Let's say, I have an Iphone 3GS and it was synced to my older pc (I know...) and it crashed and I can't retrieve my files on there. I want everything that I have on my 3Gs: photos, videos, music, notes, voice recordings, etc... Now, I recently upgraded to 4Gs. I can sync almost everything via icloud but there are files like photos, videos, other music that I cannot sync or for some weird reason it won't work over the cloud. I have a 3GS IPhone and have not been able to find Cloud on it anywhere (I was instructed to go to Settings, General, etc). I have also been told I should download update from I Tunes and have not been successful doing that either. I know my I Pad has the Cloud and I am wanting to sync the calendar from the phone to the pad. Any suggestions?

If you want your contacts to remain in sync across iOS devices, then you can use any Exchange-type of account. For example, once you have a "clean" set of contacts with no duplicates, you could upload that into iCloud so that any change you make from your iPad would be reflected on your iPhone. You don't have to use iCloud for e-mail since your devices can pull a contact from iCloud for use with GMail or Yahoo.
But you can also set GMail up as an Exchange account if you don't want to use iCloud. The GMail account type in iOS is not Exchange, but you can set it up that way:

The benefit of doing this is (a) your Google contacts remain in sync across all your devices, and (b) your GMail will then support Push notification. Just one caveat, when you do this then the default behavior when you delete an e-mail is such that it is archived to your "All Mail" folder in GMail. The only way to change this behavior is to use your device's Safari to navigate to m.google.com/sync and change the setting on Google's server for each of your devices. This is a one-time thing, but important if you want trashed e-mails to really go to Trash.
As far as Contact Management Software options to clean things up, Google search is the only recommendation I have

I just need to know which way you are syncing. If using iCloud, you don't need to sync through iTunes.
In the info section of the device in iTunes, you have the Contacts checkbox selected, correct?
Why do you say only Outlook contacts? What happens with the contacts selected and you Sync?

It's a good idea to backup your Mac Address Book application and iCal Calendars application from each application. This way you can go back and pull out items if you lose something. I do this everyday.

I ran into this same issue this morning and from what I read within the Apple Communities, the only way to now sync is to use iCloud.
I set this up afterward and it seems to work.
Make sure you choose your calendar's under the iCloud secition of your calandar's.

Do you use iCloud? On both devices - Go to Settings>iCloud and turn on Contacts, calendars, reminders, and whatever you want to sync in those settings.

To transfer contacts you need to have your iCloud set up on both devices. Once you are signed in on both devices, do the following:
Home>Settings>iCloud>
Then, you make sure that the contacts slider is switched to on.
To do this on the Macbook, do this:
Go to the search icon and type in "icloud"
Click that icon and switch the contacts to ON

Do you still have your old phone? What kind of phone was/is the old one? If your old phone is an Android and you still have it turn it on. Hook up to WiFi, Go to your contacts and change them to google Contacts. Then go into your new phone and change it to Google Contacts as well.
Then when Google syncs all of your contacts back to your phone, kill the Verizon Cloud / Backup Assistant on your phone and back them up to the very simple and fast Google. Backup Assistant is not worth the time and effort to get things half right and is probably one of the worst apps I have ever seen.

I am trying to copy my contacts from my iPhone 4S onto my MacBook Pro. I am running Lion OS 10.7.4, and have tried to accomplish the transfer with both iCloud and iTunes, but neither has worked.
Any help gratefully received.

Check the website at iCloud.com. Are the contacts there. If so, then the contacts are syncing from the iPhone.
Uncheck contacts on the MacBook, then recheck the box and see if they appear.
In AB, go to the accounts page and make sure the iCloud account appears there.
If they are not at the website, then do the same to the iPhone.
Make sure both devices are logged in iCloud with the same Apple ID.
Also, if contacts are appearing at the website, choose delete from the devices when unchecking contacts or signing out of iCloud. They will appear on the devices when you sign back in.
If they are not at the website, be sure to select to keep the contacts local on the device so you don't lose them. They should sync to the website and other device when you sign back in.
If this doesn't help, are the contacts synced to the website, or just located on the iPhone.

The Apple store will do this for you or you can call Apple support and they will help you do it.

You need to be on the same apple id on both devices, and sync the contacts.
Or, save a back up on the iTunes from your iPhone 4, and then restore that back up on the iPhone 5C.
