How do I stop my iTunes from freezing?

Hey everyone...I own a Windows Vista and an iPod Classic 160 GB. Recently, my iPod started skipping songs or ending them early. I restored it twice and that did nothing. I also completely uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it - that did nothing. The only thing that did was remove the "error (-48)" message the popped up. Now, everytime I plug my iPod in to sync, the iTunes freezes at maybe...The 314th song out of 1544 songs. My iPod's screen now shows that it's connected and not even syncing. The Task Manager says that it's not responding and when I try to exit it through that - it takes forever, even if I cancel the process! I'm aware that 7.7 has some issues but if anyone has any pointers for me, that'd be great. I'm not sure if the bug is causing this or my computer.

right-click or crtl-click on one of the downloaded files and choose +open with+, then select other. you will see this window

If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.

Why am I not able to stop my iTunes from freezing?

hello everyone. I've been having some trouble for the past couple of weeks with my iTunes, hence is why I decided to make an account on here.
A couple weeks ago I was on my laptop (I have Windows 7) and I went to my documents and then downloads. I then decided to drag the songs I had on my downloads page (precisley 1,480 songs) and put them on my itunes. As soon as I dragged them onto my iTunes it started to load normally and then it froze and a box popped up that said "iTunes has stopped working" and then I had to exit out. Everytime I open up iTunes now it shows all the songs on my iTunes but it'll freeze and I have to exit it out again. I've been trying to look things up but no one really has anything on this issue. I've tried uninstalling it, reinstalling it, scanning it just in case it had a virus on it, and even something simple like shutting my laptop off and shutting it back on. My quicktime is fine and such but I just can't wrap my head around this issue. If anyone can help I'd gladly appreciate it.

Ok, I guess. I think just logging out and back in would be sufficient in that case.
FWIW, FYI, com.apple.systempreferences.plist is there. Just opening system prefes would recreate it if it wasn't there which is why I originally suggested removing it to get a fresh copy created. You must not have looked in the Preferences in you Library directory and looked in the Library Preferences in the boot disk instead.

I figured it out! Trying to delete this now....

Deselect this option under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply. Bookmarks will no longer be synced between the two.
