How do I stop iTunes from syncing purchased music?

Every time I sync my iPhone, purchased music is going back onto the phone. This is such an odd problem. I have 'manually manage music' selected. Nothing else gets automatically synced but my purchased music.
Also, sometimes, when I delete music from my iPhone, and I click 'sync' and then 'done,' in the iTunes window, it shows up as deleted, but the music is still on my iPhone!
Strange! My iPhone (iPhone 5) and my iTunes (both completely up to date) are acting weirder and weirder. Could it be that I'm on a 4-year-old MacBook Pro?

Hello phil.winter,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to remove your music from your iPhone but are thus far unsuccessful. I know that you have already unchecked the Sync Music box and report that the music remained on your iPhone, but did you click the Apply button in the bottom right hand corner of iTunes after you unchecked that box? If not please try this step and let me know if the issue continues.
Sync your iPhone, iPad, and iPod with iTunes using USB - Apple Support
Click the Sync button in the lower-right corner of the screen to sync your content. Only the information in the content list you've enabled syncing for will sync to your computer. If you made any changes to any of the settings, first click the apply button.
Have a great day,
Joe

  • How can I stop iTunes from transferring purchased apps from iPad to computer?

How can I stop iTunes from transferring purchased apps from iPad to my computer? I don't want them taking up space on my computer. iPad backups and apps on the cloud are enough to ensure my apps are backed up, so I don't understand why they need to be on iTunes too. I'm running Mavericks, iTunes 11.1.5 and iOS 7.0.6.

There isn't an app for that!
As far as I can tell there is no option to give you that control. It is worth noting that apps can be withdrawn from the store at any time. Should your device need restoring you need all the apps in your library to transfer to it before the app data can be successfully restored. Pulling that all down from the cloud would be time consuming.
If space is becoming an issue you should consider moving the library to a bigger drive (which you should also backup to another).
As a temporary measure you could try deleting some larger apps using Finder from within iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications while keeping the entries in your library. iTunes may complain during syncs that it cannot copy apps to the device because they cannot be found, but it should not clear them from the device. Test first on a single app that doesn't have any data that you would mind losing in case the behavior has changed from the last time I tested it.

  • How do you stop ITunes from syncing automatically every time I attach a device?

I have the option box checked that is supposed to stop devices from syncing automatically, yet ITunes STILL insists on syncing the devices automatically and overwriting gigabytes of data.  I've had to spend hours finding everything again after ITunes has synced when I don't want it to.  Needless to say, this is INCREDIBLY frustrating.

I no longer need an answer to this question. I didn't directly solve the problem but it solved when I was fixing something else.

  • How do I stop itunes from creating a 'Music' folder inside my music folder?

I'm trying to set up my library on a new computer and I'm running into a very BIG problem.
Previously, I had let iTunes manage the directory structure, which in my opine does quite well: Artist / Album / Song. Trying to import the library into the new computer is causing a new folder to appear at the Artist level, called 'Music', and the artist directories are moved under it as they get imported.
This makes no sense to me. The versions of iTunes are the same: 9.0.2 - and this was NOT done whenever I imported a CD. The settings are the same - I like the settings a certain way and I made sure of that. The 'let itunes mange...' is checked on the new computer just like it was on the old. But the new computer is refusing to let the music stay in the same structure as the old one did.
The only real difference I can think of is that I'm trying to import the directory containing the structure, rather than importing them disc by disc, and that I'm trying to import the library from the library directory itself (ie: importing c:\itunes when the library is also sourced at c:\itunes). But I've done this before with previous versions of itunes without this problem occurring. How come the old versions knew how to handle this as expected, but the new one doesn't?
And most importantly - How do I stop it from happening now?

Reading through that article - there's two important pieces of information.
1 - It says that you have to select "Upgrade to iTunes Media organization" in order to enable this so-called feature, which is still unchecked on my machine (ie: I didn't do it).
2 - It says that it's enabled by default in iTunes 9.
Kinda conflicting there, it still says it ISN'T enabled on my PC but I apparently have to deal with it anyway. Why bother pretending to give me a choice at all if it's just going to be enabled by default?
I'm gonna go wipe itunes now and start at version 8 - maybe the upgrade path will keep my directories the way I like them instead of itunes lying to me about the new media layout.

  • How do I stop iTunes from syncing my gmail emails to my iPhone 4S?

I tried deselecting my gmails from the list from the "Info" tab in iTunes, hit the "Apply" button and after a while the gmails on the list are selected and greyed out. The gmails show up in my iPhone 4S running the latest software. Any way to stop this from happening?

on the iPhone select Preferences > Mail,Contacts, Calender.
Remove your gmail account from the accounts list. This will stop it appearing on the phone but not affect anything else

  • How do I stop iTunes from arrangin my music in folders?

I just got a MB Pro and tried putting my music into iTunes. It keeps putting them in folders by artist, but I do not want this because they are all tittled right, but not tgged right, so if I can not find it with iTunes tagging, i want to go to the folder and see them all alphabetically by title.
I changed the iTunes option under advanced by unchecking "Keep i tunes music organized" before I added the files to the library, but that did not work apparently.
    So,
    3 questions:
    1. Can I undo the process that has already been done by removing the songs from all of the different folders or do I have to transfer everything agian?
    2. How do I stop it form happening agian if I have to retrnsfer?
    3. Is there a way for iTunes to not sort by tags and just list songs by the titles?
    Thanks,
    Mike

they are all tittled right, but not tgged right
Typically this is from PtP files that have been downloaded over some kind of file stealing program, but that fact aside, iTunes does a very good job of managing your music based on the tag data. Rather than continuing the method that depends on the song names, I would recommend fixing the tag data so you can let iTunes do its job. There are several third party programs that will help with this... the one I've had the best luck with is MusicBrainz, so you might want to give that a try, and then sit back and not worry about it any more, since iTunes does a very good job once the tabs are fixed.

