How do I switch the primary user/account on my iPad from my login to my wife's new login?

My wife and I have a family iPad 3.  When we got it all setup initially, I used my Apple ID, my gmail accounts, the whole nine.  Now, my company has given me a new iPad 3 mini therefore I want to switch the family iPad 3 from me to her as the primary.  This way we each have our own dedicated device.
Is this possible?
Thanks,
W.

Yes you can do that. The problem comes from the fact that you both used the same Apple ID to purchase or download Apps. Purchased apps are associated with the Apple ID used to purchase them.
I would just go ahead and back up all info on the old iPad to your computer. Then restore and erase the old iPad and set it up as new. Get a separate Apple ID for your wife and enter only her email settings. She might have to repurchase those non free apps that she might want but to me this is a small price to pay.

  • Gave my old iPad to my wife - how do I switch the Apple ID associated with that iPad from mine to my wife's?

I bought a new iPad and gave my old iPad to my wife. Every time she goes to buy an app or song it pops up with my Apple ID. We changed it to her Apple ID in the settings/iTunes & App Store. That made it so her ID came up when making purchases, but her iPad is still associated with my ID. For example, her iPad still shows up as one of my devices in the Find My iPhone app. Is there any way to change this other than resetting the iPad to factory, setting up under her ID and reinstalling everything?  Thanks in advance for your help.

You need at least 10.7.2, check that you do have that, 10.7 is insufficient. Post back with your OSX version.

i use migrate assistant to move files from my old pc to the new Mac , but it creates the user account. How can i delete the unwanted user account.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's the classic behaviour after using Migration Assistant and that's normal.
To transfer the data from the new user account to your old user account, you can follow some steps. Here is all the information you need to do this > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5472

How do I clear the "recent" user account pictures in Mountain Lion? A friend posted a stupid photo as one of the pictures as a joke and I cant figure out how to remove it from the recent pictures.
    Thanks

To completely remove the files, from the desktop click Go>Go to Folder and type
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.ImageKit.RecentPictureService/Data/Library/Images /Recent Pictures/
Then move the files you don't want to trash.
Make sure to empty trash and restart before viewing your recents again, or they will reappear.

  • How do i delete the old users account on my second hand imac g5 without the origonal disc

im new to imacs and not sure how to delete the old users account without the origonal disc

First of all, you need to make sure your current user account (the one you intend to keep) is an administrator account (not standard).
Go to System Preferences Accounts pane.  Click the lock, if it's locked, and enter your authorization, to unlock.
In the sidebar, you will see the list of user accounts.  To delete a user account, select it on the list and click the minus sign.

  • How do I change the main iCloud account on my iPad?

I need to change the main iCloud account on my iPad. I'm merging family MobileMe accounts' contacts, and need to set up multiple devices with the main iCloud family account so we will all share photos, contacts, calendars, etc, but have separate email via personal subaccounts. Trouble is I entered a sub account as the main account on one of the iPads and I can't find a way to change it.

I have the same question for a slightly different reason.
I just got an iPhone6 and set it up from an iPhone4 backup. I never really used that phone for iCloud, When iCloud first launched, I used an old earthlink email but I've since updated to a gmail address on my account.and use iCloud a lot on my iPad and laptop. But the new phone wants me to log in under the old earthlink account. I don't have that password and attempts to reset it have not worked. How can I switch the log in address so I can use the correct working address?

  • How to change the UniqueID of the primary user account?

A friend brought to me a MacBook Pro he'd just bought so I can set it up for him. The primary (only) user on it was named User, and he didn't know the password. I reset the password using Terminal from the Recovery partition. Then I changed the account name to his name, and followed these instructions to change the account shortname to match his name, then deleted the original (now empty) account, so there's now just one user account on the computer.
Then I checked with Terminal (after hunting on the Web for the proper command; I used the simplest I found, and it worked), and found that the account now has the UniqueID number 502. Practically speaking I guess that doesn't matter (I have yet to delve into the depths of permissions &c), but as a neatness freak I'd like the account to be numbered 501, just as if it were the original account created when the computer was first set up.
A Web search found a couple of articles by Unix experts offering several different methods, all seeming rather complex, and disagreeing on which is best, and whether to use root or sudo.
Can anybody describe a simple way in OS X to change the number of the account from 502 to 501, without causing any harm?

Sure, but ClamXav (and most all A-V scanners) don't look for key loggers or spyware since most of it is commercial software installed on purpose by parents or others who hopefully have a legitimate reason for doing so. Only MacScan from SecureMac specializes in that sort of thing and it's not very good at detecting anything else at the present time.

  • On Safari, How do I switch to another user account?

But the hiccup is that I can't launch Safari. I wanna try and test another user account for trouble shooting purposes. But the question is, how do I switch if I can't launch it? Anyone out there in the universe have an idea?
    Would appreciate the help.
    Thanks!

If you can't launch Safari, that probably means it's crashing on launch. Launch the Console application and look under "User Diagnostic Reports" for crash logs related to Safari, WebProcess, or PluginProcess. Select the most recent one and post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot.
These instructions may not apply if you're really on 10.4 as your profile says.

  • HT4796 how do I keep the same user account and not make a new one when transferring music?

How do I transfer files using the migration assistant and not create a new user profile? I am transferring from Win 7 to Mountain Lion and now the only way I see my music in Itunes is to flip to the new user account created. I am the only one using my mac and its a bit of a pain switching users to listen to music. Any thoughts?

