How do I stop Safari logging me out continually of websites?

For the last couple of months I and my husband are continually being logged out from websites such as ancestry.com.au on both our Macbook Pro and IPad.
We will be using the program and might click on save or the back option and it logs us out of the site we've been logged into.  I've seen a lot of discussion online about this happening to large amounts of people but no real solution.  I've tried resetting Safari and emptying the cache plus increasing our safari database to the maximum.  If I don't do this on a regular basis it just stops signing in altogether.
Any ideas?  My system is a Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
Here's hoping.

Safari doesn't log you out, the web site may do that. I would contact the web administrator.

  • Safari logs me out of websites every day at midnight

A few days ago I was browsing the internet and Safari randomly closed and asked me to "reset" so that it would work. I clicked reset and didn't lose my bookmarks and nothing seemed to be different. At midnight that night Safari logged me out of the websites that I had been logged into, and has done this every night at midnight ever since. Is there any way to fix this? I'd love to have it back like it was.

    Hi Sonny,
Can you explain in a bit more detail the logging out?
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

  • How can I stop safari from auto completing url's on my iphone 4 and ipad2?

How can I stop safari from auto completing url's on my iphone 4 and ipad2?  On both devices I have cleared history, I have gone into settings-safari-and cleared history and cleared cookies & data, tried turning my devices on and off and I also have private browsing turned on. Both devices are operating on iOS 5.  When I type in a url I don't want anything to show and auto complete.  Any suggestions?

    This indicates corrupt files.
    A restore should resolve.

  • How do I stop iTunes from breaking out all the songs in one album into multiple albums?

How do I stop iTunes from breaking out all the songs in one album into multiple albums when the artist has many collaborators on the different songs, for example Timbaland?  I want to just listen to the full album with all the songs, instead of having to play every song separately.

For your solution, see Steve MacGuire's helpful article:  http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp

  • How do I stop Safari from 'pinwheeling' whenever I am using Yahoo Mail? I really need a correct answer please.                                                                                             Mail? I need a correct answer please.

How do I stop Safari from 'pinwheeling' whenever I try to use Yahoo Mail?
I really need a correct answer please. Other answers have only suggested how to access Yahoo Mail without using Safari. I want to continue using Safari to access Yahoo Mail,if possible.  Thank you.

    Could be a cookie issue...
Go to Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab then click Show Cookies
Type yahoo in the serach field then click Remove All > Done
    Quit then relaunch Safari.
Try accessing your Yahoo mail account.
FYI... there is rarely a sure fire correct response for third party web based email client software. Often takes time consuming troubleshooting.

  • How do I stop Safari taking up ALL active memory?

When Safari is closed, I have about 530 MB free system memory.  I open Safari, and over the next 5 minutes it takes over all free memory, until I have about 40 MB free and 490 active.  This means that all other programs crawl and freeze, and Safari constantly hangs.  Force-quitting and emptying the cache at least once a day makes better, but only a little bit.
But how do I stop Safari doing this??

    Hi Gibby,
How much free space is on the HD, where has all the space gone?
OmniDiskSweeper is likely the easiest/best, and is now free...

And if needed, you can use Terminal to run it in admin mode to see files/folders your user can't see...

  • Facebook logging me out continuously?

The problem started after I installed the new version of Skype on my mac. This version allows me to log into facebook from skype itself. However, suppose, my mac is on sleep mode, after it wakes up and connects to skype automatically, Safari logs me out of fb even if I was logged in before and keeps asking me for my password. Hope i could explain my problem.
Is there any way I can fix this?

    Quit Safari.
    Open Keychain Access  /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
    Delete the Facebook keychain.
Relaunch Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab.
Make sure: User names and passwords is selected.
Login to Facebook with your user name and new password. Click Yes when prompted. That will create a new keychain for you.
If you still have problems accessing Facebook, go back to Safari Preferences and select the Security tab.
    Click: Show Cookies
    Delete all Facebook cookies.
Quit then relaunch Safari. Try FB again.

