How do I stop my home page from changing

Despite setting my Homepage to BT Yahoo, every time I restart Safari it resets the home page to the Apple website.  Also, having customised my toolbar i.e. added the homepage, top sites, new tab etc icons they are also gone on restarting Safari.
This seemed to happen after I loaded McAfee security, but I have now uninstalled this but the problem persists.
Any suggestions?

Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

There's a good chance this is related to a bug that kicks in when you do not have Flash running in any tab and you open a new window to a page that does use Flash: suddenly, the previous window (typically the one from which you launched the link or bookmark) comes back to the front.
The details are in this recent thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/955659 Opening New Windows and Shockwave Flash].

now, while displaying the form generate some random number, or take the current time in millis or whatever. Put that number in a hidden field. Insert that unique number along with the real data into the database, but before you do check if the number already exists. If it does you can be pretty sure this is a resubmit of the same data, so don't allow it. This is one way of many to prevent resubmission of existing data.
A good way to prevent a refresh from resubmitting altogether is to do a redirect to a result page right after you deal with the POST request. When the user presses refresh then, he/she will refresh the redirect and not the form submit.

    ''locking - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/775159 ''

Drudgereport includes JavaScript code that refreshes the page. You could disable JavaScript for the drudgereport site, that will stop it from refreshing. You can do that by installing the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/4922/ YesScript] extension which allows you to block JavaScript on sites that you specify.

  • How do I prevent Yahoo home page from redirecting?

My Yahoo page is very informative so I like to keep it as a home page. Recently the page is blank with a message that there were too many redirects etc.  If I click my home page button then my home page appears without a problem.  Hwo may I stop the redirecting in the first place so that my home page will appear according to my Safari preferences at startup.
At first I thought it had to do with my selection of Google as my default search because when I do get my home page it's automatically set for Yahoo search, however after setting my default search to Yahoo the same problem of redirect occurs.
Does anyone have a fix without changing my home page?

  • How do you keep the settings on the home page from changing?

On my firefox home page it was set to no graphics, now it's changed to a simulation of the game space invaders.
This is the same type of thing that Yahoo, aol, google ALL do. I was under the impression you DO NOT do this type of stuff. I guess I was wrong!

To narrow the search for the problem -
Try opening Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift Key as click on the Firefox icon,
and try re-setting your Home page via Options>General>When Firefox starts Show a blank page.
Does the problem persist in either of these two cases?

Hello and thanks everyone for your replies.  I was able to get it working using the Optimizer method.  I'll look into setting it in the Distiller though.  We'll also make sure everyone that modifies the pdf's have a more recent version of Acrobat because the older versions are giving a "bad parameter" error message.  This solves that but better to upgrade.
I'm converting from Word to pdf and the security gets set on the pdf because that is the files we use externally.  I just don't want anyone changing the content; we figured the pdf is a bit more secure than the MS Word security!
    Thanks again!

I have an excel doc that I've converted to pdf.  In the process the date format changed to mm/dd/yyyy.  How do I stop this from happening?

    Hello,
In a earlier attempt I marked all the date entries and labeled them as such (see screenshot of my German Excel):
After that I converted the file by help of Excel(!) and I got this pdf file, which had all the entries formatted as produced in Excel before.

  • How do I stop the new Pages from updating the old Pages?  It is automatically updating, but I don't want it to because it's horrible!!!

I downloaded the new Pages, Keynote, and Numbers, but they're horrible so I deleted them.  Now they keep trying to update my old iWorks.  I don't want them they are horrible!!!  It is automatically updating (I don't have it set to automatic update), so I have it paused, but I don't know how long that will last before they finish the update.  Apple, what are you doing to your loyal customers?  You are making inferior software and forcing it on us.  Why?

    Peter,
Luckily it had stopped trying to upgrade overnight, but your suggestion definitely helped.  I checked in the System Preferences and, sure enough, I had the auto-upgrade checked for regular programs but not apps.  So, it was doing what I told it, even though it wasn't what I wanted!  I am very thankful that I get to stay with my Pages 4 for now.  I love my Mac because it has always been so intuitive, searching for what I needed was fairly easy.  Unfortunately, some of the new upgrades of late don't fit that bill.  Pages 5 has some work to be done before I will feel comfortable switching.  Thank you for your help!
Now, any idea why my Calendar has frozen with the message "Moving calendars to server account..." ever since I downloaded Maverick?  I have had to do a force quit for the last two nights to get it to shut off so I can turn off my computer.  The swirling candycane of death accompanies this message.  I would be glad to undo whatever I have done....if I only knew what that was!
