How do i store folders on iCloud?

Hello,
I was wondering if or how I can use iCloud like Dropbox, where I can just drop documents or folders onto iCloud. Is this possible?

Make a search to have a look at the tip named "Using iCloud to sync multiple document types" under iDisk tag. This should explain you how to use iCloud as Dropbox in particular to sync several Mac together.
Aplle should advertise on it and make easier to implement this lost function of MobileMe.

How can I store files on iCloud?

Actually, I have found that this is very possible, combining several other tips from around the web, though perhaps not easy.  I am using Moutain Lion.  I am assuming that you have already activated and signed into iCloud previously.  Here are the steps for creating a cloud storage location that you can drage any file into, and access from any of your Macs:
    1) Create a new folder in the directory that is synced with iCloud.  Start by opening a Finder window, and going to the ~/Library/ directory.  Do this by typing Shift-Command-G while the Finder is open, and typing ~/Library in the goto window.  Next, open the directory "Mobile Documents".  Finally, Control-Click inside the Finder and select the "New Folder" option, naming it whatever you like -- I chose "iCloud".
    2) Step two is about creating a shortcut to this iCloud folder in the Finder.  You cannot directly drag the iCloud folder into the Favorites section of the Finder, but you can do this:  Control-Click on your new folder, and select "Make Alias".  Now, drag this alias over to your Favories panel in the finder.  You will be prompted whether you really want to move the Alias out of iCloud: Say "Yes".  Now, delete the Alias -- you don't need the original instance of it any more. (Alternatively, you can skip to the end of step 3 and drag the symbolic link into the Finder Favorites)
    3) Step three is about being able to access this iCloud folder from the Unix command line, and from the Desktop GUI.  Open a Terminal window (Launchpad => Other => Terminal).  By the way, I recommend putting the Terminal into your Taskbar, if it isn't already.  You should be in your home directory ... to verify, type "cd" and press Enter.  Now, create a Unix symbolic link (an Alias won't work for this) to the actual location of the iCloud folder:
Type "ln -s ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/iCloud/ iCloud" and press enter.  The command should be entered precisely, I recommend cut and paste.  The first character is a lower case "L" and there is a space after the backslash between "Mobile" and "Documents".  You should now have a symbolic link to the iCloud folder created.  To view it in the Finder, go to your home directory: Shift-Command-G, and then enter "~/" into the window.  You should see a folder called "iCloud" there, with a little arrow animation in the corner.  You can drag this into the Taskbar to have a permanent clickable shortcut.  You can also access the contents of this folder through the terminal.  From your home directory, just type "cd iCloud" and press Enter.  You are now in the iCloud folder (or more properly, your local version of it), and can use the usual Unix tricks ... "ls" to list contents, "mkdir ABCD" to make a new directory called "ABCD", "mv a.txt b.txt" to rename a file "a.txt" into "b.txt", etc.
    4) Step four is about accessing this folder on other machines.  On a second Mac, repeat all of the steps above *EXCEPT* for creating the New Folder in step 1 ... it already exists, but you can get it into your finder bar, and create sym-links in the same way from there.
The great thing about this is that when you work, you are editing a *local* copy of the file, so you can work offline if you like.  Then, whenever you have internet access, the *actual remote* cloud copy of any new or modified files is uploaded.  Likewise, updated files are downloaded from the cloud to get your local files into sync.  You have the benefit/safety of a local hard copy, AND the portability (and extra safety) of cloud storage.  It's exactly what I wanted, and it works like a dream.  Plus, time machine can back up your *local* copies, to maintain version history.  I'm not quite sure what happens if you try to simultaneously edit a file from two places, but don't do that.
    Hope that helps you!

How do I store documents and files on icloud?

Through the apps themselves, what files were you thinking of.
By the way, if your profile is correct, you don't have iCloud. iCloud comes with OSX 10.7.2 or later.

How do you store apps in the Icloud??

By either restoring your iCloud backup, which will restore all data, settings, apps and other purchased media contained in the backup, or by redownloading them from the app store as discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 (which will restore the app, but not any app data).

  • HT4597 How do I store files on iCloud like I used to do on iDisk?

I used to store important files on my iDisk. Can't figure out how to upload to iCloud.

iCloud does not provide general file storage in the manner of iCloud. You will need to find a third party alternative - this page examines some options:

  • How to create new folders on iCloud Drive from iOS or with document picker?

