How do I stop the Mac Store App from opening upon startup of my Mac Book Pro? It will not let anything else open and then it stalls when I try to close the window.

Deselect that option and the check mark will disappear.

My software update shows that no update is available for my machine. It shows that it is running Snow Leopard 10.5.8, downloads for the 10.6.8 update will not open. I am trying to get the mac store app so I can upgrade to Lion.

I have not been successful in obtaining the latest version of Snow Leopard so I have the Mac Store app. My computer shows that there are no updates available even though it only shows it running version 10..5.8. I would like to upgrade to Lion. When I download the .dmg updates from the web, they try unsuccessfully to open in Itunes or Quicktime. I can not get them to run. What is my next step?

As noted, in order to update from OS X 10.5.x to OS X 10.6.x you will need to acquire the retail package for OS X 10.6; that initial jump can not be done via download.
The current shipping retail version for OS X 10.6 is 10.6.3. Once you have installed that you can update it to OS X 10.6.8 via the Combo Update - running Software UPdate should be able to fetch that for you. You can also download it directly -

Once you have installed that you can download and install the update for OS X 10.7 (Lion).

This isn't the fault of firefox. Firefox is a web browser, not your email provider. I'd suggest contacting them (whoever you use, gmail, yahoo, etc.) and asking for help.

I have resolved the problem. Steps to resolution:
1. Deleted all applications inside the folder "Automatically added to iTunes," many of those apps were also inside the Mobile Applications folder.
2. Next, I uninstalled iTunes, and downloaded the latest version of iTunes.
3. Restarted the computer.
4. Installed the newest version of iTunes.
This repaired the problem.

If your goal is to just reinstall Mountain Lion, you can restart the computer holding the Command and R keys, then choose the reinstall OS X option from the utilities choices presented to you.
That restarts the computer using the recovery hard drive that was created when you installed Mountain Lion...but note you must have an internet connection when you do this reinstall.

iPhoto seems to be viewing the iPod as a camera. Therefore go to iPhoto's General preference pane and select No application in the Connecting camera opens: menu.

All the iPad 2 apps running on iOS 5 that are compatible with the iPad 1 will be put on your iPad 1. Those apps that require a camera will not appear because the iPad 1 does not have a camera.
