How do I stop the "Your Firefox is up to Date" page from loading after upgrading to ver. 6.0?
I upgraded from Firefox 3 point something or other (if I could remember exactly, I'd tell you) about 2 weeks ago to version 6.0. Thereafter, Firefox always starts up with two pages; one is a page declaring "Your Firefox is up to Date" and, on another tab, the default home page for Firefox. (the Google one)
It has continued to do that ever since, and I cannot find a way to stop the "Your Firefox is up to Date" page from loading at start-up.
I'm running a pc with WinXP Professional w/Service pak 3.
A suggestion for stopping the "Your Firefox is up to Date" page from loading at startup.
Use MozBackup for this; get it at http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/.
A good user friendly tutorial on it's use can be found at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/2418/backup-your-mozilla-based-software-with-mozbackup/.
Download MozBackup and read through the howtogeek tutorial.
Exit Firefox.
Open MozBackup and start the procedure.
Follow the procedure except for a part where you RESTORE the profile; in the Components selection window in MozBackup, UNCHECK the "General settings" box (you remember the General tab in the Tools/Options window in Firefox where your homepage info is kept?)
Continue with the procedure to the end.
When you re-open Firefox, you should be getting the Google homepage without the "Your Firefox is up to Date" page.
Go to Tools/Options/Privacy tab. If it looks different than what it used to, ie: you used to have the option to not accept cookies, etc and now you don't, open the drop-down menu in the Hisory portion there and click on "Use custom settings for history", which will provide options for more control.

For the past month, every time I open Firefox, the Mozilla Start Page (with Google in the middle) takes over my home page setting (NY Times). How can I stop this from happening?
To the extent that I could, I tried the above, despite the lack of clarity at times. For example, how do the uninitiated find "sessionstore.js" and "sessionstore.bak" and the Firefox profile folder? Assuming that I eventually find them, what in the world does "check for problems" mean?
There are many of us out here with limited to moderate computer sophistication, and more detailed suggestions would be much appreciated. I am in the moderate to high category, but much of your response was marginally useful, to be kind. Not to say that I don't appreciate what you have written. -
Just installed Firefox on my second Windows machine (running XP Home). Unlike my other installation, every time I start Firefox I get TWO tabs - my home page AND a "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" that contains only a Google search input. I don't need the useless start page, but haven't found anything that tells me how to stop it from loading.
Try This works good for those who aren't computer tech savvy like me
Type about:config in the address bar
Click I'll be careful, I promise if prompted
In the Filter input field type startup
Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
Delete the text string and click OK
Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
Hopefully this helps!
I just tried this myself and it totally worked for me Good Luck -
When I installed Firefox on my iMac, a dialog box appeared telling me to drag the Firefox logo into the Applications folder, which I did. Firefox works fine, but every time I open it this dialog box opens before Firefox does, and I have to close it out. This is irritating. How can I stop it from opening again?
Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.

How do I stop the "Reset Firefox" prompt appearing when there is no need for it?
Every time I start Firefox I now get the reset firefox prompt in the status bar:
"It looks like you haven't started Firefox in a while. Do you want to clean it up .... etc."
I use Firefox practically every day, so it is not true that I haven't used it in a while. After a bit of research, I read that Firefox may display this prompt if it has diagnosed other problems, particularly with add-ons. I haven't noticed any problems in my normal use, and I don't think that it is reasonable to expect me to wipe all my installed add-ons and then re-install and re-configure them again just to make this annoying prompt go away, when it is not giving me any details about the so-called "problem".
Is there any way of getting Firefox to tell me what it thinks the problem is so that I can try to fix it? Failing that, can this prompt be disabled completely?I have repeated the test with nightly, but this time created the new profile on a local filesystem (ext4 FWIW) rather than an NFS-mounted one. As before the timestamp on .parentlock is not updated when firefox exits, so almost certainly a bug. If there is a problem with permissions/ownership, that problem is created by firefox, so still a bug :-) (given that the profile is a brand new one).
I'll report this on bugzilla as soon as I can. -
firefox compatibility checker runs on each start of FF and Hooray, your FF is up to date always displayed too, have tried all the obvious like resetting homepage, but no joy

How do I stop the fake "Adobe Reader out of date" hijack
In IE I will get a fake "Adobe Reader out of date" screen from newupdate24.com. The screen looks official. I clicked on the update message and got loaded up with virus and malware.
The IE phishing filter is enabled and has no effect.gwbcomm001 wrote:
This is some kind of malware or phishing. I just had a "update to Adobe Reader professional" in Chrome.
I'm sure you're probably correct about that but, it's not a Reader or Adobe issue. You'll want to start searching around for a forum or support site that has folks that deal with this sort of thing. Good luck. -
How do I stop the "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" tabs from opening whenever I select "Home"?
I get multiple instances of this annoying tab opening whenever I select Home, or open a new tab. I have found nothing in Options to turn this off.
You may have set multiple home pages.

Everytime I close my browser and have to restart it, not only do I lose the Persona I was using, but I also get the welcome to Mozilla page in a tab along with my homepage. It is getting quite annoying.
Hi tabyjo,
You should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved]. It might be a pref.js issue. These should give you all the information you need!
If that doesn't work:
# Type about:config in the address bar
# Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
# In the Filter input field type ''startup''
# Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
# Delete the text string and click ''OK''
# Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.

How do I stop the scatter effect being contained in an images frame in After Effects?
I have an image that I want to make scatter with the scatter effect, but when I add the scatter it hits the square frame of my image.
I would like the scatter to go further and not be contained in the square but I'm not sure how to do this.
I would appreciate if anyone could give me some pointers on this. Thanks.
p.s. Im using the CS3 version of After EffectsPre-compose the image by putting it in a larger comp, then using that composition as a layer in your main composition. You can then appyl the effect there and it will expand beyond the boundaries of the original image.

I just can't get the browser to open up to just my home page when I click on it. It '''always''' opens the firefox browser page http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/9.0.1/whatsnew and then proceeds to open up to my home page in a second window.

I've tried shutting off my ad blocker, but this is still happening; anything you can do to help will be great. In case one of your other extensions is involved, could you test those pages in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
Any difference?
