How do I stop multiple files from opening at once?

When I click the icon to open word, powerpoint, or excel all of the word files open at the same time. The same goes for the others, if I click on powerpoint-all of my powerpoint files open at once. The only reason pages, numbers and keynote does not do it, is because I don't have any files for those programs. I work mainly from microsof-more comfortable. Someone Please help!!
Things that had an effect on my computer today:
Today, I down loaded Mountain Lion
Today, I deleted all of the down loads from the down load folder

When you restart or shut down you have the option to "Reopen Windows when Logging Back In". Untick this option and neither the applications nor the documents you have open un shutdown will reopen when you log back in. It is also possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

My process is pretty simple....with a message open I click the attach icon (paperclip) at the top of the message, then navigate to where the file is located and select it. Whenever I try to edit a page using sharepoint designer, it tells me that

That isnt the reason. Searching on the interweb, It seems that whenever you have a second collection, designer always connects using Webdav and this doesn't support designer.
So ----- Can anyone tell me how to get around this problem without installing PWA as it's own Web Application?

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to stop sharepoint designer from opening my site with WEBDAV.
What’s the main reason of the problem that related to Project Site Template this by default set to DisableWebDesignFeatu es in
ONET.XML.
To enable edit Project Site in SharePoint Designer, you need to remove the DisableWebDesignFeatures="wdfopensite" from ONET.xml of the PWA site.

How can I stop Adobe Reader from opening after start up?

I just installed version 9. I remember a question that appeared during installation that was something like "do you want Adobe Reader to open after start up?" I said checked yes because I assumed this meant I wanted it in my StartUp menu. After everything loads and my desktop comes up, the Adobe Reader file opens up showing all the program's files and just sits there. I have to close it each time after start up.

The only 3d party apps are Hazel...
And that's your problem!
From the Hazel site's description:
Hazel watches whatever folders you tell it to, automatically organizing your files according to the rules you create.
Hazel, is a prefPane so you must have some rule (or it supplied the rule as a default) to put pictures (jpg's) from your Desktop (folder) into your Pictures folder.
Open your System Preferences and Hazel in there and either turn off Hazel or change or delete the appropriate rule covering this situation.
