoying sync notice that if I allow Google Contants to sync it will change pretty much all my contacts. First off, I'm not really sure what contacts it's trying to sync with. Is it trying to sync with my iCloud contacts? i don't think i have any contact info saved on my hard disk. Second, i have searched the discussion threads about this topic and see posts saying i need to go to Address Book > Preferences > and uncheck Google Sync....but the only Address Book i am aware of is the app labeled "Contacts" which holds everything from my iCloud account. If the music is on the same computer, import the songs to your iTunes library by dragging them into iTunes or choosing File > Add to Library (Mac) or File > Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library (Windows). If the music is on different computers you can set up Home Sharing to copy the music from one library to the other (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620).

I'm not sure why these folks are having trouble understanding your request. I will dumb it down for them. Is there an option to have the iPhone only provide me with notifications when I'm not on the phone. Having my $800ish phone buzz and interrupt my phone conversation (after all primary function of this iPhone is being a phone) to let me know one of my Facebook friends has challenged me to a game of words with friends. I don't want my iPhone to not notify me at all. It can notify me after the call (again primary function) is complete. Going through menus and turning off notifications all together is absolutely silly. I wouldn't want to have to navigate through the menus and turn them off and then on an then off just to make or receive a phone call. Could you imagine answering you phone with, "hey, just wait I have to turn my notifications off so I can have this conversation." every time you wanted to talk on the phone.
So yeah. Again not sure why they were having trouble with understanding you. I hope this helps clarify it for them.

It depends on what type of computer you're using, but I pasted the relevant steps below:
Unregister a computer from syncing
If you no longer want a computer to sync with MobileMe, you can unregister the computer from syncing. You can unregister any computer that is registered for syncing from any other computer with Mac OS X v10.4.11, v10.5.8, v10.6.x, OS X Lion, Windows XP, or Windows Vista, as long as you know your member name and password.
Unregistering a computer from syncing does not delete any data.
To unregister a computer from syncing:
Mac OS X v10.4.11
Open System Preferences
Click .Mac
Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
Click Unregister
Mac OS X v10.5.8, v10.6.x, OS X Lion
Open System Preferences
Click MobileMe
Click Sync
Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
Click Unregister

I sync my Nokia to my Mac using iSync 2.3. I used a smart group made from email domain names to sync with my phone. IN this group are a number of address cards with no telephone numbers. How can I either delete them automatically, or disallow them from being synced to my phone ?

First, make sure that iSync isn't running.
Then, choose "Go > Go to Folder..." in the Finder and copy and paste the following into the dialog box that appears:
/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/P lugIns/Motorola-K1.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/
A window will open. Now, open the "PhoneConduit.plist" file in that window into TextEdit.
Do a search for "charsToKeep"
In the line below the one it finds it should read:
<string>0123456789+#*</string>
change it to:
<string>0123456789+#*p,</string>
(adding in the p and , characters) and save the file.
Quit and the reload iSync and sync. It will no longer strip the p and comma characters.
Apple obviously doesn't know that those characters can be accepted by the phone.

I-Tunes attempts to install on a drive that no longer exists.

When I attempt to upgrade I-Tunes, I receive an error msg that states the drive specified is invalid. (this drive no longer exists on my system) There is no msg code number.
Any suggestions, anybody?

With one of those, there may still be registry entries on the PC pointing at the old (now non-existent) drive. The following InstallShield troubleshooting document is worth a shot:

I have a Motorola KRZR K1. When I use iSync, it removes pause characters from the phone numbers. For example:
I have a number in the phone like this 1-212-555-1212p1234. iSync brings that to the Mac as 1-212-555-1212,1234 . That is probably fine, but on re-sync, the numbers get sent back to the phone with no 'p' or commas. If I add a 'p' or a comma in my Mac address book and resync, it still strips them out owhen sending to the phone. On the phone I end up with 1-212-555-12121234 . This of course does not work correctly if I try to call the number. I have many numbers like this.
I can fix them in the phone of course, by adding the 'p' back in - but of course on the next sync they get removed again.
I have searched the Apple site, and found that having a lower-case 'p' should work fine.

How can I stop iTunes from trying to sync my iPhone?

I sync my phone at home. when I plug my phone into my laptop at work, it starts syncing & messes up all of my bookmarks on podcasts & audiobooks.
Nothing is actually set to sync and nothing actually syncs on my work computer, but the "syncing" shows up on the phone and it messes things up.
It's REALLY annoying when I'm 8 hours into a book and it looses the book mark because of this.
I'd like to plug my phone in at work and have absolutely nothing happen at all. All I want it to do is charge the battery.

I had Opera set as my default browser since this began happening. I changed my default browser back to Firefox mainly because having Firefox open one or two seconds every time I open Opera was/is such a nuisance.
I believe this problem began because I attempted to manually transfer the files from my old computer to the new one (via the backed up files in my external drive). I was unfamiliar with Windows 7 when I did this. Microsoft changed the file set up from what I had been used to in Windows XP. I used XP for six years before being exposed to Windows 7 (I never had Vista).
I'm almost sure this problem has something to do with where I placed the application data when I was trying to reestablish the program set up on the new computer.

How do I stop iCal from changing my appointment times when traveling?

Once again I missed an important meeting as I had entered it into my iPhone so that event is to start at 10 AM. Last night I flew to this city which is two hours ahead of my town. So what again happened is that iCal just decided to change the time of my appointment to 12 AM.
Why on earth would iCal asume that I would eneter the event into it in my hometowns time? I mean, when agreeing on the phone with a client, you do not say I'll be there 10 AM my time. You obviously say "ok let us meet at 10 AM".
So how do I stop this from happening.

I was having the same problem and spent some time on the phone with apple today.(new computer is under apple care). Tried a ton of stuff with different folks and ultimately I (well, me and 3 apple specialists) was able to solve this issue.
Here's the break down:
1. Quit Mail, Calendar and Messages.
2. Open: System Preference -> Mail, Contacts & Calendars
3. Delete all your google accounts (using the little minus button below your account list)
4. Restart your computer.
5. Re-add your google accounts. (Obviously, keep the calendar box checked).
6. Open calendar and wait for your google info to populate.
7. Attempt to add an event with correct time zone.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Events I created while I was having the problem still had the problem.
I simply deleted those broken events and recreated them with refreshed settings.
I've only had this working for a few hours so I'm not certain it will stay working forever.
But for now it is a relief.
I realize deleting and re-adding the accounts is annoying but it's a lot less frustrating than seeing UTC every time you add an event.
Hope that helps everyone else having this problem.
