Thanks -- none of the automatic download boxes were checked, but the "automatically download pre-orders" box was checked. I've unchecked everything on the Store tab preferences. Thanks for the tip, hopefully this will fix the problem.
Thanks,
Kevin

When I run iTunes, it often tries to open in another open User account, causing distracting Windows warning tones.  How can I stop it from trying to automatically open in the other account?

Close iTunes before switching profiles or disable fast user switching.

  • TS1969 What if I want iTunes to run from the other user's account, but I want to work in my account for a while, without interupting what is playing?  When I switch to my account, how can I STOP iTunes FROM TRYING TO OPEN on my side?

We like listening to music playing from wife's user account.
I want to do some work from my account.
I don't want iTunes to open on my user account.
It keeps trying to, giving me the alert beep and the "Cannot Open iTunes" alert.
How do I make it stop trying to automatically open on one account when it is already playing on the other account?
Again, I want to keep listening to what is playing through my wife's account, therefore I don't want it to open or try to open on my account.
    Thanks for any guidance.

Thanks. I messed up with my husbands iphone because I was told the wrong thing. Now everytime I sync his phone it makes it look just like the other phone I had. Do you know how I can fix taht for his phone? Any settings I can turn off that will prevent all of my apps/contacts, etc from auto populating his phone?

  • How do I stop iTunes from trying to connect to store?

Does anyone know please how to stop the "could not connect to iTunes store" error from appearing?
I deliberately do not want to connect to the store - my hard drive on this PowerBook is full, and it's now retired from day to day use and is used solely now as a music system with speakers attached.
Despite signing out of iTunes and disabling the store in the parental control panel, however, iTunes keeps wanting to connect to the store. Is there any code I can type in to stop this from happening?
My question is purely an aesthetic one: the error message springs up every half hour over the enlarged album cover flow, looking ugly, and pings the display back to the standard iTunes display. I don't want or need to connect to the store again on this computer.
    Cheers
    steve

I don't have a good solution yet but I have the same issue.
    Preferences:
    Show = Podcasts, Applications, Radio.
Check for new software updates = unchecked.
Store = all "Automatically..." are unchecked and...
iTunes Store = disabled in Parental control.
    View/Show Artwork Column = unchecked.
Advanced/ "Get Album Artwork" has never been clicked.
iTunes will still sometimes show "Accessing iTunes Store" when it's launched. Little Snitch verifies that it IS trying to make a connection. Little Snitch is a partial solution -- I blocked iTunes but then the app starts reeaallly slooowwllly if it tries to connect. There doesn't seem to be any traceable difference between when iTunes tries to connect on launch and when it doesn't.
I understand that software is licensed, not owned, but I pay for the network connection. I'm in a really old part of town and even 256K DSL comes with no throughput guaranty. I can't have things bogarting my network willy nilly without asking. Especially after I've set everything so that it doesn't need to connect. This is as ******** as the calculator connecting, without asking, with the URL hard-coded into the executable.

  • How do I stop iTunes automatically downloading tunes onto my iPad each time I play them from iCloud?

I am a new iPad user (IOS 7.0.2) but have used iTunes for many years on both an iPod and a PC. My iTunes library is in iCloud and I have also been using AirPlay to play music from my PC through my HiFi system with no problems. Now I have the iPad I can play music directly on it, and also use it to initiate playback through my audio system, as before. The problem is that whenever I use my iPad to do this iTunes (Match?) automatically downloads both purchased and pre-owned music onto the iPad, which I do not want to happen. Is there any way of stopping this happening? Also, like others I am finding the process of removing unwanted music from my iPad a real pain.

Following discussions with Apple Support I now understand that iTunes / Match is not a streaming service in the strict sense in the iOS environment, and that in that music is always downloaded to the device when songs are played from iCloud. Furthermore, I now know also how to delete unwanted music stuff downloaded to my iPad: Settings -> General -> Usage -> Music -> Edit -> 'Red blob' on LHS -> Swipe from RHS -> Delete. Problem solved.

  • How can I stop iTunes from trying to sync my iPhone?

I sync my phone at home. when I plug my phone into my laptop at work, it starts syncing & messes up all of my bookmarks on podcasts & audiobooks.
Nothing is actually set to sync and nothing actually syncs on my work computer, but the "syncing" shows up on the phone and it messes things up.
It's REALLY annoying when I'm 8 hours into a book and it looses the book mark because of this.
I'd like to plug my phone in at work and have absolutely nothing happen at all. All I want it to do is charge the battery.

Have you tried opening iTunes on the laptop and checking the option "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" in iTunes>Preferences>Devices (or Edit>Preferences>Devices in Windows)?

  • How can I stop iTunes automatically renaming tracks incorrectly as soon as they are played?

iTunes has started renaming some tracks as soon as I play them. It completely changes all the info to a totally different cd. The only way I can change it is to manually change everything back and as I have more than 30000 tracks I don't fancy having to play every single one to see whether iTunes is going to change it to something I have never heard of. Can this automatic renaming be stopped?

