How do I stop my computer from redirecting and playing audio in the background

My iMac is running safari 6.0.2. Im always being redirected to sites, and sometimes there will be audio playing in the background. The only way to stop the audio is to close safari. That would be the only app open at the time the video plays. The video just loops over and over again until I close safari. Ive reset safari, changed open DNS servers, flushed the cashe and verified the all the DNS servers active on my computer. I have webroot installed but it detects nothing. I tried to install rootkit hunter, but it didnt detect anything. Im feeling like my last resort is to ditch everything and start from scratch. Can of the experts out ther help?

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that this Internet criminal has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • How do I stop my computer from sending emails to everyone in my address book

How do I stop my computer from sending emails to everyone in my address book? This is happening when I am not on my computer.

I've been using a local isp and have recently gotten my mac email up and running. I think you are correct about the limitation being from the local isp as I was able to right click and send to all 67 via the Bcc. Good info, thanks.
I promote the use of Bcc any chance I get. Seems so many out there just don't understand the forward/reply issue where names are scanned from nearly infinite lists of forwarded emails.

how can i deauthorize a computer that crashed and is now in the trash world? i purchased a new laptop and need to authorize my computer

You cannot, nor do you need to, until you reach the limit of 5.  Once you reach 5, then you can deauthorize all, and then authorize the active computers.

The only content that you can download for apps, games, music etc on the iPad is from the App Store or from iTunes. No that game will not work on the iPad.

  • How can I stop my computer from logging off automatically when the computer is dormant for a few minutes?

I must have changed a setting by mistake.
Now, after a period of dormancy, my computer shuts down all apps and logs off.
How can I stop it from doing that?
I've tried to retrace any recent steps in the Preferences, but to no avail.

Niel, thanks for putting me on the right track.  I had to go to the "advanced" section of the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences to find that option.  I had almost given up searching the 4 tabs on the main page in vain.
But I found it and it's turned off
    Thanks again

  • How do I stop my computer from asking me if I want to authorize my computer?

Every time I hook up my iphone to my macbook pro, it says the computer is not authorized to save certain apps from my phone.  Then it asks me if I'd like to authoirize the computer, so I hit "authorize" (yes).  I type in my apple ID and password and hit enter.  Then a box pops up that says this computer is already authorized.  This is a never-ending circle.  How do I stop this?

<code>about:config</code> isn't a feature found in Windows. It's a hidden website in Firefox that allows you to change a ton of prefs in Firefox (if you know what you are doing of course)
Please enter <code>about:config</code> into the Firefox address bar and press ENTER. Once there, click the button that says <code>I'll be careful, I promise!</code> Search for the following prefs and set it to false
    * app.update.auto
    * app.update.enabled
    * app.update.silent

  • How can we stop jre 7 from blowing us all out of the water?

I would like to put forth a issue that greatly concerns me which is java 7. In recent times, some browsers have summarily decided that
they only allow calls to "current" versions of java. So in Mozilla's mindset, the only current version of java now is 6. It is questionable how
feasible it is for someone to manage to get firefox to call an "older" plugin like 1.5, 1.4 or 1.3. Sounds like it requires a lot of manual
configuration on each user's pc. Mozilla has put out conflicting advice on this topic.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Switching_Java_versions_-_Advanced
    http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/java.html#Issues
So my big concern is that when java 7 is released, Mozilla and other browser vendors can then decide 7 is the current version and make
it nearly impossible to call java 6. Which would be terrible. Oracle would take a fine amount of time to certify 7 and only certify it on the
most recent versions of the software. I forsee great pain and suffering amongst the customers on this. How can this be prevented?
(And why doesn't oracle write it's own browser? If you write your own browser you are free from worrying about this nonsense. Also
the enterprise browser should only connect to enterprise resources and not be used for arbitrary web surfing by the users. Need a way
    to restrict such a program.)

