How do I sync Address Book on my iMac with iPad OS6

I have an iMac with Lion on it that will not take ML. How can I get my contacts to sync between the 2 machines or am I not able to ever do it? I do not understand how I can use iCloud for this or am I stuck with Google contacts until Apple takes that away?

If you're running 10.5.8 as your profile indicates, plug the phone in and look at the info tab for the phone in iTunes. Check the address book sync box.

Sync address book and calendar 8830 with 8130 via DM

I just changed from using an 8130 and now use an 8830. I assumed I could use DM to backup my 8130 and then restore it to my 8830. However, when I do this, many items do migrate, but not 2 of the most important ... my address book and calendar. Both are personal devices and are not linked with any work email server, so that's not the issue. I do notice that in the backup file from my 8130 the address book is called "Address Book - All" and similar with the calendar. However, with the 8830, it is labeled as only "Address Book". I'm wondering if this is the problem? I'm hoping someone can help me get my address book and calendar migrated to my new device.

BTW, I already tried wiping the new 8830 ... that did nothing.

How do I sync address book?

While in my Mail, I noticed that my address book is almost empty. This doesn't make sense as my Address Book application is quite full. I then see a notice to sync it with my desktop Address book. I follow the directions to open System Preferences - .Mac. It then reads: Enter your .Mac member name and password if they are not already displayed, and click Sync. Well, there is no option to "Sync." The only optionis "Sign Up." ?? As I am already signed up I don't know what else to do.

Never mind. I found out. Apple didn't bother to mention that the instructions were only for Tiger. Elsewhere, I found instructionsd for 10.3.9. (You have to use the iSync application, not system preferences).

In configuring new hard drive, find that Address Book 6.1.3 will not operate on the new updated software (no, I did not request updated software - it is what was provided with new hard drive). If you want to use your usb cable, you import them to your Mac as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. You transfer them from your Mac to your phone by selecting Sync Photos on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.

I live in Australia where there are good privacy laws protecting citizens. I do not want to be forced to use iCloud when the data sits in the USA with weaker privacy laws and also able to be seen by the US Government under the Patriot Act. Further I suspect Apple will interrogate my contacts and calendar for commercial purposes and I do not want that either.
I chose to synch my calendar and contacts with my iphone and ipad. I have relied for years on carrying around my phone with my diary on it. I can no longer do that.
Whoever made this decision at Apple has to be someone who knows little about the world. I can actually see EU regulators getting very annoyed by this.
I too woud like the itunes mac to iphone/ipad local backup given back.

My Address book syncs with Google and vice versa. How do i prompt Address Book to sync once i have updated items within it? i see it syncs here and there on its own accord? whats the prompt? what do i have to do? or why does it sync when it does?

. . .from my old address book. (10.4.11) I tried to import the ABBU file into CONTACTS (10.8.2 ) . The drop down warned that this would "replace" the existing contacts. That is what I wanted to do. Writing over the dozen addresses that I had copied from old emails was no big deal, but now those are gone and the address book is EMPTY. The new addresses are gone and the old addresses did not import.

Via Address Book on my iMac, I've managed to organize all my contacts into two folders on the cloud. I'd now like to sync them so that Address Book on my computer mirrors my contacts on the cloud.

If your Mac is running OS X 10.7.5 or higher, go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign in with your iCloud ID and check Contacts. If you don't have OS X 10.7.5 or higher you will have to update OS X in order to sync with iCloud.

Method 1:
Connect the iPad to the Mac.
Open iTunes (and wait until the Backup is finished).
Select the iPad in the left Sidebar (switch it on with alt-command-S).
Switch to the second Tab at the top named "info".
Check the Button Contacs.
Click "synchonize" down right.
After the Sync is done, the Adresses are on the iPad.
Method 2:
Activate the iCloud-Account in Macs System Prefs or in Address Book directly.
Activate the iCloud-Accouunt on the iPad and switch the Addresses-Slider to on.
After Some Minutes, the Adresses are copyed via the Cloud to Your iPad.

i'm having this issue too. it's a bit more complex though i think so i'll give the details:
a few days ago i added some people to my contacts using my phone. the thing they have in common is they're all new contacts.
they synced over to my macbook address book ok.
then a few days later i had to do a full restore of my iphone for various reasons (the new one, already!) which i did. when i then looked in my iphone contacts, these contacts were no longer there. they WERE however, still in my macbook address book.
so i figured i'd switch icloud syncing off for contacts and then resync to get them back on my phone. it didn't work. so i then turned off icloud sync and tried a good old manual sync via itunes, making sure to check the box for syncing contacts. it still didn't work.
now i'm at that odd place where the contacts are in my macbook address book but not in my phone and i can't seem to get them onto my phone (which is frustrating as ultimately they are phone numbers and in my phone is the best place for them!)
any ideas?

My mac runs leopard 10.5.8. Meanwhile iPhone is updated to 5.1. and synced with iCloud. As we know, OS X 10.5 can not be synced with iCloud. How to sync Address book with iphone? My Address Book on my mac has almost all contacts that can be found on my iPhone. Even with pictures from FB and extra info such as twitter accounts, etc.
The question is - how can I manage my contacts? Now I have added several new entries to my iPhone, but they won't appear on mac's address book. In iTunes the contacts sync box is unchecked due to the fact that iPhone syncs with iCloud. But then I'm wondering where did Address Book get all the contact updates that were made on iPhone?
I'd like to control this whole thing. And is there such thing as one data base, that could used by all devices and would change entries on all of them, if I change or add something on my iPhone?
Or I just have to get Lion and let the iCloud do the magic?

I just synced my new iPhone (iOS 5.0.1) with the Address Book on my Mac which runs 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.5.2. I launched iTunes and then I connected the iPhone to the Mac. It appeared on the DEVICES list in the left column in iTunes. I selected it and then the Summary screen appeared in the right part of the iTunes window.
In the Backup section of the Summary you can choose whether to 'Back up to iCloud' or 'Back up to this computer'. Even if you have 'Back up to iCloud' selected, there is a 'Sync' button in the bottom right hand corner of the iTUnes window where you can manually initiate a sync with the Mac.