Drag the iTunes folder over manually instead of using the Migration Assistant, or drag the other account's home folder to the desktop, authenticate yourself, and move the music into your main account's iTunes library.

  • How do I change the "primary iCloud account" on my iMac?

This issue has been bothering me for YEARS so I'd REALLY appreciate some help with this.
I started my cloud syncing use with MobileMe several years ago.  At that time, I created an AppleID to purchase music on within iTunes and a 2nd AppleID to sync content using MobileMe between my iMac and iPhone. I used an old business name to for the account which was long and, since it's not longer a business, annoying to work with!
When the new iCloud service was launced and MobileMe shut down, I wanted to change the name of the MobileMe appleid to something shorter and more descriptive.  By this time, my husband and kids had iphones and a Mac lap top had been added to the mix, so I really wanted to update this account name to make it easier for everyone.
At that time, you could not rename your AppleID if it was previously a MobileMe account.  So rather than just keep the original account, I decided to create a THIRD AppleID with a name everyone could remember.  When I did that, something interesting happended on my iMac.  When I attempted to switch all of my syncing functions over the new iCloud account, I found that I could NOT.  I could only sync Mail & Notes, Contacts and Calendars between all the devices with this new account.  When I attempted to sync Bookmarks, Photo Stream, Find My Mac or iCloud Storage, I received the following message within my new iCloud account Mail set up area:   "This is not your primary iCloud account.  Only your primary account can use Bookmarks, Photo Stream, Find My Mac or iCloud Storage.  So as it turns out, I had to keep BOTH accounts open and am now paying for storage on TWO iCloud accounts!  Help!!
Obviously, I would like to convert all syncing operations to my NEWER iCloud account and DELETE this old MobileMe account.  Apple has automatically updated the email address for this account to an "@icloud.com" address.
Any takers on this one??  I really appreciate anything you can share that might help!
    Leanndra : )

I activated an iPad for a work associate; somehow, MY Apple ID account is assigned to his iPad's iCloud backup.  His iPad is using up all MY iCloud space... he IS set up in App Store with his own Apple ID.
On my own iPad (just to check out what settings/options were), i went to "Settings/iCloud: and tapped "Delete Acct".  BUT, then I got a message that all Photo Stream and documents stored in iCloud would be deleted from this iPad...   so, two questions...
is there ANY way for him to retrieve the documents he saved in MY iCloud account (there's 9.1g worth of HIS backup in my account!! ... i purchased extra space before i realized it was being eaten up by him and not mine).
Because he'd be logging  back in under his OWN ID which had never backed up his device before......so, he'll  lose everything, right?
Really need someone who KNOWS apple iOS/Cloud workings to answer this one please ... much (at least some, lol) of his data is work-related.... at 9gig, can't be all work!! must be a lot of movies, photo's and music i'd guess.  as this is a WORK-issued device, so be it if he has to re-load all that................

  • How do I delete the old user accounts from my Mac?

I have a few accounts in my name on my mac which are the accounts I had on previous hard drives before upgrading them. When I upgraded I used Time Machine and it always asked to set/create a new name and account.
My question is, how do I delete the old accounts?
Not sure if the accounts are taking up space but I am about to upgrade to a SSD and would like everything as tidy as possible.
    Thanks
    Phil

Delete them in the Accounts pane of System Preferences.

  • Cant restore after installing updates how do I change the home user/account

I installed 3 updates, opps, this morning, and when I restarted the computer it had reverted back to old setting from 2004. I purchased the computer from a friend, and had worked hard to remove his stuff, now my settings mail etc are gone and the old stuff is back. How do I restore the computer to what it was before the updates took it all off? also how do I change the home from his back to ours? sorry, I am new at this and very very frustrated with the mac so far.

Changing the home folder name caused the problems, not the updates. The problems won't show up until you restart, which, in your case, was just
    after the updates. See:
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107854>
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106824>
When you get a used computer, it is safest to erase the disk (with zeroing option), then reinstall OSX, update it, and get the latest versions of all the software you need. You should also run Extended Tests from the Apple Hardware Test disc to be sure there are no hardware problems.

  • How do I change the Apple ID account on an ipad?

I was given a first generation iPad by my son.  I managed to change the iTunes account and generate an Apple ID.  However, when going to the applications store or updating the installed software it still asks for his passwork.
How do I get the account for apps updates to use the correct account?

That goes back to what I said in my first response. Unless I am misunderstanding you, those are apps that your son bought with his Apple ID, and you cannot update them with your ID. You have to use his Apple ID and password to update those apps. They will not transfer to your ID. If you sign into your own ID, you should be able to download new apps with it. - Free or paid.
The iOS updates have nothing to do with the ID. If there was an update to the iOS, you would be able to update the iPad no matter which ID you are signed into. The pre installed apps cannot be updated individually. They are updated when the iOS is updated since they are in essence tied to the iOS. They cannot be deleted or re-installed.

When I go to post from camera I get asked to enter the password for Facebook but the account it shows is not mine and I can't find where to change it?

Can you just confirm how you usually interact with Facebook? Do you tap an App icon (this will be a white F on a blue background if official Facebook app) on your iPad? If so then this is the Facebook App and not the built-in Facebook iOS integration which is controlled in Settings->Facebook
