How do I stop multiple tabs from opening in Firefox 9.01

When I click a link to another website a new tab opens. I prefer to just go to the sight and not be inundated with multiple tabs.

You can look at the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page.

It is also possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

How do I stop random tabs from opening on their own?

ok, every time I open firefox it opens my usual tabs and everything's fine. But after a while for no reason at all it'll just open a random tab so some random website relevant to what I'm looking at or searching at the time. For example I was looking up how to make a visual arts portfolio, and it randomly opened a site that I could buy portfolio covers from. Overall it's just extremely annoying.
I've done several things to try and remedy the problem such as uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, using various addons such as addblock plus, BlockSite, NoScript, an AVG toolbar, as well as running various virus and malware scans using Malware Bytes, AVG, Spybot S&D, Avast, and Combo Fix. So far nothing has worked, obviously. So now I'm down to the point of frustration, because I can't figure out what the problem is, and neither can my computer geek friends. Help would be really appreciated.

When I click the icon to open word, powerpoint, or excel all of the word files open at the same time. The same goes for the others, if I click on powerpoint-all of my powerpoint files open at once. The only reason pages, numbers and keynote does not do it, is because I don't have any files for those programs. I work mainly from microsof-more comfortable. Someone Please help!!

When you restart or shut down you have the option to "Reopen Windows when Logging Back In". Untick this option and neither the applications nor the documents you have open un shutdown will reopen when you log back in. My homepage works fine, but when I open a new tab, that page opens to a Bing search page. I've gone to tools>add-ons> and searched both add-ons and extensions... there nothing listed there that refers to Bing.
Once the tab opens, i can hit my home button which takes me to my home page, but that step is annoying.

My process is pretty simple....with a message open I click the attach icon (paperclip) at the top of the message, then navigate to where the file is located and select it.
