How do I stop notifications to upgrade to Yosemite?

I'm on 10.6.8. I keep getting notifications to upgrade to Yosemite. I don't want to upgrade because I've heard Yosemite caused problems and lag issues to Logic Pro 9. I don't want to keep getting the notifications to upgrade. I've refused so many times, but it keeps popping up. How do I stop these?

The updates list is blank and says "no updates are available". Even when I clicked "show incompatible app update", Yosemite still isn't listed on there. So, where else am I supposed to click?
Since the update list is blank, I tried right-clicking the "free update" button, but all that did was download Yosemite, which I don't want to do, so I paused it.
Do you why am I getting notices to upgrade to Yosemite if there are "no updates available" in the App Store? Or am I supposed to download Yosemite first, then right-click it to hide the update?

how do i stop notifications from ringing while im on a phone call on the iphone 4s?

    Basel,
I'm not sure why these folks are having trouble understanding your request. I will dumb it down for them. Is there an option to have the iPhone only provide me with notifications when I'm not on the phone. Having my $800ish phone buzz and interrupt my phone conversation (after all primary function of this iPhone is being a phone) to let me know one of my Facebook friends has challenged me to a game of words with friends. I don't want my iPhone to not notify me at all. It can notify me after the call (again primary function) is complete. Going through menus and turning off notifications all together is absolutely silly. I wouldn't want to have to navigate through the menus and turn them off and then on an then off just to make or receive a phone call. Could you imagine answering you phone with, "hey, just wait I have to turn my notifications off so I can have this conversation." every time you wanted to talk on the phone.
So yeah. Again not sure why they were having trouble with understanding you. I hope this helps clarify it for them.

  • Notification to "upgrade" to Yosemite

am I the only one who started getting Notifications to "upgrade" to Yosemite today ?????
hey Apple, your Yosemite operating system does not work, and I have already gone back to (working) Mavericks.
These Notifications are more galling than their silence on the myriad of problems people are having. Many people are still without WiFi
As if iOS8 killing my phone wasn't enough

    Dudley,
I know you will get this regardless.
I try to help despite your confusingly written reply in seemingly the wrong topic, and I get this despite my attempt to clarify. It is people like you that make me reluctant to help.
It has taken years to become comfortable enough communicating online in order to even attempt to help. Dah*veed at least had the forethought to restrict his critcisms to observable facts.
You are just spewing hurtful slander. I was trying my best to be helpful, it may not have been written like sunshine and rainbows, but I thought it could at least be understood as what it was. Me trying to be helpful. I merely thought that I had seen the solution to what I thought your problem was.
As for the remark regarding "It is normal to recieve updates..." well, as already said your post was confusingly worded. It provided two possibilities, I was doing what I thought was proper by addressing both possibilities.
I hope you understand that words hurt, I was only trying to help...

  • How do I stop daily "system upgrade" messages.

How do I stop Verizon from sending me "system upgrade available" messages from being sent on a daily basis? I did the upgrade weeks ago, but I continue to get these super annoying messages from Verizon.

Thank you all for your replies.
    Hello keithdunlop,
Software updates are meant to improve your device. You will continue to receive a notification until the update goes through. If you continue to experience difficulties updating your software please feel free to reach out to us for assistance.

It's not a good idea to allow websites to redirect to another site until you know for sure the original site is trustworthy.
But if you still want to do it (again not a good idea).
Tools>Options>Advanced>General - In Accessibility, uncheck "warn me when web sites try to redirect..." option.

  • How do I stop notifications from a particular source?

Perhaps I inadvertently clicked on something recently, but I've begun getting notifications from "Mac Prices Australia" (I live in the United States). I can see the item listed in Notifications in System Preferences, but I don't see an option to remove it. Plus, there are a number of items here that I don't actually use and would like to remove. How do I go about this?

Well, I realize that would keep the notifications from appearing, but I also assume there's a bit of code for Mac Prices Australia that would still remain on my Mac, and I'd like to delete that entirely. I poked around in the Library, hoping to find a folder with these notifications, but I haven't found one yet.
I guess I titled my question incorrectly. I should have asked how to remove rather than just stop notifications from a particular source.

  • How do I stop notifications/reminders during video playback?

I need to use my iPad to show some videos at work. I am showing videos to large crowds in an auditorium. How do I prevent notifications/reminders from stopping the playback of my video?

Seems like there should be a global Notifications switch to turn all off temporarily when watching video or for other situations where you don't want to be interrupted.  It is crazy/very unfriendly to have to individually adjust each notification item every time a non-interrupt situation arises.

  • How do I update GarageBand after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.1

I have GarageBand on my MacBook Pro but have recently upgraded to Yosemite OS X 10.10.2. I wanted to use GarageBand but rec'd a message that there is a newer version. I didn't think I should have to pay for an upgrade in the App Store. How do I update my version of GarageBand?

