How do I stop my internet from connecting to a certain network when I turn on my computer

HI everyone, how do I delete an old wireless network from my airport so that when I turn on my computer it doesn't always connect to the wrong network?

Linc's answer is correct but I know it does not always work.
If security is critical use a wired ethernet connection preferably with a fixed IP and the router's DHCP server turned off.

  • How do I stop my iPhone from connecting to the WiFi connection that my laptop just used?

I have an iPhone (7.1.2) and MacBook Pro (10.9.4). When I connect to a WiFi connection on my laptop, my iPhone always connects to the same network, even though I've explicitly told my iPhone to forget about specific networks. This issue ends up disabling the internet on my iPhone, as I often connect to networks on my laptop that require VPN connections, logins, etc that I am unable or unwilling to do on my iPhone. How do I keep the two separate?

Let me give you an example. I'm at a United lounge at O'Hare Airport right now. They have WiFi here but it requires that you log on in order to connect to the internet. I connect to WiFi from my laptop. All good. Then, immediately, my iPhone connects to the same network. But because I haven't logged on from my iPhone, I can't get online. This kills the internet on my iPhone because I'm connected to a network with no internet access. If on my iPhone I "Forget this Network" and then come back next week, I'll find that it connects to the exact same network.
I travel a lot and almost all of the networks I use on a daily basis require a login of some sort.
I could turn off WiFi but then I have to remember to turn it on when I actually do want to connect to a network, like when I'm at home.
Any idea how to prevent the mirroring of WiFi connections? Or at a minimum make sure the "Forget this Network" option actually works?

  • How can I stop my ipod from going to my picture library when connected to my computer?

A week or so ago I clicked the option that was saying "Transfer photos from ipod to computer" under the "What should this device do" option thing when you first connect your ipod to your computer. I have windows 8.1. Anyway, I thought the photo thing was a one time deal and it wouldn't ask me "what to do" again. Usually i ignore it but I did,in fact, have photos to put on my computer that day.
Now every time I plug my ipod into my computer it takes me to my picture library to start "reading" my ipod photos and if you have windows 8 or greater, that is very annoying because it's its own separate "application". Is there a way to reset this setting without resetting my ipod so it doesn't take me to my picture library each time? I can deal with the pop-up when you first connect I just don't wanna have to keep exiting my picture library each time I connect my ipod.

It's simply called Photos and there is no options/setting thing on it. I have windows 8, it's a stand alone photo library viewer.

  • How can i stop my iphone from allowing computers to download photos when connected?

eg. if someone steals my phone and plug into there computer the windows photo download box pops up when connected and allows photos to be downloaded even with passcode. It doesnt make sence to me that if you try and get on my phone you cant look at anything, but connect it to a computer and it allows you to download all pictures and videos.
    Thanks

What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
    - Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, and swiping the App upward to make it disappear.  (For iOS 6, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.)
    - Relaunch the App and try again.
    - Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    - Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
    - Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)
    - Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
    - Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
    - Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

  • How do i stop my music from sounding like it has interferance when i copy cd's to windows or itunes?

hi, i'm having trouble with the sound quality on some cd's that i copy to windows 7 or itunes, it kinda comes out all crackly & sounds like there's interferance, the cd's themselves are playing on other appliances & sound ok.
i've tuned-up my pc thinking that would rectify the problem but to no avail.

i do, but like i said it fell once and since then it hasn't been able to connect to my laptop. it acts like nothing's connected. i believe if i call the company the HDD is from they'll be able to transfer it to a new one but who knows how much they'd charge. looks like i have no choice now.
If it were truly a backup, then the media would play on the laptop as it would be on the laptop.
Sounds like you actually do not have a backup, instead you chose to keep your media on an external drive.
Regardless of where the media is stored, it's always a good idea to have a backup for instances like this.

