How do I stop sharing downloads with other family members

Ive searched the threads and can't find an answer to my specific issue, being....
My son, wife, and I all share an itunes store Apple ID for purchases. Our iPhones, Mac Airs, iMac, and iPads itunes apps are all in the cloud. How can we prevent when someone buys something on the itunes store from automatically downloading to everyones library??
I buy an album, it begins to auto download to my sons library when he opens his itunes library. If I try to uncheck the auot download box in preferences on his library, the same boxes go unchecked in my library. If I have to do it manually, whats the point of being in the cloud?
Do I have to get everyone their own apple ID for itunes purchases?

Are you all using the same computer login with the same iTunes library?
If so, you cannot stop it because you are all using the same library.

How do I stop sharing mail with other users on my Macbook pro?

You may have to set up different user accounts in the computer if you wish to
continue sharing the computer among other people, and only use the Mail app.
Otherwise, if you use a webmail such as yahoo, gmail, or other, just use a browser
and login each time; then there is no saving of your email to the computer as such.
I've never used an email client software, nor had an ISP based email account. So
my numerous computers have never downloaded email into software. No loss.
But the answers do include setting up extra user accounts, not admin level, so the
other users do not mess with the operating system; a standard account or just a
guest account to use a browser to access web-based login email accounts, works.
There are third-party email client for OS X, some are free applications, others are
part of a larger browser product, such as SeaMonkey, & other Mozilla derivatives.
They provide an email segment or client aspect; unlike Firefox that's a browser.
Setup information should be within the Help viewer in the computer itself. Or by a
simple search online, including the OS X version and any email client software
your computer may have installed. Some browser software includes email client.
Also there are several ways to go in this matter. I don't see questions, only answers.
To learn how the Mail application works, if you want to import everyone's mail, then
figure how to set up user accounts in the OS X. Or use web-mail & login by browser.
Hopefully you can find the best solution for the unasked question.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Sharing apps with other family members

My husband and I have a desktop and two iPod touches. We have no problem sharing apps as we are using the same apple id.
I turned on home sharing so that I could share a couple of apps that we have purchased with my daughter. We authorized her laptop. We than transfered the purchased apps to  her laptop. Then, we transfered the apps to her iPod. We turned on home sharing on the iPod. She can't open the apps. They appear to open but do not complete. If we have to use the same apple ID on her iPod to access the apps, it seems rather silly to allow us to transfer apps as well as music via home sharing from one computer to the other. I hope I am just doing something wrong. I really think that she should be able to purchase apps and music herself with her own id if wanted rather than having to pay me back for purchases made with my account.
I think Apple has made this far too complicated.

I figured out how to do it. If it has nothing to do with home sharing, then why does home sharing let you set to automatically copy all apps purchased on one computer to another if home sharing is on on that computer. Unfortunately, even though home sharing appears to allow it, it doesn't work properly that way. But, all I had to do was log in to my apple id on her iPod and then download the apps that I  had purchased on her iPod and then I logged back out and the apps worked. I did the same with her iTunes.

  • How do I share songs with other family members?

I would like to know how I share songs and movies with other family members who have different accounts.

    - Sync them from a computer. You can sync music and videos from different computers/iTunes library manually. See the manual method  included in:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
    - You can also redownload the directly to a device if the device ha iTunes 5 or later by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
However, you may end up with the 90 day wait to. See:
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID

  • I have been sharing an apple ID and icloud with other family members. How do I change my iphone so as to create my own account?

I have been sharing I-cloud with other family members. How do I change my i-cloud setting on my i-phone so as to creare my own account?

If you want to keep your iCloud data, you would need to migrate your device and a copy of the data to a new account.  To migrate to a new account, start by saving any photo stream photos you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; others keeping the account will not be effected by this), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on your own account, you can go to icloud.com and manually delete any data you don't want in your account without effecting anyone else.

  • I am the administrator of my computer with other family members having accts. One member is grayed out and no one can access that acct.  Why and what do I do about it?

I am the administrator of my iMac with other family members having accts.
One members acct. is grayed out and cannot be accessed by anyone except him.
I had put parental controls on it but now I cannot access it or change anything.
    I don't have permission.??

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Family sharing not showing other family members' purchases

I installed Family Sharing about a week ago.  It worked great, and everyone was able to download music (didn't try apps). Now not listing any family members under Purchased in iTunes (whether on Mac or iOS).  Same for other family members.   In app store, I see other family members listed, but, if I click on it, it says they have no purchases (clearly not true).  Tried all hints at If you don't see your family's shared content - Apple Support with no luck.  Also, fully disabled family sharing and then re-invited everyone, but still no luck.  Any idea how to correct this issue?

I have the same issue. I can see my wife's purchases but on her phone, it says that I have no purchases. I also tried If you don't see your family's shared content - Apple Support and disabling family sharing and re-inviting her. I would also like to know how to fix this.

  • HT201229 How do I stop sharing messages.With IOS 7

My messages show up on my wife's phone and mine. Is this because we share the iTunes account? How can I stop this?

Yes because you two are sharing the same apple id for imessage prob for facetime and icloud.
You can share the same apple id for musics and apps, but different id, for imessage/facetime and icloud.
Go to settings - message - send&receive - you can be reached at - hit the circl i next to the apple id -  remove this email.
then whomever gets the new email go back there and then add the new apple id.

  • How to share the Photos library on iCloud Drive with other family members?

I have uploaded our family photo-library to iCloud drive (136GB+). It works great!
But how can my wife (with her own iCloud-account, but within the family) see and use our library?

Tnx for the reply, though I already feared this was the answer.
Family sharing works well for keeping contact lists separated and we do not need to see all the crap the other half shoots with their iPhone.
But as family-members, we DO want to use our communal photo-library.
It would be great if you could share your entire library with family-members or at least select which albums to share with who.
Also it is silly that you can share a photo only to one other iCloud-album. If I shoot a nice pic of the kids I would want to share it with my wife AND with others.
The same would work for contacts. The family-head should be able to assign which contacts are shared and which are separate.
I hope Apple will update the family-possibilities so that this is fixed.

  • How to use the sharing function with other pc on the Finder sidebar?

I discver my housemates' pc's names under "sharing" on the Finder sidebar. We all use the same wifi network at home.  Neither they nor I have enabled anything so I'm just wondering what is that for and where am I able to control sharing options?

  • I share itunes with other family members on my computer.  First time I synced my iPhone, I picked up all of their apps.  How can I avoid picking up their apps?

    How do I fix?

Just change your iPhone's sync settings -- with your iPhone connected to iTunes, click on the Apps tab and choose to sync only selected apps, then choose the ones you want loaded. You can also drag and drop them to where you want them on your iPhone.

  • Anyway to split account shared with other family members?

My daughter has moved out and would like to keep the songs she has downloaded from iTunes, but have her own account. Is there anyway to do this?

Music download from the iTunes Store can not be associated with another account. However, if the music has been purchased within the last 3 or so years then there is no DRM on the music and anyone can listen to it. But you should read the iTunes Store TOS to and make sure your family is adhering to it. http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/