Which version of GarageBand do you currently have?
Updates are free (when the first number of the version number stays the same), but upgrades to a major new release require a purchase (when the first part of the version number changes).  So the upgrade from GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5 to GarageBand 10.0.3 is a major upgrade, that requires a purchase.
If you decide to upgrade, do not replace your current GarageBand version, if you are currently running GarageBand 6.0.5. Keep both versions. The new GarageBand is very different from version 6.0.5 - it is more like Logic than GarageBand. It comes with nice new features like smart drummers, but but older audio units are no longer support. If you decide to upgrade your system, keep your current GarageBand as well. Both can be used in parallel and you will need the sounds and loops from the previous version to play your older projects. This forum is full of desperate questions about how to get the previous version back, because instruments are missing or podcasts no longer supported.

  • Kodak ESP 3200 stopped working after upgrading to Yosemite

Kodak ESP 3200 stopped working after upgrading to Yosemite

Kodak has posted an unsupported hack that has been reported to enable printing to a Kodak printer not supported in OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"). Perhaps it would have the same effect with some other kinds of printers that aren't supported in Yosemite. I have no information about that, one way or the other.
I have not tested the hack myself and I don't know all the possible effects. As far as I know it will not break the compatibility of printing software that is already compatible with Yosemite. It may degrade the security of the web administration interface of CUPS. That interface is not enabled by default, and will not be enabled by the procedure described here. Even if it were enabled, I know of no way it could be exploited, with or without the modification. Nevertheless, if you have enabled the web administration interface, you should disable it if you decide to follow these instructions. If you don't know what the web administration interface is, you haven't enabled it.

  • How long should I wait to upgrade to Yosemite?

    I have 27 iMac Late 2013, OS X 10.9.5, 24 iMac 2008, and MacBook
I want to know if it's time to upgrade to Yosemite because I don't want to go through the nightmares some of you have gone through. At my age, I just can keel over if my Mac won't work.
I didn't have any problems with Maverick when I upgraded with my 24 iMac and MB. I'm hoping it'll be the same for all of my computers.

    Read
Will Yosemite run on iMac Early 2008
Then check  Roaring Applications for software releases that work with Yosemite.  One of your must have applications may not work with Yosemite.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps?index=a
Then, if you make the plunge - make a backup first.
Make sure you are updated on the Apple apps (numbers, pages, etc.)
Make sure you have no third party apps in your Startup items (that has caused major issues)
    See System Preferences
    Users & Groups
    Login Items
If you do, remove or disable them first before updating
    Be patient with the install.

  • Media Keys stopped working after upgrading to Yosemite. Tried several things, what to do?

I have a Late 2013 Mac Book Pro. After upgrading to Yosemite, my media keys (F7-F12) seemed to be working funny. They worked sometimes but not during others. A simple web search seems to indicate that Chrome is the culprit which I believe is the case. However, the instructions to disable Chrome from messing with the media keys does not seem to work (as my version of Chrome does not seem to have preferences to allow me to turn off its access to the function keys). The make things weirder, when System Preferences > Keyboard has the "Function Keys" option turned on, the media keys do not work (in fact F11 clears the screen to show the desktop). And when the option is turned off, the media keys work normally as though they are turned on. Additionally, when F11 and F12 are pressed (to lower/raise the volume), it no longer plays "test sound clicks" to indicate the changed volume. I have tried a PRAM reset to no avail.
    Any help is appriciated.

For my hard drive that doesn't show up at all, the problem is not Yosemite per se. It's the USB3 driver incompatibility. Try using a USB2 cable (micro USB just like an android charger cable that plugs in half of the slot on your hard drive) and it will work. Or try connecting it to an older computer that has USB2 ports on it (with the original USB3 cable) and it will work BOTH on Yosemite and Mavericks. Of course it will transfer data at USB2 speeds. Apple screwed up the drivers again so we have to wait for them to 1. receive thousands of complaints 2. wait for eternity to acknowledge there's an issue. 3. take their sweet time fixing the USB3 drivers. Until then you can get by with USB2 cables. I hope this helps!

  • How do I stop notifications for shared Google calendars?

We have a Google Apps account for our company. I have all my team members calendars in iCal, but recently just started receiving notifications on ALL of their meeting invites, events, etc. Even when I am not included. My notification button in iCal now shows 130 notifications and growing.
I have already checked "Ignore Notifications" after clicking "Get Info" on their calendar in the list.
I also am receiving some, but not all, of these notifications on my iPhone 6.
Anyone have ideas on what I need to do?
On a related note, I also have BusyCal 2.0 that I tried, and it DID NOT replicate this situation, but I would prefer to use iCal if possible....

I've found three ways to help with this, but not fully eliminate the problem:
    1. In your Mail, Contacts and Calendars settings, at the very bottom, there is a new item called "Shared Calendar Alerts." Sliding this to the OFF position has helped eliminate SOME of this problem, but it is not fool proof.
    2. As most of you know, disabling shared calendars in your Calendars settings has some impact, but for some very strange reason, the calendars I've disabled continue to re-enable themselves. It's frustrating, but the only way I've found to stop the alerts (sometimes) is to continually go back to my calendar settings and constantly disable them. This is a bug that Apple has to fix.
    3. As a last resort, the only way I've found to completely eliminate these bothersome meeting alerts is to delete the shared calendars entirely each time I've used them. So I share a calendar to see the events of my peers, then immediately delete the shared calendar. Sorry, but until Apple fixes this (not easy by the way) this is the only sure fire way to prevent them from bothering me.
