How do i stop Safari from freezing while i'm surfing the internet?

Ok, so here's the problem. Every time I go onto Safari, it doesn't respond after i search for something on google or go on Facebook. now, i have to use Safari in Safe Mode each time and the audio is disabled so i can't watch or listen to music videos. Can someone tell me how to stop Safari from doing this? Thanks.

Maybe try another browser like Firefox.
Also, try creating a new user account on your mac, and log in to that, to see if you continue to have the same problems.

  • How can I stop safari from auto completing url's on my iphone 4 and ipad2?

How can I stop safari from auto completing url's on my iphone 4 and ipad2?  On both devices I have cleared history, I have gone into settings-safari-and cleared history and cleared cookies & data, tried turning my devices on and off and I also have private browsing turned on. Both devices are operating on iOS 5.  When I type in a url I don't want anything to show and auto complete.  Any suggestions?

    This indicates corrupt files.
    A restore should resolve.

  • How do i stop notifications from ringing while im on a phone call on the iphone 4s

how do i stop notifications from ringing while im on a phone call on the iphone 4s?

    Basel,
I'm not sure why these folks are having trouble understanding your request. I will dumb it down for them. Is there an option to have the iPhone only provide me with notifications when I'm not on the phone. Having my $800ish phone buzz and interrupt my phone conversation (after all primary function of this iPhone is being a phone) to let me know one of my Facebook friends has challenged me to a game of words with friends. I don't want my iPhone to not notify me at all. It can notify me after the call (again primary function) is complete. Going through menus and turning off notifications all together is absolutely silly. I wouldn't want to have to navigate through the menus and turn them off and then on an then off just to make or receive a phone call. Could you imagine answering you phone with, "hey, just wait I have to turn my notifications off so I can have this conversation." every time you wanted to talk on the phone.
So yeah. Again not sure why they were having trouble with understanding you. I hope this helps clarify it for them.

  • How do I stop Safari from 'pinwheeling' whenever I am using Yahoo Mail? I really need a correct answer please.                                                                                             Mail? I need a correct answer please.

How do I stop Safari from 'pinwheeling' whenever I try to use Yahoo Mail?
I really need a correct answer please. Other answers have only suggested how to access Yahoo Mail without using Safari. I want to continue using Safari to access Yahoo Mail,if possible.  Thank you.

    Could be a cookie issue...
Go to Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab then click Show Cookies
Type yahoo in the serach field then click Remove All > Done
    Quit then relaunch Safari.
Try accessing your Yahoo mail account.
FYI... there is rarely a sure fire correct response for third party web based email client software. Often takes time consuming troubleshooting.

  • I have all my music on my external hard drive when I try to add it to iTunes it is automatically added to my MacBook Pro's hard drive. How do I stop this from happening? I just want the music to stay on the external hard drive. Thanks!

I have all my music on my external hard drive when I try to add it to iTunes it is automatically added to my MacBook Pro's hard drive. How do I stop this from happening? I just want the music to stay on the external hard drive. Thanks!

This is true of course, but doesn't cover the situation where some files are in the iTunes Media folder and others are on an external drive. In my case I keep my music in the Media folder and all my films on an external drive (there are too many to have on the internal drive). In iTunes 11, and before, it was easy to add those external files by holding down the alt/opt key while dragging to the sidebar. In iTunes 12 this is no longer possible. There are several workarounds: use TuneSpan to move the file after it's been added; delete the file from the Media folder and empty the trash then use iTunes Get Info which will report the file is missing and allow you to locate it; constantly switch the Add to iTunes toggle on and off as required. All of these require a lot more work than just holding down the alt/opt key while adding.
    It constantly gets harder.

  • How do I stop Safari from refreshing?

How can I stop it from refreshing when:
    1) When I press the "back" button, I want it to load what it has previously saved, not to reload the whole page again... this takes much longer and takes up bandwidth
    2) When I open the page again after a while: say I have 4-5 pages of different web pages, and when I open one of the pages that I haven't opened for a few minutes it'll load again when I try to go to that page... again, this takes much longer and takes up bandwidth
So how can I tell Safari just to show me what it has previously loaded and tell it to stop refreshing everything? It's quite annoying.
    Thanks in advance!

I've submitted feedback on this, and posted in another thread. This reloading issue is a real problem for using mobile boarding passes on airlines which support them, such as Continental and American. You may be able to present your boarding pass and scannable bar code at the bag check or security, but by the time you get to the gate, Safari will decide to reload the airlines' web page with your pass. Of course, this confuses the airlines' servers, and it takes several attempts (and minutes) to recall the correct page.
This unrequested reload is a real issue - it breaks the utility of Safari and the iPhone for this application, and many other web sites which have issues with a reload.

  • How can I stop safari from showing my old entries in a drop down menu?

I want to make it clear that I am not talking about the url bar. I am refering to suggestions within a webpage where stuff is entered (for example online homeowork for college students). I cannot seem to figure out how to stop safari from filling in my old entries.
How can I get rid of this box?

Have you checked the Safari Preferences > AutoFill settings?  The Other forms setting is described as follows:
Let Safari save information you enter on webpage forms, then automatically fill in the saved information when you revisit the same webpages. To view or edit your saved information, click Edit.

  • How can I stop Safari from opening new windows unless I want them?

