How do I switch computers to sync music, movies with?

I have been using one computer to sync all of my iTunes stuff (mostly music, games and movies). From now on, I want to use a different computer but all of my iTunes stuff is on the original computer and I want to keep that stuff on my iPhone. How do I permanently switch from one computer to another while retaining all of my music, games and movies?

If you are transferring your iTunes library from one Mac to another - your iTunes library should be in an iTunes named folder located in your Music folder.
With iTunes quit on both computers, copy the iTunes named folder located in your Music folder and place the copy in the same location on the Mac you are transferring your iTunes library to.
If this Mac is not currently authorized with your iTunes account, you also need to authorize this Mac with your iTunes account with iTunes.

longer How do I switch computers for syncing?

The absolute best way to do this is to transfer your iTunes library from the old computer to the new one. You can find a numbr of ways to do that here.

If you want to spend the money for a computer application that will let you transfer all of the content from the iPad to iTunes - look at
    Touchcopy
However, I have posted this many times over the past few months. If you follow these instructions you should be fine. This will transfer the purchased content from the iPad into iTunes on the Mac. You will still want to get your photo library and any CD's that you imported into iTunes on the new Mac. That is why transferring the iTunes library to the new Mac is the best way to go.
When you set up the new Mac - if you can import or migrate all of the PC content onto the Mac - this will all be a non issue, but I'm not sure how to bring all of your PC content onto the Mac. Going from an old Mac to a new Mac was a breeze, but I know nothing about transferring the content from a Windows PC.
The 3 basic things to remember - authorize the computer, (Launch iTunes on your computer and go to Store>Authorize this Computer) transfer purchased content and backup.
The following was copied from this thread. This is essentially what you want to accomplish.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your Mac, start iTunes. Click on iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your Mac and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on iTunes / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Read this thread and the support links as well. There are apps that you can purchase that will allow you to transfer photos from the iPad to your PC. Look at Photo Transfer App in the App store and you can search for others as well.

This support site will help you with transferring iTunes music to your new computer - if you have an iTunes library of music on another computer or hard drive.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
The worst case scenario is that you can download all of your apps again if needed - but you will not retain the data or app settings - but it is always an option if everything else fails - but it won't fail!

  • Looking for app to sync music, movies, and playlists

Apple products use iTunes to sync music, movies, and playlists, what is a good app for the Android? There have been a few mentioned in other posts, but nothing that will sync the playlists also...

I tried Double Twist since it was free, but it had a couple limitations that I can't remember off the top of my head. Somebody told me about iSyncr, which was a couple bucks but it's awesome!. Downloads directly from my iTunes, inlcluding playlists. I use the default player on the phone. The iSyncr app also has a great tutorial, very easy to use.
I grabbed the iSyncr Lite version, and it seems to work fine and it uses the default player on the phone. I am not crazy about having to use iTunes for the workstation piece, but it will help my wife use it as she is used to iTunes, and something else would confuse her. I am about ready to buy the paid version of iSyncr and iSyncr WiFi so I can sync wirelessly rather than having to connect it. I grabbed the Lite version of that also and it works great.
      Thanks KYBlueDad....

  • Switching computers i sync with..will i lose everything?

currently, my iphone 3gs is synced with a windows computer, and id like to switch to sync it with my mac. will i lose all my text messages, apps, ect?
i know i can save my contacts in google, but what about everything else? if i back it up on the mac, and then sync all new music, will the backup still keep all the texts and pictures?

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with music and video with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first. SMS/MMS are not iTunes content or photos transferred from your computer and are not included with the iTunes sync process except for being included with your iPhone's backup. SMS/MMS are not touched with syncing an iPhone with another computer as in this situation.
If you transfer your iTunes library from your PC to your Mac per the instructions included with this link, no iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased with the first sync with iTunes on your Mac. This assumes you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on your PC which means all apps on your iPhone are in your iTunes library on your PC where they should be.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
This will replace your iTunes library on your Mac with your iTunes library on your PC. If your Mac's iTunes library imcludes any content that you don't want to lose, you can have more than one iTunes library available on your Mac. Or you can transfer all iTunes content on your iPhone to your iTunes library on your Mac that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store. This assumes you used the same iTunes account on your PC as is used on your Mac. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. This will copy all iTunes content on your iPhone that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
Photos/videos in your iPhone's Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. With a Mac, you can use iPhoto or the Image Capture application for this. The Camera Roll is not touched when syncing an iPhone with iTunes on another computer.
With a Mac, the iPhone supports syncing contacts with the Address Book application. If the Address Book is empty, it contains no contacts that you have entered or imported, before the first sync for this data enter one contact in the Address Book on your Mac. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select. The same if the Address Book already includes any contacts that you entered or imported. Syncing contacts with the Address Book is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. The same applies before and with syncing calendar events with iCal on your Mac.