"Starting with Firefox 3.6, Java-based applications will NOT work unless you are running Java version 6 Update 10 or newer. "
"Starting in Firefox 3.6, Mozilla foundation will drop support on OJI (Open Java Virtual Machine Integration) and will only support the standard NPAPI and NPRuntime interfaces. The Java Plug-in which is in Java version 6 update 10 or newer versions supports the NPAPI and NPRuntime interfaces. Therefore, starting with Firefox 3.6, Java-based applets will NOT work unless you are running Java version 6 Update 10 or newer"

    From the java download page:
J2SE 5.0 reached its End of Service Life (EOSL) on November 3, 2009, which is the date of the final publicly available update of version 5.0 (J2SE 5.0 Update 22). So not only Mozilla thinks that Java 6 is the only version, even the vendor of java (oracle) thinks that.
Why is it so that everybody thinks that software from the previous millennium (like JInit) of course has to work with software of this millennium (like firefox 3.6)?!? JRE 1.5 is desupported for nearly 2 Years now....and don't get me started on JInitiator which basically was released 11 years ago, but surely you will find someone who has a company standard of IE8 and JInit (and mutters why this does not work anymore). Now there comes the argument that they don't want to upgrade their forms servers or what ever else because they are afraid that the newer version does not work anymore, but surely they are update happy with their browsers, aren't they? So why just move foreward with parts of the configuration?
If you look here you may notice that JRE 1.6 will reach EOL in 2012 (2013 with Java for Business) which is about the same time when Forms 10g will reach EOL, so you not only won't get new certifications with forms 10g, you also won't get new Security Patches etc. for forms 10g. This is a perfect reason why to move on to a newer version in both cases.
I am working for a software vendor myself, and I perfectly understand why software vendors throw away compabilities and start desupporting software after a certain amount of time. If we didn't I still would have to develop my PL/SQL code so it operates flawlessly on Oracle 7 as there were surely customers out there which insisted that this version of the database runs so stable in their site, and they don't need to update as the old database software runs well. And not only that, but the point in time when it takes you longer to actually find the affected versions and patch the fix of a critical bug in all those versions takes longer than finding the bug itself (been there, done that) it is time to throw some old versions out of the window, desupport them and clean the trunk code.
Bottom line is: if you want to keep one part of your software Jurassic you better keep the whole configuration at the same age. Old software is never meant to run against software from 10 years in the future, and in the opposite it is quite an impossible task to write an infinite backward compatible software.
    cheers

  • How can I stop my iPhone from starting to play music in my pocket?

Almost everytime I get my phone out of my pocket it's playing music! How do I stop it doing this it's always locked before it goes into my pocket.

It should only do that if you hold down the T key at startup.  Otherwise the PRAM battery is probably near death, or the T key needs to be cleaned so it doesn't think it is being held down.  To clean the keyboard properly, you will probably need to bring it in for service.

The OSX already has defenses built in.  Your biggest problem is downloading malware unwittingly.  If you do not know what something is, do not download it.

  • How do I stop Google results from redirecting me back to the main site itself?

Hi, so today, this morning, when I booted up my laptop (Mac, OS X Mavericks), Safari and Google started freaking out on me. It was the first time anything of the sort has happened to me before, and being the lousy tech person I am, I am freaking out quite a bit.
    Let me elaborate.
I opened up Safari as per usual, went on Skype, had a nice little conversation with my friend when she suddenly brought up the topic of Mila Kunis. Me, being the girl that lives under the rock, goes "I don't know anything about her except for the fact that she's pregnant", and my friend goes, "Well, Google it, then!"
So I do, and then all **** breaks loose.
I go to the toolbar in Google, everything's looking normal, and then I enter "Mila Kunis", and click on the first result that pops up (Wikipedia, basically). Now this is where it starts to go strange.
The result doesn't open at all; instead, it redirects me back to the Google homepage: www.google.com.hk. I have tried entering in different results in the Google toolbar, but when I click on any of the results, it always redirects me back to Google. The only way I can open the results given to me is by copying and pasting the URL that is sometimes displayed on the bottom of the link; if not, then I get, you guessed it, redirected back to Google. This can be very annoying as no one likes to enter in the URLs of websites manually.
I have tried many solutions, such as disabling add-ons, starting the laptop in safe-boot and deleting, as some high-tech professionals put it, "files that don't look like they belong". It seems that the problem resides within my laptop, as when I Google things on my phone and desktop computer, it works perfectly fine. Please help, I really don't know what to do.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Test.
