How do I swap Apple IDs for my parents iPads?

I purchased iPad's for my dad and my stepmom earlier this year. Before then they hadn't owned any apple devices so I used my Apple ID to set them up until they learned what they were doing. Now they are complaining that they have to ask me to put in my password so they can get updates for free apps. They are also getting my imessage texts coming through on their devices so they want their own Apple IDs. So I created an Apple ID for both but now the updates for the apps they already have still require my Apple ID. Is there anyway to transfer those apps to their apple ids so I don't have to whipe their ipads and start over?

You cannot transfer apps or any content - free or purchased - to another Apple ID. Plus, if they have their own ID's now, it is not a good idea for them to use your ID on the iPads.
While it is possible to continue to use the ID - if they sign into your Apple ID on one of their iPads so that they can download a past purchase or previous download that they may have deleted - they will lock themselves out of their own ID's for 90 days. When you download a past purchase to a device using another ID - you associate that device with that ID for 90 days and there is no turning back until the 90 day window is over.
You can read this for information regarding associated devices in iTunes.

  • Is there a way to centrally manage Apple IDs for phones and iPads issued to employees?

This is more of a best practices queston I suppose. We are starting to issue more and more iPads and iPhones. As the IT Director I would like a way to centrally manage folks' Apple IDs so the company can purchase approved apps and control iCloud backup. It would be so much easier to have some sort of web interface or way to issue myself so I dont have people running around with their own Apple IDs an account on their company issued devices.
What are some tips for accomplishing this?

I did not even realize I had a problem here until I started using iCloud.
iCloud is a TOTAL MESS.  Here is why:
    1.  I can no longer synch all my apps to my device.  Only the ones bought with the Apple ID tied to my device.  Unlike the desktop, it appears I can not sign off on my iPhone or iPad with one ID and then sign on again with another in order to be able to update them.  I now have over 1 hundreds Apps that are orphened on my phone and iPad that I can no longer update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem arose when I wanted to sign in my iPhone to iCloud.  When I tried to do that it would not accept my original Apple ID so I had to use one that I think I was using with Mobile Me.
Until we can merge our Apple IDs, people with this issue will have a failed iCloud!!!!!
Something's wrong here.  The Apple ID is unrelated to syncing.  As I had stated earlier, I also have two IDs but have had no problem whatever syncing, including syncing over the air (which is really cool).  My only problem is in updating apps.  The iPod handles it automatically but, with my Mac, I need to log out of one account and into the other.
Perhaps we can address one part of your problem first.  When the iPad detects that an app needs updating and and you're on the "wrong" ID, exactly what happens when you attempt to update the app?

  • HT204053 I only have one e-mail, how do I set up separate apple IDs for three family members ?

How do I create apple IdS for three family members with the same e-mail? They are kids and have no e-mail.

You can configure a new email address for them using the @cloud.com server suffix. Do that when you open an iCloud account for each and set up the separate Apple IDs that will each be tied to a different email address.

If both accounts are authorised on the computer's iTunes that you sync them to, and the relevant apps are on that computer, then you should be able to sync them to both devices. The apps will be tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded them, so only that account will be able to download updates to them.
If you log into the other account on a device and re-download its apps onto them then you risk tying the device to that account for 90 days (and similarly redownloading on a computer's iTunes) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

  • How do you create two apple ids for one email address.

I bought two i pads for my kids. Since we have just one email address, everytime I try to create a new apple id it says I already have one. They need separate ids so their friends can facetime with one and not the other. Can't figure out how to create two apple ids with one email address.

    Donnathemom wrote:
Well any ideas on how to solve this problem? When my daughter does facetime with someone it says she's Wyatt. She's not real happy about that.
Get her an email address, even if she never uses it.  They're free and available almost everywhere.  The only requirement is that the address be a valid one.
    Edit...
You can even use an "alias" of yours.  That's a fake address that actually sends everything to you.  Check with your current email supplier.

Do you mean can you use one Apple ID for FaceTime and one for iMessage? You should be able to. Or, do you mean, can you log into iMessage (or FaceTime) with two Apple IDs at once? No.

My wife and I have separate have separate user accounts on our IMac.  We have separate Apple IDs for iTunes.  How can we use iCloud on our separate iPhones without sharing contacts, calendars, etc.

If have separate iCloud accounts and want to keep your all your iCloud data separate, you can create separate user accounts for each of you, then sign into your individual iCloud account within your user account.
If you want to just add both iCloud calendars on your Mac, you can sign into one iCloud account in System Preferences>iCloud, then add the second account in System Preferences>Internet Accounts>iCloud and only check Calendars with this second account.

  • My family has multiple iOS devices, all with 1 Apple ID. With iCloud coming, should I create separate Apple IDs for each member of my family?

    Hello,
Between my family, we have 2 iPhones, multiple computers, iPads, and an Apple TV ALL tied in to the same Apple ID (the one I created when I got my first device). With iCloud coming, I wanted to know if I need to create separate Apple IDs for each family member (for emails, contacts, calendars, etc.). For instance, I would like to share certain contacts and a calendar with only my wife, all media between all family members, and have home sharing so that I can play/stream content on my Apple TV. Will there be a way to have multiple and distinct me.com accounts and yet share the same Apple ID?
Apologies for being verbose — just wanted to give ample info/background.
    Thanks,
    Jay.