  • I have 2 iPod touchs and 1 computer. It will reconize one but not the other. How do I get it to sync music on both

I have 2 older iPod touches and 1 computer. It will reconize one but not the other. How do I sync music on both?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPhone 6 not syncing music/movies

I was not able to sync my iPhone 6 to iTunes using my mac, I have the latest iTunes 11.4. When plugged in and ready to sync up selected tabs (i.e. music, movies etc), it would start to sync up by saying “determining apps to sync” even though thats not even the selection Ive made. Apple chat crew wasn’t able to resolve my issue. They tried for about 45mins. The scheduled a call for next day, and no solution. They’ve sent me an email how to select songs manually, however the instructions were for iTunes several years ago. iTunes now doesn’t have the same options.
After hours of fighting with my Mac, and before resetting my phone like the support team suggested, I took sometime and played with all the settings. Ive come across ‘Options’ which is found, once the iPhone is plugged in, under the ‘summary’ tab. Uncheck all the options but ‘Manually mange music and videos’. Once you’ve done that, restart you’re iTunes and try syncing your music. It worked like a charm for me.

I had this problem - was driving me crazy. I tried many things including restores etc. The following solved it:
    Go into iTunes
Open up your new iPhone on the tab in the top right corner
In the Summary box - simply unclick "Sync only checked songs and videos"
    Click apply
    Then I was fixed!
    Good luck

  • IPhone will not sync music, movies etc since upgrading to Mavericks...

Upgrade to Mavericks on Tuesday.  I also upgraded to iTunes 11.1.2 and iOS 7 7.0.3.  Since this time iTunes will not sync my music movies or TV shows to my iPhone five. I have tried everything  can't find a solution. Is anyone else having this issue?

Well...last night, I thought I had it all figured out. I had several successful syncs after I used the method in my post above. Even when making changes to playlists, everything synched successfully every time.
Tonight, however, it's back to the same crap. Hanging on "Waiting for changes..." and no changes being made. Sometimes iTunes crashes in the process.
The only thing that seems to complete correctly is the backup, as it logs it correctly under "Latest Backup"...but ****, who knows if THAT'S even working right.
Really frustrated, Apple. And yes...I've sent detailed iTunes feedback here and via the error box that pops up when iTunes crashes.

  • How do you delete files, applications, downloads, music, movies, not used?

When i turned on my new Macbook in the morning today, i was at 56gb's, out of 80gb. Now it states its a 53gb's. i obtained some music files but wish now to delete them off my computer. how do i do this? how can i get precious gb's back?
isnt there something on the macbook to delete unwanted things? like control panel on windows? also need to delete photos and music and one movie. how do i do this? simply drag to trash can or is there more?
there has to be something already on my macbook that can delete and manage my unwanted files so i can attain more gb's back.

In spotlight when I search Superman, it find it. I click it
    and automatically Quicktime opens.
Clicking on the file will open the file. To the right of any items found with a Spotlight search is a light blue circle with an i in the center short for info. Click on this which provides the location of the file.
When downloading files from the internet with Safari, etc. you can designate a default location to save the downloaded files. I choose the Desktop and if the download is something I want to keep, I transfer it to the location of my choice.
2nd: Music. It did not originate from iTunes but is on iTunes now.
I deleted the original music folder with about 10 songs by taking it
to the trash can and emptying it...but its still playing in iTunes.
Would deleting it on iTunes completly delete it and providing me
    with more gb's?
Yes as previously provided - if you have "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" selected at Advanced under the General tab for iTunes preferences (which I believe is the default setting), then there are two copies of the music you obtained if the music was downloaded or placed on the hard drive.
The links that you provided... will they take care of these issues?
Can they EASILY help me delete unwanted items so i can obtain
    back my gb's ?
The links I provided will not help you with the downloaded music and movie issue. I would create a music named folder to place downloaded music and a movie named folder to place downloaded movies, etc. This way, you know where any downloaded data is stored/located.
After importing any downloaded music into iTunes keeping "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" selected, you can then delete the original downloaded files and the same when importing any downloaded pictures to iPhoto.
The first link I provided includes information on deleting applications and then 2nd link provides suggestions on freeing up hard drive space.

