So how do I STOP skype trying to connect me to people though Facebook
Make sure that Firefox closes properly and that there isn't a hanging Firefox or plugin-container process left in the task manager.
Use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.

How do I stop iTunes from trying to connect to store?
Does anyone know please how to stop the "could not connect to iTunes store" error from appearing?
I deliberately do not want to connect to the store - my hard drive on this PowerBook is full, and it's now retired from day to day use and is used solely now as a music system with speakers attached.
Despite signing out of iTunes and disabling the store in the parental control panel, however, iTunes keeps wanting to connect to the store. Is there any code I can type in to stop this from happening?
My question is purely an aesthetic one: the error message springs up every half hour over the enlarged album cover flow, looking ugly, and pings the display back to the standard iTunes display. I don't want or need to connect to the store again on this computer.
Cheers
steveI don't have a good solution yet but I have the same issue.
Preferences:
Show = Podcasts, Applications, Radio.
Check for new software updates = unchecked.
Store = all "Automatically..." are unchecked and...
iTunes Store = disabled in Parental control.
View/Show Artwork Column = unchecked.
Advanced/ "Get Album Artwork" has never been clicked.
iTunes will still sometimes show "Accessing iTunes Store" when it's launched. Little Snitch verifies that it IS trying to make a connection. Little Snitch is a partial solution -- I blocked iTunes but then the app starts reeaallly slooowwllly if it tries to connect. There doesn't seem to be any traceable difference between when iTunes tries to connect on launch and when it doesn't.
I understand that software is licensed, not owned, but I pay for the network connection. I'm in a really old part of town and even 256K DSL comes with no throughput guaranty. I can't have things bogarting my network willy nilly without asking. Especially after I've set everything so that it doesn't need to connect. This is as ******** as the calculator connecting, without asking, with the URL hard-coded into the executable. -
How do I stop InDesign from trying to connect with a server?
I have a huge problem, either with InDesign or Apple I am not sure.
Basically when I bring my computer home from work every time I open InDesing it tries to connect to a server and I get this error message: the server XXX.local may not exist or is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
Why is InDesign trying connect to a server? Photoshop and Illustrator work perfectly well and function as a normal program. Indesign has no reason to do this as it shouldn't need to work through a server.
I get this error message and once I have dismissed it, it comes back after a few seconds and then stalls my computer again.
I really hope that someone can give me some idea of what is happening because the support in my country have not been at all helpful.CS5. I have been working with this program for over 10 years and I have never seen this before. I only have this problem at home and not at working. The drive it is trying to access is the timecapsule.local. As I said it is only with InDesign and all the other bundle programs are fine. It is not a pay per month and is a legitimately licensed business subscription.

How can I stop iCal from trying to connect to the server during corrections?
Recently, my iCal lost the connection to my gmail calendar (and my wife's), and as I was trying to fix it (by replacing the @ in the server address with a &40-something), it turned out that iCal started trying to connect again - but this time it had lost the proper password.
Now, it says something like "Server connection error: make sure you have the right password" - and then I'm supposed to click OK. When I do that, iCal immediately starts trying to reconnect, and I simply didn't have time to change my password or anything. Back to square one.
I figured I should reboot, but the iMac won't let me shut down before I've shut down iCal, which again can't be done before the "Server connection.."-dialog is closed. Back to square one.
My system is OS X 10.6.7, on a 2011 iMac.Quit iCal from the dock. To do this, click and hold on the iCal icon (in the dock), and select Quit from the pop-up menu and release the click to Quit the app.
If that fails, then click on the icon in the dock again (and while still holding the click on the icon ) press the Option key, and select Force Quit from the pop-up and release to Force Quit the app.
I'd go after the iCal server setting via the iCal > Preferences > Accounts panel, if that's not what you're trying here.
And if that fails, then reboot (probably unnecessary, but...), disconnect from the WiFi, launch iCal, and clean up the configuration error that way. iCal should get a different error on a network disconnect, and should then let you access the preferences.

How can I stop iTunes from trying to start in another open user account?
When I run iTunes, it often tries to open in another open User account, causing distracting Windows warning tones. How can I stop it from trying to automatically open in the other account?
Close iTunes before switching profiles or disable fast user switching.

