How do I switch from entourage to mail?

I think I'd like to start using Mail again...
Is there an EASY way of getting all my messages over to Mail, as well as my address book, all of which is in Entourage. (I POP my gmail, deleting Gmails copy once its accessed on my mac, so setting up the accounts isnt a problem.)
And then, how would I back up my emails/address book? I think I found the folder for MAIL, but I cant seem to find the folder where all the Entourage messages are kept. I'd like to backup all my data.
Any help would be appreciated!

For messages, use the Import Mailboxes feature with Entourage listed as the first email client to choose from.
For Address Book contacts, you have several options. With Entourage and the Apple Address Book launched and both positioned on the Desktop so each is partially visible, select an Entourage contact and at the menu bar go to Edit > Select All to highlight/select all contacts. Click on and drag the selected contacts to the Address Book "All" Group which will copy all contacts over.
If this doesn't work, create a folder on the Desktop named contacts or whatever you prefer. Do the same with all Entourage contacts but click on and drag the selected contacts to the folder on the Desktop which will create a copy of each contact as an individual vCard file within the folder.
At the Address Book menu bar, go to File > Import and select vCards navigating to the folder created on the Desktop which contacts each Entourage contact as separate vCard file.
Assuming you are using Office 2004, Entourage 2004 includes a sync with Address Book and iCal function. Selecting this will sync the Entourage address book and Apple Address Book.
And then, how would I back up my emails/address book?
I think I found the folder for MAIL, but I cant seem to find
the folder where all the Entourage messages are kept. I'd
like to backup all my data.
All Entourage data is stored in a single large database file located in your Documents folder > Microsoft User Data > Office 2004 Identities > The name of your Identity.
Regarding Mail, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on your backup.
Go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Copy the com.apple.mail.plist file and place the copy on your backup .
Done with backing up Mail.
For Address Book contacts, at the menu bar go to File and select Back up Address Book.
Save this file on your backup and you are done.

  • Switching from Entourage to Mail: use Entourage Groups?

I'm attempting to switch from Entourage to Mail and Address Book (not least because of the attractions of smart folders, etc), but I can't figure out how or if I will be able to send occasional email mailshots to large groups of people.
I run an occasional newsletter in email format. Because the list is very large, it wouldn't make sense to set up individual vCards for each individual email address on the list, and yet that seems to be the only way to email all the members of a group using Mail and Address Book.
With Entourage, on the other hand (and I would dearly love to wave goodbye to it in all other respects) I could set up a Group exactly as I would set up an individual contact, then copy the entire list to it, and could even add occasional new email addresses whenever I liked or delete others as they opted to leave the group.
Am I missing something in Mail / Address Book, or will I have to cut and paste into the To: box my entire long list each time I need to send a mailshot? (And doing that would involve using a word processor or text editor in order to manage the list, which is adding yet another programme to what should be a pretty simple task...)
Many thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

Yes. Importing your mail from Entourage does not affect the Entourage database.

  • Help - switch from entourage to mail before or after Lion upgrade?

I want to upgrade to os x Lion. I also want to switch from Entourage (2008) to Mail with this upgrade. Should I switch to Mail in Snow Leopard, then do the Upgrade to Lion?

Entourage will NOT work with Lion. If you switch to Lion first, you will NOT be able to easily, or perhaps at all, get your Entourage data.
Definitely switch to Mail first. Move all of MSFT programs' data that depend on Rosetta to some other program. Only after you have done that and tested the solution should you upgrade to Lion.
    I didn't.

  • Switched from Entourage to Mail- # of messages shows but no messages!