Since Safari 5.02, there is no box to check in the General Preferences to stop Safari from opening a new window when I click on a link. My expectation is to only go to a new window when I want to do it. Most of my searches go down a rabbit hole and I just want to go backwards without closing page after new open page (Same problem with Tabs. I don't want new Tabs all the time either. In fact, the only time I really care about multiple open Tabs or Windows is when I need more than one Window open for data comparison or something like that...)
This is an incredibly annoying new behavior of Safari that I want to shut off. I have 20 windows open in the Window list right now. (I regularly shut off Safari to clear up all the useless abandoned windows.) Firefox doesn't do this, but I prefer Safari.
I tried to search this one, but maybe am not framing the question properly. See lots of discussion of forcing new tabs, but that is not what I am looking for....Can anyone help me?

    Thanks Baltwo,
I will try it, but I don't want new pages in tabs either. I simply don't want the link to open in a new page or tab unless I ask for one. My initial trial has google links opening in new tabs. Why can't I just go down the paths on the same page like the old days? Especially after I find what I want, I will go somewhere else.
With your recommendation, I think that instead of pages open, I will have an abundance of tabs?
Guess I am getting inflexible in my old age. If this is the only option, it is an "improvement" that I don't like yet.
    Firefox doesn't do it.

  • How do I stop Safari from automatically loading a URL when I start typing the first few letters in the URL/search bar?

My question concerns a bug (or feature, I'm not sure which) that I've been seeing for some time on my Safari installations.
I'm running Lion (the latest patched version) with Safari (ditto). I've noticed that every so often, if I open a new tab and start typing something in the search/URL bar, Safari will not only suggest something based on my history, but will actually begin loading the page as though I had accepted that suggestion.
For example, today, I typed the letter "b" in the search/URL bar, paused for a few seconds while I was thinking of what to type next, and Safari went ahead and loaded "bugzilla.gnome.org" based on that being the last URL starting with "b" that I happened to have gone to. And the same thing has happened to me on earlier occasions with different web sites. In other words, it's not merely giving me a suggestion, it then proceeds as though I had accepted that suggestion. Sometimes it might happen to be right, but it's the principle of the thing.
Needless to say, I hadn't inadvertently bumped the Enter key.
Of course, ordinarily, Safari will just offer a list of suggestions based on my bookmarks and browsing history, maybe filling out the URL bar with the topmost suggestion (while giving me the option of overtyping it if I wish). And, of course, this happens without fail if I've just had Safari preempt me by loading a page and am trying to find out why. Like the best Heisenbugs, this "feature" goes away as soon as I make a concerted attempt to study it.
I have completely disabled AutoFill in the Preferences dialog. I would clear the cache and history, except that I kind of resent having to do that every time (or turn on private browsing, possibly another option) just to stop the computer from executing an instruction that I haven't even finished giving it yet (and in many cases intend to change).
Has anyone else seen or been able to disable this feature?

  • How to I stop safari from automatically resizing the bookmark bar when I click on the search bar?

there is probably an eloquent way to ask this but I don't even know what the feature is called.
    Here is what it's doing:
I'm using safari in landscape mode on my iPad.
I click on the search bar and then the bookmarks come up below.
It takes a second to automatically resize to a size that make no sense, usually cutting off bookmark titles...and the delay of it resizes drives me nuts.
Safari did not used to do this until I guess ios 8. Any ideas how to stop this annoying "feature"??

    Try deleting the Cache.db...
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari ...
You may want to try the Safari Reading List as an alternative to tabs.
Click the eyeglass icon just to the left of the Bookmarks icon top left side of the Safari window.
Drag the url to the window or click Add Page

  • How do I stop Safari from refreshing pages on my iPad?

This is really annoying.  I am not sure if it is related to time or to memory.  (it's not auto-refresh set by the website).  I often load up several web pages in tabs that I would like to read on the train to work.  Unfortunately when I open the tabs, they refresh eating into my data plan.  If I switch off data, then the pages still try to refresh and I can't see them at all.
surely there must be an iPad Safari option to stop pages from automatically re-loading?

Did you click on the export icon -- box with an arrow above it?
Click on add to reading list -- old fashion glasses icon?
to see click on book icon
    click on glasses.

  • How do I stop Safari from automatically opening when I start iTunes?

A couple months ago, something very strange started happening.
Every time I open iTunes, Safari starts up opened to this page:
    file:///Applications/OmniGraffle.app/Contents/Resources/ja.lproj/OmniGraffle%20H elp/index_Customizing.html
It is an HTML page for "OmniGraffle Help," even though I have never installed OmniGraffle.
Anyone know how this came to be and how I can prevent this from happening anymore? Thanks for any help.

    Hi
This may have something to do with the "Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail" option being enabled? Click on the iCal Menu > Preferences > Advanced. It may also be the Alarms setting? This is for 10.6 iCal so it may be in a different place for 10.5?

  • How do i stop firefox from freezing?

When i go into tools and click on download the list freezes while downloading a file and i also have problems with tabs freezing/hanging when i visit websites how can i fix this? i'm on windows 7 and have the latest version of firefox

It's strongly recommended to '''disable all plug-ins''' and test again. If there was no crash, start enable a plug-in and test Firefox again for crashes. do this until you find the problem.
Else, can you write down some of this web pages URL here?

  • How do I stop safari from reopening previous sessions even after restart?

Finally made the leap to Lion.
WHY does safari insist on starting up and restoring the previous session, all tabs and everything even after a restart.  I've looked in preferences and for the life of me cannot find how/where to turn this off.  I just want Safari to start with a blank page, not reloading the previous page/tabs I had open the last time I used it!

Thanks QuickTimeKirk for the solution to this - have hated this feature as the default. It is useful if you want to return to something specific, but I reckon the majority of users would rather have the defaults the other way around - homepage as default for new Safari sessions and using the shift key when opening to return to last viewed pages/tabs.