How do I stop MobileMe from trying to sync
How do I stop MobileMe from trying to sync?
Hey narfee,
I found an article that can goes over how to unregister your computer from syncing.
MobileMe Sync: About registering and unregistering computers
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1074
It depends on what type of computer you're using, but I pasted the relevant steps below:
Unregister a computer from syncing
If you no longer want a computer to sync with MobileMe, you can unregister the computer from syncing. You can unregister any computer that is registered for syncing from any other computer with Mac OS X v10.4.11, v10.5.8, v10.6.x, OS X Lion, Windows XP, or Windows Vista, as long as you know your member name and password.
Unregistering a computer from syncing does not delete any data.
To unregister a computer from syncing:
Mac OS X v10.4.11
Open System Preferences
Click .Mac
Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
Click Unregister
Mac OS X v10.5.8, v10.6.x, OS X Lion
Open System Preferences
Click MobileMe
Click Sync
Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
Click Unregister
Note: In Mac OS X v10.5.8, if you unregister all computers you may be prompted to delete unwanted sync data. If you are no longer syncing with MobileMe, you can delete the unused sync data from the MobileMe servers.
Windows XP or Vista
Open Control Panel
Click MobileMe Preferences
Click Sync
Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
Click Unregister

Unknowingly I sent an email a couple of weeks ago to an outdated email address. I get an update from Mozilla every morning showing how many times it tried to resend that email the day before. But no instructions on how to stop it from trying to resend. Is there a way to stop the resending process? I already know the new correct email address.
Go to the Outbox and delete the mail.
The Outbox is under Local Folders. -
"Error setting up transcoder" Then how do I stop Encore from trying to transcode?
All my assets are DVD compliant MPEG-2s or AC3s made with MainConcept. All assets are set to "Don't Transcode". Yet when I try to build the ISO or DVD Folder, after the initial long pause the status window appears and within seconds I get this error.
This doesn't make sense to me. Why is Encore even trying to transcode anything? How do I stop it from doing so? What's the point in having the option to select "Don't Transcode" when its going to try and do it anyway?
Anyone found a way round this? This is really urgent as I must have this project done for Christmas day as its a present. ThanksWhat am I, a mind reader? ;)
If you can transcode other projects in Encore, then I'd suggest you do a SaveAs on the project, and then in the copied project, begin deleting assets until you can build without error. Then add them back one at a time and build again until you find the culprit(s). -

How do I stop Quicktime from trying to reset screen resolution?
I am running an AVID Media Composer video editing system on a WIN2000 platform, and just upgradeded to Quicktime 7.1 from 6 so I could run quicktime Pro.
Now every time I try to play a file in quicktime the screen flickers on and off as quicktime attempts to reset the screen resolution. Very annoying! If AVID is also running this causes AVID to crash (tough when you're using AVID to export a QT file!) Quicktime 6 never did this.
Is there a setting in Quicktime to stop this? Or alternately, can I switch back to a pro version of Quicktime 6?

I really hope that someone can give me some idea of what is happening because the support in my country have not been at all helpful. I am asking this same question on the Adobe forums.I get no messages from ID for InDesign or anything else and I am running CS5. I can't install Little Snitch because it is a work computer and my IT won't let me me do it. They have mentioned reinstalling it but our IT department haven't said anything more than that and frankly I don't think they would register as an issue that needs fixing as such.
The drive it is looking for is the timecapsule.local which I have turned off and on again and nothing has helped. -
How can I stop Mozilla from trying to install the updater everytime I open it?
I had issues where Firefox eats memory searching for updates. I disabled the Updater, now every time I open Firefox, it tries to reinstall it. so i open Fire fox, the computer asks me if I want to let the Mozilla Updater" make changes to my computer. I say no and then firefox opens. Is there anyway to keep "updater" from trying to install everytime I open firefox?
Do you mean the updating service that Firefox installs and that Windows runs in the background? You can turn that on and off with a checkbox in the Options dialog. See this article: [[Advanced settings for accessibility, browsing, system defaults, network, updates, and encryption]].

We like listening to music playing from wife's user account.
I want to do some work from my account.
I don't want iTunes to open on my user account.
It keeps trying to, giving me the alert beep and the "Cannot Open iTunes" alert.
How do I make it stop trying to automatically open on one account when it is already playing on the other account?
Again, I want to keep listening to what is playing through my wife's account, therefore I don't want it to open or try to open on my account.
Thanks for any guidance.Thanks. I messed up with my husbands iphone because I was told the wrong thing. Now everytime I sync his phone it makes it look just like the other phone I had. Do you know how I can fix taht for his phone? Any settings I can turn off that will prevent all of my apps/contacts, etc from auto populating his phone?
