How do I stop the spinning wheel that replaced the cursor in a Word document?

Something is causing Word to lock up. Restart the laptop and/or reinstall Office/Word to fix the instability. Maybe even a bad plugin or document could be causing this if it's only happening when you open a particular doc.

You have to consider the possibility the hard drive may be dying. If your data isn't backed up, try one of the tools below:

How do i stop a spinning coloured wheel? I have a cd of photos in the external disc drive which will not eject. I have about 20 photos from the cd on my desk top which i cannot close. Any help will be much appreciated as i can't do anything on the computer till i solve this problem.

Quit the application you are using to view the photos then drag the CD icon to the Trash. The Trash icon should turn into an Eject icon.

HELP Word crashed with the spinning wheel, i need the Doc , HELP!!!!!

My wife was working on a word document and i got the spinning wheel when she tried to do a spell check. I can't quit word as my wife need the document for her college course and she didn't save it, before she did tyhe spell check. Would it had been stored as a temp file that i can recover in some form. ...and if you're still having problems try a Safe Boot: restart holding down the Shift key until you see a grey progress bar. Once booted, restart as normal from the Apple menu.
If none of this helps, what version of OS X are you running? We need this info in order to offer ideas for other measures.

When I tried to sleep my computer last night as is my habit, I had the spinning wheel going on the desktop screen. I finally gave up and went to bed only to wake up this morning with the wheel still spinning. In trying to troubleshoot I went to disc utility/first aid and clicked on verify disc permissions. A couple of items jumped out at me...
User differs on "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtual Machines/ 1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib" Should be 0 is 95
Warning SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified will not be repaired.
After running permissions repair I decided to start the process over again with "verify permissions" only to find that all the original permissions variances came up just as they were the first time.
What is going on with this? Help.

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:

Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.

Back up your documents and everything else important to you, not that there is any reason to believe your hard disk may be failing, but the symptoms you describe may presage an impending disk failure, and you should have backups anyway.
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:

How do I stop the spinning ball that keeps going and going and going. I think I have to remove cookies, but I don't know how.

I think I solved it.
I searched my extensions folder (in my profile) for all image files (PNG and JPG), and found the pop-up images to be in an extension folder related to Firefox Sync (not an external extension, actually). But even though I had already disabled it and un-linked this computer from Firefox Sync, the message still popped-up.
I think the image filename was SYNC.PNG, or something like that. Close Firefox, find the folder where that image is in, and rename the main folder (the one right under the extensions folder) to some other name (such as "original name_copy"). Then start Firefox. Check if it works OK and if the pop-up ceases to appear. If everything OK, then you can delete that folder.
If something goes wrong, just rename the folder to what it was before.

I get the SWOD using Safari, Mail, Google chrome, Firefox, Mathematica, and other programs. This cannot be a browser plug-in issues as other forums suggest. I suspect a windows process at the root but I don't enough to know how to trace. Does anyone know what's causeing this epidemic?

I'll start with just an example of what I've been facing. During the composing of this post, when I switched from Firefox to Word, I had to wait 60 seconds before the spinning wheel stopped and I got a cursor. I then copied one set of Etrecheck results, switched back to Firefox, hit Command-v to paste and had to wait 45 seconds or so for the spinning wheel to stop. And the paste operation didn't paste until I hit Command-v again (with no wait this time).
Here's what I've done:
I tried three times to run a scan with avast! and all three times the scan was unable to complete.
I restarted holding down Command-r and it found and fixed many permissions, but found no problems with files.
I ran Etrecheck in a "Safe Boot" and in a normal startup and there were two things that were tagged as "[failed]" in the normal startup:

Is there another way to adjust tempo of loops the faster way, any other technique?

No clue why the final processes have suddenly started to take so long. Two things I'd try: a) capture from an older tape to see if some problem with the new tape is at fault. And b) check the health of your RAM and the hard drive.
The red frame sounds a bit like a glitch we used to have in OnLocation (actually in its predecessor HDV Rack) which was caused by a partial GOP. But that was a product of HDV Rack recording from the live video stream. It turned out that HDV cameras intentionally interrupt the data stream for an instant upon starting to record--specifically to avoid recording a partial GOP to tape. So my gut says that the tape has partial GOPs at the points where you stopped/started recording.

I want to delete my mac account and replace it with my gmail account. I know how to do this but when I click and open up mail I get the spinning wheel and have to force quit mail.

I want to disable my mac.com mail, I know how to delete it but I cannot get into mail to do this, whenever I click on mail, or mail in system preferences to open it I get the spinning wheel and have to force quit. I am running a Macbook 10.7.5

You can't merge Apple IDs. You also can't cancel (delete) and existing ID, you can only choose to stop using it.
If your old ID was compromised and you can no longer access it, you'll have to contact Apple for assistance. Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services' at the bottom of the page. In the next page click 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID'. In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then then 'Apple ID account Security’.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