  • How do i make Firefox STOP frequently logging me out of sites when I chose "remember me"?

I have FF 24.0 now but this has happened through multiple versions, and its getting more and more frequent. (Win 7x64, 8G ram, 1T drive)
I always check "remember me" and "save this password" yet sites like Facebook, Google+ and many others keep logging me out, at *least* every other day and sometimes multiple times a day, so I have to login all over again- today I had the frustration of being logged out of a forum with each refresh of a page! (I'm logged in, hit "reply" and suddenly, "sorry you must login to do that!" HUH?)
I dont care if cookies never expire, and no one else but my husband has access to my computer and we know each other's passwords anyway.
I am hoping I can fix this without either reinstalling firefox or deleting the profile, because I have a pretty large bookmark file and about 9 add ons to reinstall, plus various plug ins!
I am starting to suspect its related to running out of cache space- sites can't seem to remember me when the cache is full?! , since its frequently at max (it was saying 350 max, now it says 500), I clear the cache whenever I notice its full. I did not clear it today until after it logged me out multiple times.

Incidentally, even replying by using the email link, I was logged out of this site already too, but not sure if that's default behavior or not.
It could be coincidence on the cache size because I don't constantly check it, but the times I have, it has fit that "theory", so I had to suspect it. It does ''seem'' with a clear cache, it takes longer before I get "forgotten".
None of my addons are specifically designed to clear cookies, and I don't think my security software (Bitdefender) is doing it either, as this issue far predated that particular installation.
Have done the "remove relevant cookies" thing a couple times before (I have been dealing with this for a very long time!) but it doesn't change the behavior.
I believe my ISP uses a dynamic IP setting for our DSL connection, changing a bit each time the modem restarts, and obviously there's nothing I can do about that. :( However, I most certainly did not change IP addresses between clicks of that forum I mentioned earlier!
It happens at sites that are unrelated to Yahoo or AOL, in fact Yahoo is actually a lot better about leaving me logged in, I'm rarely logged out there when I don't ask to be.
My connection setting was default as you noted: "use system proxy settings" but I changed it to "no proxy" on your suggestion.
I do not use anything that intentionally messes with or disguises my IP as far as I am aware.
X notifier does check all my email providers for new mail- Yahoo & Hotmail as well as Gmail, although Gmail is the only one of those that usually makes me log back in frequently. I can turn it off, but it would impossible to know immediately if it helped, because I can't predict exactly when I'll get logged out or not. Sometimes I can stay logged into a site for 2-3 days, (through browser closes and windows restarts) and sometimes only until I leave the site or close the browser. Or sometimes when I refresh the page apparently! Its just annoyingly often.
The "remember passwords" addon is also just a recent addition, this problem far preceded it, in case that makes anyone wonder.
I will delete the cookies for the sites that have recently dumped me, and disable my mail checker  and let you know how soon/if I am logged out against my will again.

  • How do i stop Safari from freezing while i'm surfing the internet?

Ok, so here's the problem. Every time I go onto Safari, it doesn't respond after i search for something on google or go on Facebook. now, i have to use Safari in Safe Mode each time and the audio is disabled so i can't watch or listen to music videos. Can someone tell me how to stop Safari from doing this? Thanks.

Maybe try another browser like Firefox.
Also, try creating a new user account on your mac, and log in to that, to see if you continue to have the same problems.

  • How do I stop the log in for itunes everytime I go there

I log into itunes or the app store and everytime it wants me to log in with user name and password and verify my email address. Why and how do I stop it

Have you completely logged out and logged back in? Sounds simple but possibly the system is trying to have you fill in additional information the next time you totally login.

  • How can I stop safari from showing my old entries in a drop down menu?

I want to make it clear that I am not talking about the url bar. I am refering to suggestions within a webpage where stuff is entered (for example online homeowork for college students). I cannot seem to figure out how to stop safari from filling in my old entries.
How can I get rid of this box?

