How do I stop MacMail defaulting to Yahoo in OS Mavericks?

I can no longer access BT mail accounts through MacMail on a Macbook with OS 10.9.4, Mavericks. Until now BT mail was linked to Yahoo, and when this MacMail was first set up our mail accounts (2 POP accounts) obviously went through Yahoo. This link has now been broken and the Yahoo server rejects our passwords. However, when I've tried to change the Mail accounts to BT only ones, they keep defaulting back to Yahoo, either Yahoo POP or Yahoo Imap. Does anyone know how to change this and stop the default happening?
Strangely this doesn't happen on older Macs (with snow leopard) as the POP accounts were not tied to Yahoo. When BT split from Yahoo we were told that we wouldn't notice any change, that everything would all happen automatically, but this obviously ain't so.
Very grateful for any suggestions.

There are some methods to do that, but the most classic is to mute the volume before turning off your computer, so the startup sound won't appear.

Andrew: how do you train Yahoo mail to start putting spam in the proper folder and what folder is the folder? also I went into my iPhone and there was about 10 junk emails so i went into my yahoo mail and deleted all of them in my inbox and spam/bulk mail box and erased all of them and then emptied my trash even and i then hooked up the iphone and itunes came up ofcourse and did its thing and the emails are still in the iPhone. ???

Using parallels how do you stop the default from opening in excel mac

That is a simple WIndows setting you need to adjust. Your Parallels seems to have changed the default "open with" program in your windows installation. The way to fix it depends upon your version of Windows, but you can probably get there my holding down teh shift key and clicking the right mouse button on the file you are trying to open. Doing that should add a new line to the right-click menu "Open with..." select that and in the pop-up select your windows app you want to use, and check the checkbox to make it the default app for that file extension.

How can I stop bleeding edges in yahoo when I use a larger font?

I'd like to use firefox with my new mac air, and I like to use a 14 to 16 pt font size for my old eyes. It seems to work fine with most of my favorite websites -- except for yahoo mail. There is bleeding edges and whatnot. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

I will check out that extension, thanks. I do have the minimum font size increased, and do realize it can cause issues, but that's really only a problem for me in Yahoo. Facebook, hotmail, etc work fine with minimum font increased --- but not yahoo mail.
When I use Safari, yahoo and the rest of the websites also work fine with minimum font increased ('fine' meaning some imperfections, but nothing bothersome.)
So, best I can tell, only Yahoo and only firefox is a problem. Which is a problem for me since I use yahoo mail alot and like firefox.
Is there no fix for this issue without using an extension?

How do you stop IOS6 defaulting to Facebook messages?

Hi,
Whenever I try to send a new message, if I add a contact using the 'plus' symbol and that person has synced with their facebook account, it automatically sends an MMS to facebook and not to their phone number - I can't see any option for choosing.
I've just sent one big message to all my contacts in one go with my new number and because a few of them were on facebook, it sent a mass MMS
Anybody else had this problem?

This is a scam. You shouldn't have given any info.
1. Force Quit .
    Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
    When Force Quit window appears, select the Safari if not already.
    Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window.   Wait.
    Safari will quit.
    Relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.
2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
    Turn those off and relaunch Safari again.
    Turn those on one by one and test.
3. Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
    Press “Remove all website data” button.

How can I create a default dock for all users (Mavericks)?

I would like to modify the dock to display specific installed applications.
I then want this dock to be the default dock for any users that log in.
OS is Mavericks.
All users are AD users.
No server management.
We use Deep Freeze to revert the Mac to the way we set it up.
I can find info for previous versions of OSX; basically just copying the plist, but I can't find anything that works for Mavericks.
Any help would be appreciated!

You could set up a user template for new user accounts, but you can’t stop individual users from modifying their Dock to suit their needs.
I don’t know how to modify the user template, so you’ll have to google for it.

I have transfered my library my library to a NAS drive. How do I stop Itunes from creating the default folder on the local drive?

I've transferred my Itunes Media Library to a NAS drive, and pointed Itunes (using the advanced preferences tab) to the relevant folder on the NAS drive. I have done this to free up disk space on a computer I primarily use for work but which I use both at home and at work. The NAS drive is at home. (To clarify, I am not expecting Itunes to function at work, only at home when access to the NAS drive is available).
Under certain circumstances Itunes will start-up at work and when it does it will create the folder structure for the Itunes Media Library in the default location (on the local drive) instead of looking for the location I have specified (the NAS drive) which it should not be able to find when I am at work and telling me that it can't find it (which would be fine).
How do I stop Itunes from recreating the default folder structure and defaulting the file path to the standard media library location on my local drive? Every time this happens I have to re-point Itunes to the NAS drive location, which often requires me to reconsolicate libraries which is tedious and time consuming. It seems that in the process of one of these consolidations I have lost some of the media files. They are still in the library (ie. visible in the Itunes window) but Itunes can't find the media associated with that file - identifying them with an excamation mark "!".
Any help with this would be appreciated, as I have read several forums and threads, and despite trying several different approaches I have been unable to address the problem, which appears to be exacerbated by the laptop being remote from the NAS drive.

iTunes will start up and you will have an empty library.

Yes.
Quit iTunes.
Copy the /Music/iTunes/ folder on the NAS.
Move the /iTunes media/ folder currently on the NAS into the /iTunes/ folder you just copied to the NAS.
Hold Option, launch iTunes, select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the NAS.
You can delete /Music/iTunes/ folder on the internal drive.
If you launch iTunes while NOT comnnected to the NAS, iTunes will recreate the /Music/iTunes/ folder and you will have an empty library.
WHen you are again connected to the NAS, just do step 4 above.
Do you know what the advantages and disadvantages are of having the database files like the ".itl" files stored locally versus on the NAS?
Keeping everyhing together inside the iTunes folder makes it "cleaner" and simpler to manage everything.

The only place I use my Ipod Touch is in my car that has an iPod connection and the steering wheel controls, but I mostly listen to audio books with the audible app. Everytime I get in my car instead of the iPod just picking up where it left off with the audible app it picks up playing whatever was last listened to with the default music player. There is nothing yo can do to return to the app you want.
You can't delete the apps that came with the iPod. Except for NewsbStand, you can put the apps you do not want into one folder and move it to the last screen

How do I change Default search engine in the address bar, not the search window on the top right or by using about:config, doesn't work. Worked fine until this FF 8.0 update, now defaults to Yahoo 7. About to throw it in and use Chrome.

When Firefox 8.0 installed it has automatically changed my address bar default search engine to Yahoo7 which is crap. I can not change this back. So when I start FF it opens to my google home page, when I type a subject and search the results are displayed in a Yahoo 7 results page, not google. I am not talking about my default home page or the search bar to the top right. This is still google.
The settings in about:config do nothing.

Pernich and I want to know; If you type search criteria directly into the address bar and hit enter, how to change that search engine from Yahoo to Google.
Otherwise I too will go back to using Google Chrome, even though I really like FF8.0

Safari/Preferences/General. There is a place there to specify your default search engine.

You may be mixing two things.
Safari does not really have a home page.
You set your home page on these pref (see pic below). In the pic below my home page is zip, zero, nada.
You set your search engine prefs via the Search option from within Safari preferences.