I thought I successfully imported all the mail from Entourage into Mail but next to the folder is the number of messages but nothing shows up. For instance it says there are 622 Deleted messages but none show up. What did I do wrong? What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks for any help!!! Judy

Fixed it! Duh! Just needed to restart and they were all there. Answered my own topic. Judy

  • Switching from Entourage to Mail

So I'm a power user who is tired of non-Universal binaries and is making the switch to OS X Mail (on a trial basis for now). Right now I have two user accounts setup in Entourage, a POP account for personal use, and an Exchange server account for work.
Right now Mail is importing my messages from the personal account. I like having the logical seperate between work and home, and would like to keep that in Mail. How could I accomplish this?
Also, I love the way Gmail groups messages so that they only take up 1 line at the main inbox level. Entourage 2004 had "groups", but they didn't display as well as Gmail. Can I replicate this view in Mail?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi
You can have as many accounts as you like in Mail, and the Inbox will separate into those various accounts - click on the disclosure triangle next to "Inbox" (or, indeed, any basic mailbox) to see the different accounts. Mail doesn't separate mailboxes the same way as Entourage - ie, you won't see "Account1: Inbox, Outbox, Sent, Junk" then "Account2: Inbox, Outbox, Sent, Junk", etc.
Mail calls those grouped messages "threads", and you can turn on threaded view using "View - Organise by Thread".

  • Switched from Entourage to Mail/iCal issue

I switched to Mail and iCal from Entourage some time ago but I noticed when I email an iCal invite, the icon in the body of the email is an Entourage icon and if I click on it, it opens Entourage.

    if you go in mail,
click mail at the top, preferences, and click default email reader, make sure its mail
you could also make sure add invitations to ical is set to always.

  • Wanting to switch from Entourage to Mail 2.0 Any advice appreciated.

    Greetings,
I've been using Entourage 2004 for three years now - I'm a former Windows user. However, I am trying to migrate over to Mac only apps. I'm eager to switch over from Word and Excel but I need Windows environment compatibility. Anyway, is Mail 2.0 any good? I use Entourage for the following:
    1. Contacts
    2. Calendar Reminders
    3. Inbox Filtering (into different boxes) and Forwarding (Rules)
    4. Color Coding Contacts (e-mails, contact cards, etc.)
Many people I know use Mail, but I was wondering if there are also must-have plug-ins for Mail 2.0? I was listening to MacBreak and they briefly spoke about Mail and plug-ins, but didn't mention any must haves. I tried QuickSilver today for the first time, and it's MS Office integration is less than stellar. The Entourage plug-in for QS drives me crazy as it rarely seems to work properly.
Anyway, that aside, if any of you mail gurus can recommend Mail and must-have plug-ins I would appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance!

Jason, I don't know how to fix your problem, but there are a couple of things that don't sound right to me:
If I am sending an e-mail of some length it looks
as if it sends, goes into my sent box, but is never
received by the recipient. I know, because I CC myself.
I don't understand this. What does CC have to do with it?
It seems like Apple Mail knows which messages are tests
and which are the ones I want to send for real and just
blocks those from actually going out.
Well, you've already stated that your messages go to the Sent mailbox, so it's clearly not Mail that's blocking them...
Something to try here would be using another mail client, such as Thunderbird, and see what happens there.
Apple : Please help me on this, because it is a very
bothersome problem and one that I don't think is easy
    to pinpoint the cause of.
If you really want Apple to help you on this, you've chosen the wrong way to request it.
BTW, have you checked your server settings? :-D

  • How can I switch from Thunderbird to Mail without losing existing messages?

I began using Thunderbird when I got my first iMac because I had been using it on my Windows PC.
Now I am tired of dealng with the duelling Address Books (the OS X Address Book and the multiple Address Books within Thunderbird).
So, I would like to stop using Thunderbird (and remove it from my iMac), but want to retain all the messages currently in the various Inboxes, Sent boxes, Archives, etc. in Thunderbird...
Is there any easy way to do this? (I know I could save all the messages as files and - presumably - open them with Mail, but there are a lot of messages).

  • Switching from Entourage to ical, mail, and address book- duplications?

I am tired of the slowness of Entourage and was thinking of switching to all of the native mac programs. Any suggestions or comments on whether this is a good idea or not?
Also, will all of my information be duplicated. I have about 3 gigs of information and I don't want to needlessly store it if I don't need to. Can I get some advice on where to find and extract that information from the entourage program so I am not eating up disc space unnecessarily.
    Thank you.