Have you checked the Safari Preferences > AutoFill settings?  The Other forms setting is described as follows:
Let Safari save information you enter on webpage forms, then automatically fill in the saved information when you revisit the same webpages. To view or edit your saved information, click Edit.

  • How can I stop Safari switching off Keychain items I want to keep open? It's annoying!

I’ve got loads of passwords saved in Secure Notes in Keychain.
Typically I’ll open a Secure Note and copy and paste the passwords into a Safari page.
Now with Mavericks, as soon as I’ve pasted the password, the Secure Note is automatically switched off. I assume this is some sort of security feature? Trouble is, I quite often need to keep the Secure Note open for other reasons - so now I have to keep opening the same note!
Does anyone know how I can stop this?

Barney - I do value your help.
I’m particularly grateful that you have investigated my problem and have confirmed that A. It is true and B. It can’t be altered.
And I do appreciate that you have taken the time to look for a workaround issue for me.
As far as I can see our only disagreement is over your suggestion that the solution is to have separate accounts.
When I responded I wasn’t trying to be antagonistic - only to point out that in my case having separate accounts would be impractical.
My only complaint is levelled at Apple, not you! They have done something to Keychain Access / Safari that may be a benefit to others - but it is an irritation to me.
In an ideal world, I’d have an option in Safari Preferences saying something like: ‘Don’t let Autofill Passwords switch off Keychain Access Secure Notes after use’.
So, my sincere apologies if I have come across as ungrateful. I really do appreciate that people like yourself take the time to selflessly offer community support to people like me.
    Cheers

  • Safari constantly logging me out of most websites...

For about the last week, Safari has been constantly logging me out of websites like Facebook, Twitter, Hotmail, etc. It is getting quite frustrating so I'm hoping someone has a fix for it. It will only stay logged in for half an hour max. Please let me know if you have any tips or fixes!

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button. Delete Facebook, Hotmail, and any other site name you are having problems accessing then click Done.
Relaunch Safari and try logging in to one of those sites. If you still have problems, go back to Safari/Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies. Delete the cookies for those sites. Relaunch Safari and try again.
If you still have problems, quit Safari. Launch Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left. Delete the Facebook, Hotmail, and the "Safari Forms Autofill" keychains. Quit Keychain Access. Relaunch Safari. Navigate to Facebook. Enter your username and password as usual then click Yes when prompted. Same for the other sites.

  • Safari logs me out very often since IOS5

Since i have installed IOS 5 it's just impossible to write a message on a phpbb site because of the bug of safari that keeps logging me out.
I tried to delete all cookies and history, i shutted down the ipad but it's still there...
I found a very similar problem on the forum about a cookie bug on safari (mac os version) but it's apparently not solved...
I had the same problem on the precedent version but it was less often. It's not casual anymore, i just can't continue like this.
I think it's a major bug on a device which like ipad is designed for friendly navigation on the internet. Using phpbb may be 40 % of my activities on it.
I'll just abandon the browser if i can't find a fix or a solution.
    Any ideas ?

Try going to Settings > Safari, and look at the Accept Cookies box.  Tap on it and make sure it is either set to "From Visited" or "Always".  There seems to be a problem during the iOS upgrade process that causes this setting to get changed to not accept cookies, which will mean almost all sites where you have to log in will not work, or will work badly.

  • Safari logs me out

My browser (Safari) regularly (every 30 minutes/hour) logs me out of all pages I'm logged into. This happens while I'm using my macbook pro, not when I close it. Any idea what can be happening? Thanks

then we have a few possibilities for a problem:
    1. Your cookies file could be corrupted.
    2. A file that Safari uses could be harboring some corrupted data, but the file(s) themselves aren't necessarily corrupt.
If you want to test the first possibility,
    1. Quit Safari if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Cookies and delete the cookies.plist file.
    3. Restart Safari and test it on those sites you were having problems with. If that fixes the problem, then you don't need to do anything else.