  • How do I stop iTunes from copying my music to the iTunes music file?

We have an Intel iMac running Tiger with a 146 GB hard drive, so imagine my shock when I discovered that we only had 2gb of space left! We are a family and have 5 users with 5 different iTunes libraries on each of our log ins. So I made a Shared Music folder for all our music that we could take songs from. I worked out that iTunes copies any music that you have into a new folder, meaning that we had 6 times the music we needed. So instead of 10gb of music in one Shared Music folder that I created, there was 60 gb of mostly copies.
So how do I make it so that we only have one folder with our music in, rather than 5 with 6 copies of the songs that we don't need?
Basically, I want to stop it from creating the iTunes music folder.

Turn off the option to automatically copy music to the iTunes music folder in the Advanced section of the iTunes preferences, place all the music in a shared location, and create new libraries as needed.

  • How do i stop itunes from syncing all my music to iphone

I have a problem where I have all my music syncing on to my iPhone even when "sync music" is unchecked in the iTunes application.
The data bar at the bottom of the screen shows that the sync worked (increased data amounts become available) but the music is still on the iphone.
I have even deleted music off my laptop but it still shows on the iPhone.
I've read the discussions on similar issues but can't seem to find a remedy. I discovered this problem when I needed to create some free space on the phone to add an app update. I decided to just keep my Top Rated music on the phone but as I say, everything is still there. The sync's seem to work.
Any ideas please. I've spent a fair amount of time already on this.
I am using ms notebook. iphone 5 with latest software (iOS 8.1.3).
Hope someone has some ideas. Thanks.

  • How do I stop itunes from also deleting music from my iphone or ipad when I delete it on itunes on my macbook pro?

I noticed that when I delete music or a movie from my macbook pro's itunes, the minute I connect the iphone or ipad, it automaticly removes the song from the devices. I am new to Mac so I am not sure how to prevent this from occuring. I know that when I was using my Windows PC to sync my devices, on the PC's itunes I could set it up to where I would be able to add or delete music to the devised manually without this worry. If anyone can offer me some help, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

  • Stop Itunes from syncing contacts

How do i stop Itunes from syncing my contacts with my phone?

I have a solution for you!
I was having the same issue.  I copied albums to my iPhone and then I was deleting songs that I didn't like. But then when I Synched with iTunes, the songs would reapear.  I complained about it to my husband, and he explained that iTunes was just trying to "complete" my albums.  Because in the sync setting I said I wanted that particular album.
Here's the solution.  Don't move the songs or the albums directly to your iDevice. Instead make a playlist and call it something like "My iPod Music" or "On the go".  Add your albums and individual songs to the playlist and then move the playlist to your iPod.  When you sync your playlist everything will be transferred over to your iPod. Including the Artist and Album information. But when you delete items from the playlist, they stay deleted.
One last thing, make sure you unclick all the albums in the iPod Music Sync window.
This worked with my iPhone 4S running iOS 6.01

How can I STOP iTunes from automatically trying to add podcasts to my iPod when I plug it in and sync it, so I can manage the files? I have already unchecked "Sync Podcasts" and "Automatically include,"yet EVERY time I sync it,it still transfers podcasts as the last step, and at other times randomly, when trying to just add some MP3's to a playlist, for example.  I can't seem to find any other option to uncheck, and can't find an answer from my so-far internet searching.

erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.

  • How do I stop itunes from transferring apps from my ipad or iphone to my pc ?

How do I stop iTunes from transferring apps from my iPad or iPhone to my PC ? I have App sync turn off and I have add files to library turned off. Yet every time
I sync iTunes transfers all my apps to my PC. I have 20-30 gig of apps on each. A lot of them are 1gig each and it takes for ever to sync , plus I don't want 100 gig of apps just sitting on my hard drive for no reason. Any app I ever want is always available in the cloud so what's the point of having them on my PC in the 1st place?

I'm pretty sure that the space is used up on your computer's hardrive.
Anyway my solution to this nuisance of apps/itunes transfer was to allow itunes to download the apps from my phone...
...First of all I had tried to uncheck a few boxes in itunes a) automatically sync when device is connected (in the summary section) b) prevent devices from syncing (edit>preferences>devices) and c) Automatically sync new apps (apps section of device)
HOWEVER, when I would click sync in any section, apps tried to transfer to itunes from my iphone.
So after all my apps went on my computer (approx. 9 GB), I checked the boxes back, disconnected my device and deleted all the apps from itunes and my computer simultaneously (by clicking del/move to recycle bin).
Now when I connect my iphone it does it's backup/sync thing automatically ...but no apps try to transfer
Note: apps from your library cannot be set to sync with your device
I can now also click sync in any section and no apps transfer.
(This problem started when I downloaded an app from itunes rather than my device and I later transfered the app to my device. My apps section in itunes is completely empty now and no apps appear in windows explorer either)
the only thing I am unsure of now is; what's going to happen if I purchase an app from itunes on my pc again ...I'm guessing I'll have to repeat the process (might want to avoid that)