Three weeks ago I switched from Entourage and Palm Desktop to Apple mail, address book and ical. It was a tad painful because I ended up with a lot of duplicates as I had email and some contact info in Entourage and several thousand contacts in Palm Desktop.
However after a couple of solid nights sorting out the duplicates all the contact info for each person is now in one place.
Word of warning though when you are checking address book entries make sure you keep backing up the changes (File - Backup address book) because for some inexplicable reason a couple of times all the entries in address book vanished.
Also the check for duplicates option in address book might be great for some but for me it created contacts that had their addresses and phone numbers duplicated several times.
After initial teething problems (getting used to the different programs) I am now pretty happy with the changeover. I am ecstatic to not be seeing the constant Entourage error message of 'your database is damaged and needs to be rebuilt' which entourage kept throwing at me (even after repeated rebuilds).
I have a Palm Treo and Address Book and iCal sync fine with that as well (after installing the conduit).
You'll also find in mail that you can't do as much snazzy formatting as you could with Entourage (ie numbered lists and bullet points) but hopefully Apple will address that in later updates. In the meantime if I'm desperate for formatting I write the email in rtf and paste it across complete with bluet points.
Sorry to drone on but wanted to give you some moral support.
Oh by the way the entourage data is stored in Home folder - Documents - Microsoft User Data - Office 2004 Identities - main identity - database (almost need a compass and flashlight to find it). To be on the safe side burn it to a dvd just in case and then trash it and all it's little friends (rules, lists, signatures and the other main identity folders.
    Good luck

  • Switching from entourage / how create categories ?

    Hello,
I'm just switching from entourage and I miss the categories management, very usefull to build criteria to select and classify mails. I can't work with the group's agenda, because some categories is relative to a project or an subject.
Somebody solves this kind of management problem ?
    thankx.

I similarly just switched to Mail.app from Entourage and also miss the categories. I downloaded MailTags, but it seems very complicated for what I'm looking for.
Is there a way that I can apply a single rule to an email (or selected group) simply by right-clicking? A simply half-section command is all I'm looking for.
Does that make sense? Just looking for some super-easy way to categorise my emails and sort them by colour, without having to click through five levels of menus or setting up a super-complex rule that will surely leave out any email from strangers.

  • HT201320 How can I switch from one email user to another?

How can I switch from one email account to another?

You have to select between the two accounts in the mail app.
Say for instance that you are reading an email in your XYZ email account. Tap the button in the upper left corner of the mail app to back out all the way to where you can see all of the email accounts.... Tap InBox, then tap XYZ email Account and that will take you back to the main MailBoxes window.
Is that what you want to know? There is no way to simply "toggle" between the two accounts.

  • Importing from Entourage to Mail Question

    Hi,
I'd like to import from entourage to mail, however I'd like to select a cutoff date of the emails coming in. In other words, instead of 10 years of email, I just want to take the past two or three.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how easily to achieve this end result?
    Thanks

I haven't got a direct answer for you but I had similar experiences which may help you. I found the Mail import to be pretty ineffective and unable to cope with large mailboxes.
I started with Entourage and actually moved to Thunderbird when earlier versions of Mail were not really very good. TBird imported Entourage emails fine - about three years of emails.
With SL and Mail 4, I was looking for a way to import all my TBird emails - now 7 years with as the import into Mail was still flawed and also it had a bad habit of recovering EVERY email ever received, including all the spam. So I found "Eudora mailbox importer" which perfectly moved all my TBird mail straight into Mail with no fuss.
So if you get stuck, its Entourage to TBird to Mail !

  • From Entourage to Mail

    Hi !
Upgrading OS X from 10.2.8 to 10.4 Tiger
Moving from Microsoft Office to Open Office
Moving electronic mail application from Microsoft Entourage to Apple Mail
Problem : Entourage exports e-mail addresses under text format, when Mail imports them under LDIF or Vcard formats !
How to import my e-mail addresses from Entourage to mail ? I have a lot of them, proceeding one by one is unthinkable.
    Thanks

Remove the cwallet.sso file and check the wallet status in v$encryption_wallet.

    Check the status again.

How do you switch from one iTunes account to another on your apple tv?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I assume you do mean a different account and not simply a different iTunes library. Unfortunately, in order to switch accounts, you would need to log out and log in to the second account.