  • How to prevent a MacBook Pro from connecting to a certain Wireless Network

I just got a new AEBS for christmas, and i have noticed after restarting it to apply new settings, my macbook will automatically connect to the 2.4ghz wireless G signal, instead of the 5ghz wireless N connection. I have tried removing the SSID from the preferred networks list, changing the password in my keychain, and even removing the info from the keychain, also i put the wireless N connection SSID name at the top of the preferred network list, and after trying all of this, my macbook, will still connect to the wireless G connection. Any Suggestions? Thanks Much!

    Welcome to the discussions!
Your computer will automatically connect to the strongest signal. 5 GHz signals are absorbed by walls, ceilings and any obstructions far more quickly than 2.4 GHz signals and that may likely be causing the issue that you see there.
Unless your computer is close to the AirPort Extreme (AEBS) and/or you have close to line-of-sight between your computer and the AEBS, the signal from the 2.4 GHz band at your location is probably stronger than the 5 GHz signal.
You do want your computer to choose the best signal possible, correct?
Or, are you asking if there is a way to force your computer to connect to the 5 GHz network, even if the 5 GHz signal quality is not as high?
Please confirm if that is the case. You won't be able to try to force this connection unless you have assigned different network names to your "main" and "guest" networks. By default, they both have the same name. Have you made these changes by clicking Wireless Options in AirPort Utility?

  • How do I stop my pages from changing (paragraphs breaking, chapters moving) when trying to export?

I'm fairly new to indesign and am self teaching myself via the internet and books. I'm working on a novel layout and I had it finished and what I thought looked nice. The last step was to export it to a PDF format I thought. Well, when I export it and then view the PDF a few paragraphs are broken with a few lines between the first part and second part. Chapters also lose their position. I would go back into InDesign and check and it would be that was in indesign as well. I've fixed it a dozen times. Double and triple checked the pages before hitting export again. Again, more trouble, but it would be in different places. Am I doing something wrong during the export?

Did you start this book in an earlier version if InDesign and convert it? If so, the text engine is different in the new version and stories reflow when you touch them in some way. You can force ID to recompose all stories using the Keyboard Shortcut Ctrl + Alt +/ on Windows or Cmd + Opt + / on Mac, then check carefully throughthe whole thing.
You can also force a recompose by exporting to .idml and opeing that, then saving with a new name. (See Remove minor corruption by exporting)

  • How can I stop Adobe Reader from reading (seeking) the floppy drive when opening/closing any PDF?

Ever since I opened a PDF file from my floppy drive Adobe Reader insists on checking/seeking/reading the floppy drive whenever I open and whenever I close any PDF (not using the floppy).  It is very annoying, as I use many PDFs per day and it creates a delay and noise every time.

    Under Page Display:
Where it says "Location of referenced files", if it shows "Floppy Disk A:/" clear the box, or choose an alternate location if you can't clear it.

  • How do I stop the Finder from seeing SMB (Windows) shares on the network?

I have the OPPOSITE problem most people have -- Windows Sharing works TOO WELL.
I've donated a refurbished eMac to the local homeless shelter. I figured I'd made the system secure, and prevented any monkey business. Turns out the windows machines on the network are COMPLETELY insecure (guest access to everything is enabled). The problem is that the Mac is TOO friendly -- it automatically connects to the server as a guest, and happily presents everything to the user.
I've tried a dozen different things (I've removed the 'Shared' section from the sidebar in the Finder windows (Go->Network is still there, Doh.), tried to turn off File Sharing, and even disabled the mount_smbfs command in the /sbin directory with "chmod 0 mount_smbfs".)
I've asked the folks there to call in a PC tech and fix their security problem -- but it's a good question to which I've found no suitable answer... How to I stop the Mac from connecting to SMB Shares on the local network?
    Thanks.
    -JD.

Same problem, keep getting a pop up with connection failed you do not have permission to access the server. The server is a windows 7 box, Starting happening after an up grade to windows 7. Nowhere can I find how to stop trying to connect. I am sure its at the unix level of samba but what to do is another question

Rtbeal, I would recommend that you contact AppleCare so they can run further tests and diagnostics to help you solve your solution better.
If you can also access an Apple Store Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Center, that would be much better.