Could it be something with iTunes-Match/iCloud ??
I've had problems getting "Hide items in the Cloud" and iCloud tick-boxes in View Options to stick.
An occaisional glance at similar topics on these forums seems to indicate that people are having all sorts of funnies. So, I have severed iTunes from the net (I have Little Snitch) and will wait until things clear up before letting iTunes out of it's kennel again.

  • Why does itunes keep trying to download a video that i already downloaded everytime I buy something?

I have an episode of the Torchwood series downloaded, but haven't watched it yet.  Lately, everytime I buy a song off of the iTunes store, when it starts downloading the song, it starts downloading the Torchwood video again.  How can I stop it from trying to download the video?

This still doesn't work for me because the next time I sync it trys to reinstall them again.
Then you're doing something wrong, perhaps you need step-by-step instructions.
    Re-read my post carefully. Follow the instructions, carefully - that is;
To leave the App on your phone
Connect your iPhone to your iTunes Library
Look on the Device/Apps pane (tab). In other words, in the left hand window of your iTunes, you will see Devices listed once you plug in your iPhone and under that list of devices will be your phone. Select that device (your phone).
On the Device panes, look at the top menu bar for the Apps. Select Apps.
On the Apps pane, you will see the tick-box Sync Apps and below it is a list of Apps in your iTunes Library. To the right is your iPhone and the Apps on the iPhone.
In the left section - the list of Apps in your iTunes Library - untick the App you wish to remove
Press the Sync button for these changes to take effect.
That's it. At the next Sync, that App will not be put back on your iPhone, because it still isn't ticked "on" in your iTunes Library.

How can I STOP iTunes from automatically trying to add podcasts to my iPod when I plug it in and sync it, so I can manage the files? I have already unchecked "Sync Podcasts" and "Automatically include,"yet EVERY time I sync it,it still transfers podcasts as the last step, and at other times randomly, when trying to just add some MP3's to a playlist, for example.  I can't seem to find any other option to uncheck, and can't find an answer from my so-far internet searching.

erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically importing songs I listen to from my external hard drive into the music library?

How do I stop iTunes from automatically importing songs I listen to from my external hard drive into the music library?

    Mac OS X: Double-Clicking a File Opens the Wrong Application - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2291
-= Changing the application used to open all files of a certain kind (written with reference to OSX 10.4 but may not have changed) =-
    1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
    2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
    3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
    4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more.  Close the get info window.
    5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).
    6) If you wish to change all files of this type to open with this application in future, make sure the "change all" button is selected.
    7) Close the get info window.

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically sorting by Album Artist?  Driving me crazy.

How do I stop iTunes from automatically sorting by Album Artist?  Driving me crazy.
I listen to primarily classical music
All of my music was very deliberatley titled by composers "Last Name, First Name" as the artist.
iTunes is changing it to the Album Artist.  I have to go in and delete that information - AND THEN IT LATER REVERTS IT BACK!!!
Hours have been wasted and I am feeling so ticked.
    Any help?

    Purchased or ripped media?
If these are ripped mp3s then another possibility is multiple embedded tags. iTunes works best with a single ID3v2.3 tag. Some software creates both an ID3v1.0 and IDv2.x tag. With multiple tags it is not certain which iTunes reads or which it updates, and any device may choose differently. Once songs have the correct info. in iTunes you can use Convert ID3 Tags... None several times, then Convert ID3 Tags... v2.3. The process removes any embedded art but otherwise preserves the data that iTunes knows. You could use my script CreateFolderArt before and after to save and then restore the artwork.
In the long run you may be better off populating Album Artist properly with a copy of whatever is currently in Artist. My script CopyArtistToAlbumArtist can do this effectively.

  • How do I stop Itunes from automatically starting?

Itunes automatically turns on when the computer is powered up, but Itunes is not in the startup folder.
How do I stop Itunes from auto starting?

10 minutes later: iTunes will not startup if the iPod is not plugged in upon boot up. If the system sees the iPod plugged in upon boot, then system will start. This seems to be done with the help of iTuneshelper.exe and /or iPodService.exe. if you don’t want iTunes to start automatically when the system boots do not have your iPod plugged in. if you want to be able to keep the iPod plugged in then you are going to have to msconfig at the start run command and stop the iTuneshelper.exe in the startup service area. This should stop the iTunes from starting up when the unit is plugged in and you are booting up. Sorry for the long sentences but thats a possiable fix, enjoy.

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically changing artist, album.....?

How do I stop iTunes from automatically changing artist, album, and genre names?
I keep my itunes library folder very organized. You wont find the same artist spelled two different ways in it. But itunes automatically changes the artists, album names, and genres for whatever reason, making it so I have to edit my library all over again.

    No, don't check it!
That is the only setting that would let itunes change file names. Read right underneath it - itunes will create files & folders based on artist & album name.
Something else must be changing your files, then - not iTunes.
Every PC comes with WIndows Media Player. Go into that and uncheck the options to retreive internet info for albums. It's in 2 places, on the Library tab and the Privacy tab.
