How do i store my video files?

Hey
How do i store my videofiles for the future?
1. Usually when i have made some video recordings I plug my kamera into my mac and import the video(s) into iMovie. (My iMovie Libary is locaded on an extern harddrive).
2. Then i start a new project and ad the videos I want in my project.
3. When I'm done with the project I choosing share in iMovie and export my project to a place on my mac. For some reason the file always become many times larger than the original videofiles even though I didn't ad that many features to my porject?
4. Because of the size of the exported iMovie porject I often need to convert the file, Im using Hand Break as it is free. The video and sound Quality seems to be the same.
5. Than i Open iDVD and starts a new project where I'm adding the converted videofile from iMovie.
6. Burn the ****.
BUT that do I do with the above files I've made? What should I safe for later now that I have burned my project?
I know that I would like to keed a digital version of the finish product - but how?. I wan't as well to safe the original files in iMovie if the future I should need to make other kinds of projects.? All this seems to cloudy to me! Please help.

Nothing wrong here, but as I said, I would record in 1080p for maximum quality.
3. When I'm done with the project I choosing share in iMovie and export my project to a place on my mac. For some reason the file always become many times larger than the original videofiles even though I didn't ad that many features to my porject?
My first thought this is because you are recording at 1080i, but outputing from iMovie as 1080p. But your step 5 paragraph calls this into question.
5. Than i Open iDVD and starts a new project where I'm adding the converted videofile from iMovie.
I'm really curious as to what settings you're Sharing the video at from iMovie. I thought iDVD required 480p from iMovie, but I could be wrong.
But what I really want to stress here is that the DVD that iDVD creates will be significantly lower quality than what you're recording with your video camera. You may need a DVD now, but someday, you or your kids will have a big HDTV, and the 1080p version of your video will look MUCH better than the 480p DVDs you're creating now.
So, the step I would add would be to Share two versions of your projects from iMovie: one you'll use for your DVD, and a 1080p version that you keep on your hard drive for the future when you have a nice big TV to view it on.
BUT that do I do with the above files I've made? What should I safe for later now that I have burned my project?

As I mentioned before, I would Share the project as 1080p, save the file to a drive, and then delete the source material when you need the space. If you have the space, just keep the source files in iMovie forever.

  • How to store streaming video file

    Hello friend
Am streaming video file with use of VLC player, while streaming the video file i want to receive and store the video file.

You first need to know, how VLC streams the data. If you know that, you have to write client code, which can connect to VLC and receive packets. The next step would be to analyze the packets and extract the video/ausio data from it and write it to a file. But all depends on what video format is streamed with which protocol.

how do I import my video files from old iPhoto - in time machine - to new iPhoto?  Photoes came across, video said incompatible.
i have moved from a mac pro to a mac mini,
Mini now has mavericks and latest iLife stuff, I clicked import, was all good, then at end, no videos came across.
Is Mavericks,/iPhoto having a compatibiltiy issue with some video formats....???
Your help is appreciated gang.: )

Please describe exactly what you did. In moving to a new machine no importing is involved. The best way is to simply connect the two computers together and drag the iPhoto library from the old one to the pictures folder go the new one and launch iPhoto

  • How do I copy my video files from iPhoto to iMovie. The two   hour wait to view all in iMovie puts the kibosh on my edit time.

How do I copy my video files from iPhoto to iMovie? The two + hour wait for thumb nails and hour long wait looking for the right videos kills the time I have to edit.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

How do I move a video file from theater to the library for additional editing in iMovie. It is a new iMac so i guess i have the newest version of iMovie.

    Hi hilldw61,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you have added a clip or project to iMovie Theater but would like to continue working on it. When you upload the project to iMovie Theater, the original project remains in iMovie where you can edit it further.

  • How can I store my music files on an external hard drive and listen to them through iTunes that way?

How can I store my music files on an external hard drive and listen to them through iTunes that way? At the moment they're both on the external hard drive and also stored on the computer but I'm quickly running out of memory on my iBook G4 so I'd like to only keep them on the external hard drive and, if possible, delete them from my computer's hard drive. At the moment, when the hard drive isn't plugged in a lot of the files won't play and I get the exclamation mark next to the particular song in iTunes, but everything plays fine when the hard drive is plugged in.
    Thank you.

Sounds like your files are playing from the external drive already.  To check go to iTunes - Preferences - Advanced and check the Media Folder Location.  Change it to the external drive if you need to.

  • How do I store and delete files on the iphone

how do I store and delete files on the iphone

Files/documents need to be stored/associated within an app on the iPad, unlike 'normal' computers there is no file system which allows you to save files with no means of being able to read/use them. So if you want to store a file on the iPad you first need an app on the iPad that supports that file type.
How you then get the file onto the iPad and into the app will depend on what the app is and what transfer method(s) it supports. e.g. some apps use the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, some apps support the transfer of files via your wifi network, the iBooks app uses the Books section of your iTunes (and the device's Books tab) to sync content, and other transfer methods include email attachments, Dropbox etc. The file is then found by going into your chosen app and opening/using the file.

  • How can I capture AVHDC video files from Panasonic HD video camera??

I just received a Panasonic HS300 video camera and can't copy the video files on my computer.
I see several files in the CAM_HDD camera folder on the desktop. But the only relevant files for me to copy are the JPG photos. I don't see any video files.
In the specs of the camera they write that I should have a Mac with an Intel processor. Is that the problem???
I even tried to copy the files on a PC (I succeeded) and then brought them on my computer with a USB stick. It didn't work: again, the only relevant files that I could see were the JPG, no trace of any video (but they were indeed on that USB stick!!).
How can I access those video files and use them in Final Cut Pro, or even iMovie??
I'm becoming afraid that i won't be able to use that camera unless I buy a new Mac now!!!
    thanks!

    you need this: http://www.shedworx.com/voltaichd
the native iMovie / FC AVCHD codecs are only for Intel Macs, the format is a highly compressed HD format which needs to be unpacked & converted for use.
The powerbook may not be up to editing these files. expect a slow process of exporting & working with the footage.

  • How can I delete hidden video files from the iPad?

How can I delete hidden video files from the iPad?  These files were created on my MBA and when I changed the media type to iTunesU and then copied it to my iPad via iTunes, they did not appear.  I can see them using 3rd party software, but they don't have delete functionality.
    Thanks
    York

Interesting note:  I can see the files when I use the search function, but when I tap either file, I return to my home screen.  The video does not open.  I can transfer the file to my MBA, and it plays fine, but I cannot figure out a way to delete them.
