First, turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account on the phone. Then: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings.
Name it what you want & sync whatever you like to it.

If I understand how this works, you need to deauthorize the old Mac from your AppleID. Given that it is dead and gone, you will need to deauthorize all then reauthorize the new one. Try doing that and see if it picks up the iPhone afterwards.

I have a mac, it says all the software is up to date, however when i look at the details it does not state the latest one. So i visited the Itunes website to try and download it there, it goes through the process and says its done, however it does not change. Im assuming it is most likely a problem on my mac as i can sync my iphone on another friends non mac computer with no trouble at all.... can anyone suggest what to do?

One of the reasons to include your iTunes library with your computer's backup along with all other important data that is kept separate from your laptop - not carried in the same case, etc.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iDevice, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If you are in the US, you can do this now as well.

I have the same issue. I've already read the iPhone user guide which didn't help.
The user guide explains how to turn on Photo Sync in iTunes but no specifics of where the imported photos will be. I tried syncing a few times and I cannot find the photos on my PC.iTunes transferred all my PC photos *to* the phone, but not the other way around.
I'd imagine they should be in the folder that is specified in iTunes.
Any help would be appreciated!

Click on your iDevice on the sidebar of iTunes and then go to the info tab at the top. check the box shown here:
This will put the contacts from an iDevice to the computer. You can then check the same box on the (let's say iPad) that doens't have any contacts and they will go from your comp to your iPad.

The only way is to sync to iTunes on a computer and then sync from iTunes to the other device, using USB.
If you're thinking of using photo stream, that won't work now, since only photos taken AFTER each device was logged into photo stream will sync between them. All older photos must be synced via a computer.
The exception to this is if you use dropbox or some other service to act as the middleman.

I know exactly what you're going through. I may win the prize for having the most number of photos on my iPhone (2,397) that couldn't get downloaded. I have never been able to export photos from my iPhone to any of my Macs using iPhoto or Image Capture. (And yes, all OS and apps are the latest revisions). Nor have any of the popular apps like Picasa2, Adobe Photoshop Elements, or Windows native Camera & Scanner Wizard been able to do it on my Windows machines. It cost $20USD and works on Windows only. You may have better luck than I downloading all your photos.

You don't import photos from the iPhone to your computer using iTunes.

Note this only applies to photos taken with the iPhone. Any photos you previously added to your iPhone using iTunes should be copied from old computer to new computer.