  • Syncing Music/Video with two laptops

I've had a 17" MacBook Pro running OSX 10.4 for about two years now and I have my iPhone 3G synced up to it.
I just got another MacBook Pro 15" OSX 10.5 as part of my University course.
I wanted to know if there was anyway to sync music already on my iPhone onto my new Mac?

No way supported by Apple or provided by Apple.
The iphone is not a storage device and it does not support disk mode, like an ipod. You can sync iphone to only ONE itunes library at a time. If you sync to a different machine the current music on your iphone will be erased.
You can copy your itunes library from your old computer to your new one, then sync.

  • Can i use multiple computers to sync my Iphone with itunes?

Can I use a different computer to sync my Iphone with itunes since my laptop crashed?

No. TM is machine specific and is not ideal for syncing machines. You need syncing software or MobileMe. MobileMe has a 2 month free trial. Oh, cloning software of specific files may work as well depending on what you are syncing.

  • How long does it take to download a movie with a 2 Mb/sec connection speed?

I will shortly be returning back to the UK after a number of years in India where we have a slow internet connection. I will need to sign up for a new ISP and want to choose carefully what kind of contract I buy. Downloads on my current speed ( never more than 170kbps) are impractically slow so I was wondering what I could expect with a faster connection. For instance, how long would it take to download a movie or TV show, and what about the large software updates. To update to 10.4.10 took all night here!

Take a look at this page:
iTunes Store: Download times for purchases will vary
It should give you an idea as to what sort of download times you can expect.

  • How to sync music video with XDCAM footage

Anybody have a recommendation of how to shoot a music video in 24p on the Sony EX1, and make sure the on-set playback matches the original music track for editing in a XDCAM EX 1080/24p timeline?
Is it like the crystal sync playback with film, or the 60hz playback with 60i video? Something else maybe? Slow it down in post?

Get your audio source and sample rate convert to 48K naming the export appropriately.
load that into an FCP sequence set up for what you're shooting, start your sequence at 59:00:00 first hit of audio at 01:00:00:00
you may want to make a countdown eg snare drum cross stick etc for it in soundtrack pro. make sure the countdown matches the tempo of the piece. You'll need this if the piece starts with sync audio of the musicians playing.
put a slug and a timecode generator filter on it. you'll have to fool with the offset to get it to match your sequence time.
note the Time codes for each of your setups and place a marker at each setup then back up a few seconds and place a start marker for each setup.
Playback off the FCP sequence starting a few seconds early. shoot the screen with the TC numbers and without going out of record shoot the next setup. Playback audio from this sequence. Obviously a laptop is the way to go here
this sequence you used is now your master. drop in your shots according to the TC burn-in you shot
turn tracks on and off to select what you want and cut the piece.

  • How to prevent iPhone 5 from syncing music out of order

So for the past month or so, whenever i tried to sync my iPhone 5 to my iMac, my music would end up out of alphabetical order on my iPhone.
The majority of music would end up under '#' on my iPhone even though its perfectly organized on my Mac and i would have to resync my phone multiple times to get at least some of the music up the list alphabetically.
Although it did have some affect, the problem still persists with a '#' ending up under every couple letters.
Is there a way to resolve this or should i restore my iPhone?

    Hi there KeenMathura,
There can be a few things that might cause this issue where music is not alphabetically organized on your phone. Resyncing content is certainly one of the steps to use to troubleshoot that. Next I would quit all the running apps on your iPhone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes and then restore it as a new device and verify that it works.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling
