How do I stop the "Meet Mozilla Firefox" page from opening in a second tab when I launch my browser?

Since the latest update, every time I open my Firefox browser, it opens two tabs. The first tab is a "Meet Mozilla Firefox" tab and the second is my Yahoo! homepage. How do I stop the meet mozilla tab from opening and only have my yahoo homepage open?

Refer to this help article on [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page?s=home+page&r=0&as=s How to Setup the Home Page].
If this still doesn't work, do the following:
* in the address bar type "'''about:config'''";
* click the button "I'll be careful I promise";
* in the bar type "'''browser.startup.page'''";
* right-click on it, and change the value to "'''0'''";
* re-start your browser.
Hope this helps.
Edit: just changed formatting.

  • How do I stop the facebook log in page from opening multiple windows in my browser?

    When I boot up my computer and click on Chrome to open a window, multiple Facebook log in pages will open, each in a new tab. This is happening randomly. I will also often have some facebook photo URL trying to open - there's usually nothing on those pages. How can I stop this?

    Hi Lmax,
    You are clicking on Chrome, which is not a browser we support. If you are having this issue with Firefox, please change the tab settings in the Preferences/Options menu > General
    Try the Chrome support [https://support.google.com/chrome/?hl=en]

    ''I uninstalled AOL IM and disabled MetaStream 3 Plugin but that didn't work either. I don't currently have viewpoint media player that I'm aware of. ''
    '''''MetaStream 3 Plugin''' MetaStream 3 Plugin r4 Unknown plugin Research''
    This is apparently the Viewpoint Media Player plugin '''npViewpoint.dll'''. Even though you don't see the Viewpoint Media Player listed in your list of installed programs, it might be listed as a different application.
    Disabling the MetaStream 3 Plugin in the Firefox Add-ons Manager removes it from the about:plugins list but apparently does not stop the PluginCheck from finding it. You should re-enable the MetaStream 3 Plugin in the Firefox Add-ons Manager list of plugins. You can then find and remove the plugin file '''npViewpoint.dll''' from your computer, using the following instructions, from this thread at mozillazine:<br>
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2224319 Plugin check is happening with each start up
    '''Winston_Smith wrote:'''<snip>
    The Plugin Check page listed about eight plugins with status listed as "unknown plugin." It turns out that the very last one on the list, ''''MetaStream 3 Plugin'''', which dated all the way back to 1/13/2004, was the one triggering this "Update" Nag. Here's what I did.
    #Enter about:config into the address bar
    #Locate the preference 'plugin.expose_full_path' by typing it into the filter bar
    #Toggle that preference true (right click, toggle)
    #Enter about:plugins in the address bar
    #The resulting "Installed Plugins" list will now show the full path and file name of the associated plugin DLL file.
    #Simply go to the directory of the suspect plugin (using Windows Explorer or whatever) and rename the DLL file (I just appended '.OLD' to the DLL file name, e.g., ''''npViewpoint.dll'''.OLD')
    #Quit firefox (file, exit) and restart.
    #If you don't get redirected to the Plugin Check page then problem solved. If you do get redirected to the Plugin Check page then the plugin you just nuked (by renaming the DLL file) should be gone from the list.
    #Repeat with the other "unknown plugins" until you don't get redirected upon Firefox startup.

  • How can I stop the "Welcome to Firefox" page appearing before my default page everytime I access Firefox

    Every time I access Firefox (my preferred browser) the "Welcome to Firefox" page pops up rather than my default page (Google). This started when I upgraded to the latest Firefox. I have had a good look but can see no way to prevent this. I have locked in my default page but Firefox seems to over ride this. I like to have control over my computer rather than dealing with pop up pages determined by others. Can you assist please?
    Geoff Start

    I had this problem by updating to the new version through the help/about Firefox update feature. The '''ONLY''' way I found to resolve this was to totally uninstall the previous version of Firefox including all cookies and traces of Firefox. I backed up my cookies and bookmarks first of course... then, uninstalled and reinstalled the new 9.0 version with a fresh downloaded version of the new Firefox and the problem was '''ABSOLUTELY RESOLVED'''. The other methods of going to tools / options and setting the home page etc. just didn't work at all. THIS WORKED!

  • I installed Firefox 29.01 but two pages keep popping up, my home page and the what's new in Firefox page. How do I stop the What's New page from popping up?

    I installed Firefox 29.01 but every time I open it my home opens and so does the What's new in Firefox page. I want to disable the What's New page and only want the home page to open up but everytime I start Firefox both pages open up.

    hello, this might happen when firefox is not able to properly save preferences in its profile folder. please try this: Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and then click help [[Image:Help-29]] > troubleshooting information > profile folder - "show folder". then a new window will open up. in this window look out for a file named '''user.js''' (it might be used to overwrite your custom settings). in case it is present , delete or rename this file and restart firefox afterwards.

  • How do I stop the Xfinity Log in page from popping up?

    If I am near a xfinity hot spot, xfinity log in screen pops up on the screen of my iphone whenever I am checking emails or browsing on the internet.
    I am not subscribed to the service and I have no intention to subscribe either, it's quite annoying, because it keeps happening and I couldn't find a way to prevent it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I do not want to turn wifi on and off.  I think I may have fixed it by going to settings -> General-> Reset->Reset Network Settings.  This should hopefully make my phone forget all of the "known networks".  I will have to re-associate with the networks I use all the time but none of them are xfinity and I am hoping this keeps that very annoying xfinity screen away.

  • How do I get my homepage to come up instead of "Meet Mozilla Firefox" page?

    I updated to Firefox 8 and ever since that, when I open it, a box pops up saying it's checking for add on compatibility or something like that and my homepage comes up in a tab but the "Meet Mozilla Firefox" page comes up as the first page you see. I would rather not see that every time as I've already gone through all the things on the page. In the options for homepage, it is set correctly for my usual page, but that is not what comes up.

    Try this:
    Click on the Contacts icon
    Select the Menu key
    Select Settings
    If the Only contacts with phones is checked, uncheck it

  • How do I stop extra instances of Firefox program being opened by another page when it loads?

    How do I stop extra instances of Firefox program being opened by another page when it loads?
    When I log on to a favorite site it loads OK. The site has a number of pages. When I move to the second or third page, a second instance of Firefox automatically starts and loads an advertisement. I can block the site that tries to load the page, but I cannot stop the second instance of Firefox from loading up. So in the end I might have three or four instances of Firefox all going at once.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.<br />
    You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.<br />
    Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

    How can I stop the auto-saving of Pages version 4.1?

    Why not just open your eyes !
    Under 10.6.8, we had two menu items :
    Save and Save As…
    Now we have a single Save…
    Since the first delivery of the macintosh,
    a menu item whose name ends with ellipsis is one which always open a dialog.
    Under 10.6.8 and older the Save button was used to save and already saved document without opening a dialog.
    If the document was never saved, it behaved as the Save As… one.
    With Lion the Save feature : save an already saved once document is no longer required as the system autosaved everything.
    There was no reason to keep this aspect of the Save item.
    Remaining tasks are those which were dedicated to the Save As… button.
    The engineers choose to drop one op the now duplicating items.
    The synthesis is the Save… item which clearly state what it is supposed to achieve.
    Triggering it, we may :
    change the name used to save
    change the destination folder
    export as .doc
    export as Pages '08
    Of course there is always the black triangle allowing us to use the stripped dialog or the full one.