I happened to stop at the Apple store yesterday for a separate issue and had a discussion about iCloud. Seems like this is how iCloud works (also, there's another thread on this forum that explains it well).
Each member of the family can have their own iCloud ID, which will be used for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Apps, Bookmarks, Media, Photos, etc. and having this content synced automatically with a Mac (computer). The iCloud IDs work in tandem with the associated Apple ID — so while you cannot have multiple Apple IDs, you can certainly have multiple iCloud IDs tagged with a certain Apple ID.
While all this makes sense from the iOS device standpoint, I'm unclear on how things will sync with a Mac computer, especially if the family uses a single iMac with multiple login IDs for various members. For instance, I currently have an iMac and iTunes content resides in my Public folder, which my wife can still access when she logs in with her login ID. I'm guessing that I'll be able to set up her iCloud ID using her login, set up my iCloud ID using my login, while both our iMac logins will retain the same Apple ID. This would take care of syncing Photos, Contacts, Calendars, etc.
Another (not sure if unique) problem I face is our Address Book — right now, we have one GIANT address book with different groups set up. Certain groups sync to her iPhone, while others to mine. Some contacts are common between both of us. I'm hoping that if she/I updates a common contact, then the change will be reflected in both our groups of contacts. I hope this makes sense — for instance, I update a contact named Joe, and he's on my group of contacts in my iPhone. Hope iCloud updates the master contact card for Joe on the iMac, which would then automatically trigger the update on my wife's group of contacts—that Joe also belongs to— leading to an update on her iOS device as well.
    Apologies for the lengthy response..

I have 2 email addresses (1 mac.and 1 blueyonder.) each with separate identities and passwords. I am forever getting asked to verify identity and/or passwords and having these refused and me then having to set up new ones. Can I combine my email addresses to a single Apple Identity and Password? If yes then How?
Any help much appreciated as this is driving me crazy!

    Depending on what you're asking...
There is no means to merge Apple IDs.  You can change the mail address assocaited with your Apple ID, so you might switch to using and purchasing from one email address, and using the second as a backup.  (There's no means to merge the purchases, and related baggage.)
While I'm guessing this was about Apple IDs, for completeness...  Combining the mail messages involving multiple email addresses is separate from the Apple ID; that is usually done with some combination of notifying the senders or with the forwarding of messages from one mail server to the preferred server.  Or running multiple mail accounts in parallel, depending on what you are up to.

  • How do you transfer Apple IDs from one ipad to another iPad?  I got the new ipad and gave my ipad 2 to my wife who had the first version and now I can't get my Apple ID off so she can use her Apple ID.

how do you transfer Apple IDs from one ipad to another iPad?  I got the new ipad and gave my ipad 2 to my wife who had the first version and now I can't get my Apple ID off so she can use her Apple ID.

You don't transfer Apple ID's from one device to another one. You sign out in the settings, )the App Store and iTunes if necessary) and then sign in with the other ID.
Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Apple ID>Sign out. Them sign in with the other ID. You can sign out of the app store and iTunes as well by going to the featured Atab in the App Store and the music tab in iTunes, swipe to the bottom and access the Apple ID in there.
You should have erased the iOad before you gave it to her in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings. That way she could set up the iPad as new with her own Apple ID.
Be aware of the fact that if you use each others ID's in order to download past purchased content to your own iPads, you will lock yourself out of your own ID as you will have associated your iPad with the other person's Apple ID.
In other words, if you sign into your wife's ID on your iPad so that you can download an app or an album so that you don't have to pay for it again, you will lock yourself out of your Apple ID for 90 days.

Thanks - I guess it is like there were two of me!
I bought the iPhone first and it seemed natural to link it to the (work) e-mail address which was in constant use. The iMac for home use came next and it seemed natural to use my home e-mail address, particularly as I knew by then that I would lose the work address after my imminent retirement. The same logic went for the recent puchase of the MacAir. I am not sure what happened with the iPad (also a recent purchase) - iTunes seemed to puch me towards the same ID as the iPhone.
It is not a huge problem - just makes my persona look schizoid! Otherwise very happy with everything Apple.

  • HT204053 Using 2 Apple IDs for the App store on iPad

    Hi there,
We're looking to set up and use two Apple Ids, so each can make and control their own app downloads on an iPad Mini.
This is our first experience in the ios environment and we're a bit lost with how to handle the Apple ID settings, specifically for app downloads, less for iCloud. On previous Android app stores, there was no need to give an ID + password for each single download.
Many thanks for any advice and help!

We're looking to set up and use two Apple Ids, so each can make and control their own app downloads on an iPad Mini.
That's not going to work. You can only sign into an Apple ID on an iOS device once every 90 days. An iPad is a single user device. Yes, you can comingle the content from different Apple IDs on the same iPad, but it is best to download and comingle the content in the iTunes library of a single account on a Mac or PC and then to sync the comingled content to the iPad.

  • Using Touch ID for App store when you have seperate Apple IDs for iCloud and iTunes

My wife and I each have a new iPhone 5S.  We share the same Apple ID for iTunes and the App Store.
In addition, we each have our own unique Apple IDs for iCloud.  This enables us to use iMessage to text to each other.
Can the iPhone 5S be setup to use the Touch ID for iTunes and App store purchases when there are separate iCloud and iTunes ID on the same phone?
Currently, I can unlock my phone using the Touch ID, but the App store requests me to type the password to my wife's and my shared Apple ID whenever I wish to buy an app.  I am not given the option to use the Touch ID.
I do have both the iPhone Unlock and iTunes & App Store set to "on" here: Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > Touch ID
How can I use my current setup so I can approve App Store purchases with the Touch ID?

This is the screen that pops up when I attempt to purchase an app.  It does not allow me to use my Touch ID.