Recently I wanted to share several files from my iWorks suite with my colleagues. I do not want them to edit these files, instead I made templates in Numbers for easier management of hours worked. Everyone could download their copy and keep a track of their hours themselves. The problem is, not everyone has an Apple product.
Unfortunately, iOS does not support native browsing of iCloud Drive (except the document picker, which, to me, isn't helpful at all), the only way I know of - to create a new folder - is to open iCloud.com in Safari, request the desktop site and make a new folder from there.
Is there another way of creating new folders, preferably an official app from Apple or from within an iWorks app or the document picker that I do not know of? Or is this actually a missing feature?
Also, if Apple could make an app similar to Microsoft OneDrive, that would be great.

Yes, there is a way. Here is the workaround. You can add notes folders directly with your iPad or iPhone.

  • How do I store documents on iCloud?

I'd like to access documents from my iPhone that I've created on my MacBook Pro. In the way that I could access documents on mobile me.
    thanks

You can use iCloud to access documents created by apps such as Pages and Numbers. There is no way to store documents not created by apps specifically designed for iCloud.
In the way that I could access documents on mobile me.
That method ended with Mobile Me.

    You don't.
Movies are streamed only with Netflix.

  • How do I access folders in iCloud Drive when in Keynote, Pages or Numbers?

I have upgraded my iOS to 8 and Mavericks to Yosemite beta. I created folders in Finder (under iCloud Drive) and can see them in the web apps in iCloud. However, files that I moved to those new folders are nowhere to be found on the iPad or iPhone. I have noted that as long as I keep them in the default folders that transferred over, they do show up. But, this is counter productive as I would like to be able to better organize my folders and files. Is this something that Apple will eventually figure out or will it always be steps behind. I really like iWork (save for Numbers, perhaps) and would use it more often if these simple things could get worked. out.

I'm having the same problem bpay14, but with a CalDigit VR2 6TB RAID0 external hard drive.
One day it was showing on my desktop, the other it wasn't. And I still didn't update my Mavericks to 10.9.3 (still with the 10.9.2).
It shows up in the disk utility, and I can even Verify the disk and Repair it (but I don't wanna start repairing
something that probably doesn't need to be repaired, so I haven't clicked the Repaid button, only the Verify button) and it says its working just fine.
But it doesn't show in the Finder or the desktop for that matter.
And even if I force disconnect the cable, I get the usual "this disk was not ejected properly" notification
presumingly the disk was mounted on the desktop and I forced eject by unppluging it...
I found a way to force open the disk, through Disk Utility that's by clicking with the right mouse button
on the disk icon, and chosing OPEN "CalDigit AFRICA 6TB"... (see picture 1)
But... after that, it open a Finder window showing all my internal and external drives, but that drive's
name is in washed grey, like if it was unmounted (see picture 2).
When selected, I can see everything and work normally on the harddrive, even opening FCPROX projects or Libraries, copying from it and writing documents into it... just normal... (see picture 3)
BUT IT DOES NOT SHOW IN THE DESKTOP...
    that's my problem...
I even did a Command+i for Info on the hard drive. (see picture 4)
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?
    I would be eternally grateful!
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Cheers!

  • How do you store music on icloud?

I just went to back up my iPod onto my old computer since I cannot back it up onto my new one obviously and I noticed that it gave me an option to back my ipod up onto iCloud on my computer. So I went onto my iPod to access iCloud and it will not let me back up my music onto iCloud via my iPod. Its not even listed as an option. Any suggestions?

Any purchases you have made through the iTunes Store are already stored in the cloud and can be re-downloaded at any time from the purchased section in the iTunes Store.
If you wish to store more than purchased music in the cloud, then you will need to subscribe to iTunes Match.

The iDisk will disappear, and its contents be erased, when MobileMe terminates at the end of June. iCloud does not provide an equivalent replacement, so you will need to look for a third-party alternative. This page examines some options:

I had a MobileMe account and when Apple switched to iCloud I now have two mail accounts: @mac and @me. Additionally my folders in iCloud no longer show up in my Mail program on my iMac. How do I return to one account and see my iCloud folders on my mac?

I went to Notes.  Showed all notes.  Three notes are duplicated, one on iCloud and one on Icloud.  I deleted one of the notes and checked to see if the other still existed.  It did.  I deleted the other two notes.  I check all notes and found that the three notes were deleted on both accounts.  The only notes on this device are under On My iPad.
I went into system settings and tried to delete the Icloud account.  The warning comes up:  This will delete all IMAP notes on your device.  Will this also delete the notes in On My iPad?

  • How do I share folders to other people using iCloud Drive?

I would like to replace DropBox. How do I share a link to folders in iCloud Drive to other people? Does it have this capability?

I have been trying to find an answer for this too, as a dropbox user for many years I was hoping that iCloud drive could be a replacement, but it looks like it falls way way short in comparison to dropbox for sharing folders with family or work project folders with peer workers, as it basically does not have the scope to do it!!!
iCloud drive looks to only be for personal usage.
