How do i stop my ipod touch 4g from skipping by itself?

I am having trouble with my ipod touch 4g. When i go to select a song to listen to it will skip by itself and it will skip songs until it stops by itself. My shuffle is off, and it skips all my songs but a few.
i have tried
-resetting my settings
-restarting my ipod
And i cannot seem to find what the problem is!
And it is frustrating me!!!

Delete the backup from iTunes. Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and highlight the backup and click on delete. You have to do that after every sync. Also, make sure that you empty the recycle bin (PC) or trash (Mac) to really delete the backup.
Also, in the future you can turn on Private browsings in Settings>Safari or go there and Clear History right before you sync.

You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Next, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account. In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials.
If possible, either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync. To do this, right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. The only place I use my Ipod Touch is in my car that has an iPod connection and the steering wheel controls, but I mostly listen to audio books with the audible app. Everytime I get in my car instead of the iPod just picking up where it left off with the audible app it picks up playing whatever was last listened to with the default music player. Although sometimes it will pick up with the audible app where it stopped when I last used the car (the time I spend with it not playing in the car doesn't seem to make a difference.). There is nothing yo can do to return to the app you want.
You can't delete the apps that came with the iPod. Except for NewsbStand, you can put the apps you do not want into one folder and move it to the last screen

During the backup process, you should be able to click on the little X at the top of iTunes, where it shows the backup process progression. This will stop the backup. From there, your sync will continue.
However, without a good/recent backup, if you had to restore your iPod, you would lose all of the settings/notes/etc that had been changed or created since your last full backup. You will want to let the backup complete every so often to make sure that you have a good one on hand that you can use if you need it.

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS5 whilst my old iPod Touch Mk1 still runs on iOS3. My old iPod now rests in the handbag of my wife who will use the installed apps if she is near a wifi she can use. There is however an increasing problem in that wheras it is more than capable whilst running the old apps iTunes is automatically upgrading them as new versions are released and increasingly upgraded apps only support iOS4 +. The obvious answer of buying a new iPod does not compute, its a good iPod and despite years of regular use the battery life is more than reasonable and the iPod function wit h16gb is more than adequate so I refuse to commit it to the silicon graveyard yet ( i still run old G3 and G4 macs as servers and have an old Classic that still provides amusement at parties).
If however this automatic upgrade and trashing of old apps continues it will not be long before one day we sync the ipod and find it wipes al lthe apps off as they are no longer iOS3 compatible. Anyone ever found a way to protect the apps of an iOS3 device whislst all ipods are synced from the same iTunes user account?

There really is not god way. Whatyou migh consider it sonnecting the iPod to a different computer and transfering purchases to the computer. That way yu will still have the version of the apps that are compatible with the iPod.

At a later date if necessary you can delete the newer apps from the library of the syncing computer and put the older ones in and do what you want to the iPod.

Backing up saves your settings and other stuff on core apps but it doesnt save your appdata(that's is the main thing i am looking for) so it wont restore that when i restore it from the backup i create and this article too says it http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972 so i would like too know how do i keep my data stored in apps from the appstore if there is any way to keep the data. I am having trouble updating my ipod because when it was updating my cable fell out now i cant get on to my ipod everytime i plugg in my ipod it comes up with "new hardware found" then it continues (recovery mode) however it comes up with
"no device found" and tells me to insert a disc but i dont have one or other options which also dont work and on one of the bit of advise it says download device software from manufacture but i can't find how you download it.
