How do I stop TB from including a text file inline, instead of making it only an attachment?

When I send text files, TB inserts them into the body, as well as attaching the files separately. I don't want them in the body, and I can't find a way not to do that. I've looked all through the options, but the only thing that's close refers to forwarding messages, and changing that did no good. Thank you.

OK, that explains a little. On my Web-based mail system, the files are attached, not embedded. When I sync that account (IMAP) with TB on my desktop, they're both embedded and attached. Time to look at the options on my desktop.
On the sending PC, TB shows the sent message with the text as both embedded and attached.
I've used TB for several years on my desktop, and have never noticed this behavior. I just had to replace the other PC, and changed from Eudora to TB. Maybe all of the options aren't set right, so I'll compare them to my desktop's settings.
I'm open to more suggestions if you have them.

This is an issue because many people use "reply to" from their iPhone and the previous messages are included at the bottom of the message. But they are not aware of the earlier messages. Now and again, especially when we have several ".cc" persons, a confidential discussion is messaged out to people who do not need to have it. In Outlook Exchange on my PC, I have this turned off. This means that when I want to include the original message, I select and copy it, then paste it at the bottom of the new message. That is much more secure.
In Nokia Symbian it was possible to leave out the original message. Can the iPhone do this?

There is no setting for this with the iPhone's Mail app - to include or not include the recieved message when replying to the message. The recieved message is included by default.

How to read a String from a simple text file.

I have a set up popup reminders, the content of which I have entered into a text file. I read the text and display it in a specially formatted JFrame/JPanel.
My question is, since readLine() has been deprecated, how do you read a simple line of text data from a file created by, say, notepad? I guess I could just use readLine() anyway, but I want to learn the language, and "playing by the rules" seems to be the way I should go.

How do I stop Mail from including myself in 'reply to all' emails?

I often am in email conversations with many participants. I have to use the 'reply to all' functionality daily and it keeps adding my own email address in the list of CCs. Now, I figured, that this could be because of my exchange accounts aliases. So I get email to address2 and only my address1 is configured in Mail.
Okay, but how do I add the alias to the exchange account? When I try editing it in Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts -> Account Information, the field email address is greyed out. Unlike all other email accounts I have configured, the exchange account doesn't seem to let me edit the email address field.
Why is that, and how can I circumvent this inability? Commandline maybe? Any clues?

The solution could be, as I suggested, to add multiple aliases in the email field. Now, instead of using command line to change the accounts.plist file, as some users hinted, it works to do the following:
change the outgoing (smtp) server on the exchange account.
switch to another tab (save)
switch back to the exchange account and add the aliases (the field is no longer greyed out)
save again
be happy and confused at the same time.

How can I stop Verizon from sending me texts and calling my phone?

I am not the primary on the account. The primary has called and complained numerous times and was told each time, my number isn't in the system and I shouldn't be getting these, but the calls and texts keep coming, dozens per month, every month. When I get the calls, I push the number to let them know they are calling the wrong number, it tells me to wait for customer service and when they answer they wont talk to me because I am not the primary. I am so upset by being harassed by the 10 calls and messages per day and no one will help me. Somebody help stop these automated calls and get my number out of the automated call and text system! I need a solution.

My next suggestion is to simply change your cell number on this line. However I frown upon doing so since I believe you may end up with a worst set of annoyance calls then you are receiving now. Its a crap shoot.
Often times it takes almost 30 days for your number to be purged from verizons calling or marketing system. Just wait for that time to elapse before doing any number change.
At my verizon you can block up to five text or telephone numbers for 90 days. If they are not internal verizon business numbers you can block them
Please note these calls you receive can be external telemarketing calls who are pestering verizon customers via auto dial.
You can send unwanted texts to #spam and follow the instructions.

How do I stop iTunes from automatically opening .wav files

I recently arranged to have voicemails to a business number sent to me in the form of .wav files that I check at the end of the day from my home PC. I was disappointed to learn that when I open the email and double click the .wav file it automatically imports it to my music library in iTunes (also selecting to be synched). I am just trying to get these files to open in Quicktime. Any help?

How do I stop firefox from pre-downloading a file during a file download prompt?

I use DownThemAll as my download manager for files generally over 10MB, as my internet connection is generally too slow for firefox to download a file larger then this without firefox "finishing" a download before it's complete, corrupting the file. This never happens with DownThemAll.
For some sites, either there is no download link to right click or it starts automatically, launching the download prompt. Firefox's internal download manager automatically starts downloading the file (not visibly, but in the background) before I can choose to use DownThemAll from the prompt instead.
This wastes bandwidth. Even worse, some hosting sites have randomly generated download gates for each session that expire after disconnection or limit you to a single download in a given time frame. This means that I effectively can't use DownThemAll on certain websites because firefox's own download manager steps in and gets in the way.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

HT1688 My phone's iMessages are being sent to a the intended addressee. However in addition to him, his father's email account just recently started receiving our texts last night. How can we stop him from receiving our texts and replying in our thread?

I've tried turning iMessage on and off, his son has deleted his iCloud account in suspiscion that that was the cause of the problem, etc.
We've been texting for months without problem. This morning his son texts me, "Good morning," and then his father replies into our thread, "Good morning to you too!" I checked my contact, and I never had his father's email account before nor was his email a part of his son's contact. Please help me to stop him reading our messages. Thank you.

You don't necessarily need to change the Apple ID for iMessage, in Settings > Messages > Received At > On each device have them uncheck any number/email that does not belong to that device

And when I shut down, I have to deselect the Reopen windows... or the computer starts back up with all the stuff I was using at the end of the day. Look at System Preferences > General > uncheck "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" under the Number of Recent items label.

erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.
