How do I stop sending iMessages to someone who no longer has an iPhone?

My friend and I both had iPhones, but she recently upgraded. Now when I text her, I have to turn iMessage off or the message would go to her old phone and not her new one. I want to be able to iMessage everyone else without having to switch it on and off. What can I do to change this?

If your friend no longer uses her old iPhone have her:
Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
Click on "edit products"
Click on the "x" to the right of the product.
Click "unregister"
This shoule deactivate her old iPhone with iMessage.

  • My iPhone is sending iMessages to someone who doesn't have an iPhone.

My friend's iPhone 4 was stolen two days ago. We're on the same plan. He activated his old non-iPhone to use in the meantime but my iPhone 4 keeps sending iMessages to him... which he's not receiving. I can turn off iMessages from the settings menu but then all my other iPhone pals will be getting texts from me instead of iMessages. I tried deleting him as a contact and then making a new one under his nickname thinking I could trick the phone into resetting it but it doesn't work... it still tries to send iMessages to him. Is there any way around this or am I just stuck until he gets another iPhone?

I just had this problem. I found this solution on a discussion board and it seems to have fixed the issue:
"So I finally realized (by accident) that you can tap on the text message you just sent, (the blue bubble imessage) and it'll ask "copy" or "send as sms"...and I chose send as sms.
After doing this about 5-6 times, it stopped automatically sending him imessages and started automatically sending him SMS messages instead!"

Can't send imessage to someone who has switched from android to iphone, but kept the same number

    One thing you can try
Turn iMessage off on your phone
Reset your phone - no data loss
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Then activate iMessage and start a new conversation and see what happens

  • Can't send messages to husband (he no longer has an iPhone)

My husband used to have an iPhone, but recently switched to a Droid.  Unfortunately, my phone seems to be convinced that he still has an iPhone and it will appear that he received my messages, but he never gets them.  If I switch to SMS, I can send him messages, but then other people have issues sending them to me.  Is there a way to tell my phone that he no longer has an iPhone?  I have changed the contact info for that phone number to say that the number is a mobile number, not an iPhone.
    Thanks!

Have you tried deleting him as a contact and deleting your chat history on iMessage then re-adding him and trying to text him? If you see the messages are being sent in blue, this means that it is being sent as an iMessage. You need to turn off your WiFi or 3G/LTE and it will send as a text (Only iOS devices can receive iMessages) Hope this helps.

  • How do I stop sending iMessage from e-mail?, How do I stop sending iMessage from e-mail?

When i send iMessage, it keeps sending it from my E-mail address. I don't know how to fix it, help...

Okay...so... I played around with the settings, because no one answered. And I fixed it, I will leave the question here with the anwser:
You have to go to Messages>iMessage>Send and recieve. Then you have to click on your e-mail and log of. I am sure there is a easier way, but this is the one i used.

  • My iphone 4 stopped sending imessages and can't receive replies from other iphones

My iphone 4 doesn't seem to send imessages all of a sudden. They show up green like normal messages. It also doesn't accept replies from other iphones.

Go into Settings>Messages>iMessage and see if it is activated. If it shows that it is on, then turn off for a couple of minutes, then turn it back on. Make sure that it activates. iMessage requires an active Internet connection to work, so make sure that you have either cellular data turned on, or you are connected to Wi-Fi.

  • How do i disable iMessage for a single contact who no longer has an iPhone?

I have a contact who has switched from an iPhone to a Galaxy and my default messaging is iMessage.  In order to get a message to send to her, I have to send the message, then manually resend it as a text message.  Is there a good way to permanently change this so that the default for this contact is no longer iMessage?

I'm looking for a solution on my end that does not require action by the other person.  The person has deregistered from imessage pursuant to Apple's suggestions (http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS5185).  However, the problem remains.  I've deleted the contact from my phone and reentered as not an iphone, and I still cannot text them.  Apple's policy/practice is hindering the use of another company's product.
Here's where I have a problem with it: (1) The average user doesn't know he has to actively opt out of a service that he didn't actively opt into; (2) it strikes me as a policy that discourages a consumer's free choice (to stop using apple products) by imposing undue and overly burdensome steps to using the full services of another--totally unrelated--company unfettered by some obscure lingering roadblock imposed through a previous business relationship; (3) although Apple offers a service (which did not work in our case), the average user is probably unaware, and therefore, the person who switched services does not necessarily realize that others cannot contact them despite their efforts; and (4) I assume and hope that the 'great minds' at Apple can figure out how to automatically opt non-users out of the imessage service just as it automatically opts in users.
I did not mean insane in the literal sense, more the colloquial.  However, I did mean unconscionable.  Without going into extensive detail of any number of reasonable hypothetical situations, what if there was an emergency and the person who purchased new services from another company is unable to receive an emergency message?  Say they were unable to receive a phone call because they are in and out of service coverage areas and the only chance of reaching them with an emergency message is via text that will go through when they briefly enter a coverage area?  That, in my opinion, is an example of how this is an unconscionable business practice.

Ever since I updated my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2 to IOS 6 all my iMessages are coming to both my iPhone and my IPad. How do I stop the iMessages I send and receive on my phone from receiving on my iPad as well? I have tried going into my settings and making sure I'm only set up to receive iMessages to my cell number and not my email....but that didn't fix the problem.

Here the way to do it, for both, or for only one Go into your settings, Messages and turn on iMessage. It will then send messages that are iMessages to both your iPad and iPhone. You can also turn off this feature on the iPad if you do not want to receive messages on the iPad.

  • My iPhone5 has stopped sending iMessages

My iPhone5 has stopped sending iMessages and instead is sending all messages as texts. Why has this happened and how can I stop it happening?

Sorry, I meant, you can set up iMessage to delete the messages after a certain time (  30days, one year) or choose to keep them indefinitely. This can be set up in Settings/Messages.
Also check if you activated "send as text if iMessage is not available".
What happens if those certain contacts are sending iMessages to your phone? Are they marked with the blue bubble as iMessages?
